A student tried to scam the Sicilian government for 180,000, by submitting 2,600 boarding passes, in some cases claiming to take three flights at once. Say what?!? Thanks to aeroTELEGRAPH for reporting this, and Klaus for flagging it.

It’s all fun and games until you get greedy. How he could think he wouldn’t get caught is astonishing. Reminds me of the Alaska Airlines / Amtrak scam from the early 2000s.

Idiot
Could've just made a couple hundred a week for years and would've been fine

It’s nice when scumbags are stupid enough to make their fraud so blatant and easily caught.

Student lol. Of what ? Maths haha. 10-30 flights a day. Duh. They likely monitored him a long time even though they knew it was a scam. Also checked with the airline who confirmed they never had any bookings.

Some people are just stupid at doing fraud.

A good example of pigs getting fat and hogs getting slaughtered.

I had not idea the European Union is made up of 27 countries and I don’t think all are on the same page. What a mess. Decisions are being made in France , Germany , and Austria upon their behalf that will affect their lives . I’m glad Trump is pointing this out. He is actually trying to help. Name all 27 nations of the EU without hesitation 3 2 1 go.

"recovered most of the funds" - Well sounds like he was 'smart' enough to save the money so he wouldn't get mired in debt after getting caught.

Are all 50 US states "on the same page"?

Well yes there is transparency. The US was established in 1776. When did the EU become a nation? 2000 ? What is the official language of the EU? Is the EU a country ? Are the countries a Union ? Or are they autonomous ? I’m bringing this up because this article mentions the currency Euros.

I tried Google but did not find anything. Which Alaska Airlines / Amtrak Scam are you talking about? What happened?

FFS, this is so stupid if you are being serious.

Please elaborate Dev. So the EU is perfect. There is no corruption. The little ones like Lithuania , Estonia , and Latvia get their equal fair share from large economies such as Germany ?

Yes, that is EXACTLY what they said.

If the best argument you have is to shove a whole bunch of words in someone's mouth you really don't have much of an argument, do you?

The Sicilian fraudster should be thrown in prison for life, or preferably just given the death penalty so humanity can be done with him. Surprising they processed thousands of claims to the same person before realizing it was a scam. Clearly they need to update their system or just stop subsidizing the flights.

Brainwashed by propaganda.

When a student uses fake boarding pass to receive €180k in subsidy to fly it's a scam

When the government doesn't build a bridge so the ferry and airport "cartel" can receive much much more than €180k by forcing the residents to fly or sail, it's a policy.

so you're encouraging people to do it by telling how not to get caught?

Don't forget to place blame on the government for enabling such a method wide open to being scammed with fake documents.

Now they will make it more difficult or raise the requirements for people who are honest about their intentions

The EU is NOT a nation. It is an economic bloc formed by a number of DIFFERENT nations.

Is the EU a country? No, its not. It's a group of like minded nations working together with common trading rules, each individual nation within it can and does make its own rules.

As a general rule of thumb:
Kingdoms are ruled by Kings, Principalities are ruled by Princes. Following this pattern, the USA is a cuntry.

Imagine thinking that’s the reason there’s not a bridge/tunnel….

The straight has some of the roughest currents, hits deep depths, and is in an extremely active seismic zone
