Norse Atlantic Airways Orders 15 Boeing 787s

"Norse Atlantic Airways is totally different — it just has the same management and the same airplanes." I get that this is sarcasm, but you do go on to say that the planes "used to" fly for Norwegian. I'm curious - when Norwegian folded/filed for bankruptcy/whatever legal process they did, did they have to relinquish or sell all of their aircraft? Does Norse have to "repurchase" everything, or did some inventory remain?

I have U.S. friends with $5,000 in flight credits from Norwegian Air's cancelled flights due to COVID-19 and no way to use them other than pay for a new flight to Europe first. Creating a new airline, I'm guessing, is a convenient way to not honor existing flight credits.

An "order" for planes generally suggests acquisition of new-build aircraft. Although still newsworthy, this is a lease of "available" ex-Norwegian Air Shuttle planes.

I’m sure picking up the leases for these aircraft is very cheap given all the long haul aircraft dumped in the past year.

The original Norwegian 787’s are ~8 years old now.

Are you suggesting they should have gone for planes a generation older? (A340?).

They should have to honor the Norwegian flight credits.

Can they be required as part of the restructuring to ensure that credits/vouchers will be honored, at least partially?

This airline is not related to Norwegian. Yes, some of the former investors are behind it but it’s a separate company. A bit like JetBlue vs Azul.

I was never tempted to book Norwegian long haul, and I’m not inclined to book Norse Atlantic either.

Never tempted to fly long haul using low cost airlines. Short hops within Europe okay (not Ryanair though), but prefer going business over the pond.
