Nearly a year ago, Icelandair announced that it would finally add service to my home airport, which I’m excited about. This route is finally launching tomorrow, so I want to provide an update, as the carrier has actually extended the season for this route, compared to what was initially planned.

It’s only ‘exciting’ if you’re a glutton for punishment. Even SAGA class ain’t fun if it’s not lie-flat (recliner? Oof.) Only somewhat exaggerating here, but The Hague should try Icelandair for crimes against humanity due to their excessive rationing of water and other amenities on their long-haul flights. I’m sorry, but $10 for a mere thimble of hydration is an atrocity. You’re paying mainline prices for a ULCC. Masochists, unite!

And, Ben, sorry to be so harsh above; I recall that you’ve “long felt that Icelandair should introduce flat beds in business class,” and I couldn’t agree with you more. Simply put, Icelandair is being ‘cheap’ yet again, and those who want actual ‘premium’ service should seek alternatives. Like, at this point, it’d be better for you to fly up to JFK and take Delta’s ancient 763 D1 lie-flat to KEF.

Like for real, I am tired of 1990. Sure he seems to have industry insight but please go start your own blog.

Roberto, Ken, Eskimo, everyone: If you don't like what I (or anyone else) has to say on here, you do realize that you can engage others on-substance, or just simply ignore them, right? It seems you've forgotten.

“ Icelandair’s business model is largely about connecting North America and Europe via its conveniently located hub in Keflavik”

I don’t think this is true for Miami though right? Of course if the fare is right they can win passengers, but you’ll get a more more direct routing to most of Europe via MAD/LHR from MIA?

People willing to fly almost 8 hours overnight up front without a lie-flat seat are better people than I.

@1990 as long as you know who you are pay the others no mind. Comment sections like this are a great place for people to say things to one another they would never (at least until the past couple of years) say to your face…unless you’re wired to be as brutally honest as I am. LOL!

That’s very kind, Parker. I don’t mind at all. In fact, the more interaction the better, from my perspective. I’d rather have 10 ‘aliases’ whining over me than none. (Probably just one guy, like usual.)

I’m with you. @1990 polluted VFTW, now he’s here, “moderating” this blog. His incessant need to respond to every post, including his own, must fill a big hole in life. Most times he’s first to post, no life I guess. @1990 is infatuated with male genitalia, and those that use pseudonyms aka PENILE, and everyone that makes a lot of money. Hey it’s what we do, make $$$$$$$’s. 1990s posts get old very fast. And he has no inside knowledge or source. Mostly repeating what others with some credibility have posted.

@1990 FAT-FUK, yeah, I saw your childish garbage on Gary’s site.

Who wants to arrive in Miami at 10pm and then clear customs? Maybe they don't need more than 100 passengers because they're hauling a lot of freight. Fresh fish for Florida, electronics to Europe?

Aww, so you do care. Just for you, friend!

I only use ‘1990’ so if you’re blaming me for every comment you don’t like, that’s on you, not on me. *stub your toe* ‘ahh, 1990 at it again!’

I think the plane has to sit in Miami that long so that the crew can get their required rest. Since the flight is not daily, there isn't another crew arriving to cover the next night's return flight. So the same crew that worked the Miami inbound flight is the same crew that works the next outbound flight....after they rest.
