How To Redeem Miles For China Airlines Business Class
As most OMAAT readers are aware, there’s currently a huge lack of transpacific award space, which is a combination of high demand and very low supply (due primarily to mainland Chinese carriers not having slots to operate most international flights).

Thank you for flagging! I'm supposed to do a trip to TPE later this year, I had just assumed I'd be spending $5-7k out of pocket with one of their (now three!) Taipei carriers.
Great.. cats out of the bag now. I guess its your job and livelihood to share this though.
This got me to China and back for the Canton Fair. Already booked for next year! I think EVA is better but no award availability 🙁
I booked flights for later this year via Virgin Atlantic, and the only thing that is a little concerning to me is that China Airlines website won't let you check your booking there (and yes I asked Virgin for the China Airlines booking reference). I managed to make it show in the CI app, so at least I could select seats there, but even there it's super limited (like you can't even add passenger passport details or anything like that). There is a ticket number so I assume it's fine but... the tech is def dubious and I hope all is actually booked properly.
Right. Oh well. I think next travel will.be back to normal as everyone blew their points this year.
Yeah it's weird my booking for this year I was able to use the PNR from Air France website to select seats online but now I just get an error message.
I can't even get seat selection to work in CI app...just an error message every time I click the pencil icon to be able to select. Seems like a rather large drawback with CI awards that is worth mentioning...little to no control or avenues for communication after you book.
you can use Qantas to book china airlines too (lax to tpe costs around 100k) . or using DL to book mex-lax-tpe / mex-sfo-tpe (90k only )
really regret missing the opportunity to burn Delta miles on this before. Delta is just being super unreasonable with the redemption rate now.
And Delta's website doesn't show connecting itins with China Airlines either forcing one to use a workaround. It's up to 285K now one-way in business to Taipei from the US/Canada? Extortionate.
I'm flying tomorrow on China Airlines tomorrow, booked a few weeks ago using Skymiles. It's within Asia, but I paid 25k miles in business for DPS-TPE-HKG (intentional 24hr TPE stopover). So just a note that there is value booking China Airlines with Delta within Asia!
i just looked and while yes these seats do exist on Flying Blue, it's really more like one day a month where you have 2 seats at a reasonable price. the other days are 3x or 4x the good prices. so unless you're going for like 40 days...
"Note that if you’re going to redeem Virgin Atlantic points on China Airlines, you’ll have to book by phone, so it’ll be a bit more time consuming."
Any tips on finding actual availability? I see it on DL at the points rate displayed on the screenshot in this article, but it's a no-go with VS. The agents I spoke with have no tips on how to search for it.
snagged J YVR - TPE Dec 28 for like 82k or something like that a month ago
Booked ICN - SFO for May of net year, but does anyone know how I can actually select my seat? I have the flying Blue record locator, but the CI website keeps rejecting it. Is calling CI the next step?
Anyone else seeing any CI availabilty on flying blue? I can't see any J class seats even months out.
