Our boarding gate was close to the lounge, and as we had checked our bags we were in no particular rush. I also suspected we'd be at a remote stand, so we did a bit of shopping on our way in hopes of avoiding lengthy bus queues. We arrived at the gate about 25 minutes…

Nice article. Glad you had a good experience.

Always nice to see a non-credit card related post.

For paying with Laos Kip for the visa, if you have no other currency the security guards will let you go through the border to use a local atm. They are all outside of the airport. You get your money and then come back in to complete the formalities.

An important thing to note when paying for the visa- or anything in Laos in USD- is that the bills must be NEW! They won't accept older bills as they're impossible to exchange. You'll run into similar problems in Africa. But before getting the visa on arrival, make sure you've requested new bills from your bank in advance.

@ Mark @ Penny -- Hah, thanks! The first week of the month is always a bit hectic for me, so I think Ben is going to publish the rest of his Sri Lanka trip this week/before his next trip, and then we'll pick this up again once he finishes.

Thank you @tiffany for this review of a rarely reviewed airline.

Love following this trip and the visa information is especially helpful, @Tiffany.

Any reason you didn't get the evisa ahead of time?

I know it's stilly, but I'm always worried something will go wrong for visas issued at the border (I won't have the right money and they don't take credit cards, etc.) I just prefer the peace of mind of knowing it's done.

Oops - and now I realize that Laos doesn't offer evisas. Guess that answers that...
