Business class on narrow body jets within Europe is known for being lackluster, generally just consisting of economy seats with blocked middles and improved service. A few months ago, a Lufthansa Group carrier announced it would install more comfortable seats in business class on narrow body aircraft. Ironically, it’s not a full service airline like…

I don't see how this is a real business class when it doesn't even come with dedicated catering, just a choice of some crap from BOB menu. It's just large chairs, nothing else.
Woah! It's almost as if some airline executives (or their underlings) actually read travel blogs, including my incessant comments that the existing 3-3 middle-blocked intra-Europe 'business' class hard-product 'blows' and should not be called that; even if they do these recliners, which are indeed an upgrade, they're really more of a 'premium economy' (true-J is lie-flat, IMO). Good on Eurowings, if they actually pull this off. I note they didn't include the seat-back, so I presume no IFE/AVOD (BYOD continues). Complimentary WiFi, please.
You keep mentioning the irony of a LCC introducing “real” J seats in intra Europe flights. If we turn the clock back a decade… JetBlue, also an LCC, was the first to introduce doors in J cabin!
It would make complete sense for medium-haul flights, as noted in your post. Adding more seat pitch to the 3/3 layout for intra-EU business would go a long way. I've had 10-12 such flights in the past 12 months, and the service has been mostly great (LHG); it's nice to have no one next to you, but legroom is always tight. None of my flights were over 2 hours, so it's not really an issue.
I would take this business class product over what I've experienced in the last three years from a few different Eueopean carriers in their "business class" on intra-European routes. The food is pathetic and the hard product is economy class with economy class legroom.
A proper business class seat between London and a couple of German cities is pretty cool.
Germany to Dubai is serviced by Qatar with a 787 wide body jet with full recline qatar business suites...eurowings is still lackluster, if they do this on 2-3h flights nice, but THIS is not noteworthy tbh..
Using an a320 to dubai from germany is already something where I say, thanks, no....
Looks very similar to Icelandair Saga business class seats sans the screen.
The fact that this is coming to EW is very telling about future plans to roll this out to further LHG airlines. I doubt they will be doing this massive rollout if they wouldn’t have plans to bring this to LH etc.
Having done more research into this, I realised this is just Eurowings redeploying the product from formerly planned Middle East routes that got cancelled/reduced because of war. So it's not actually any sort of a strategic decision, just an attempt to monetize planes they have no use for.
I think it is quite telling that EW - the "low cost" airline of the LH group - now has a better European business class product than LH itself.
Now LH will be introducing this to the mainline quite soon - let's say in a matter of 1 to 2 years as well. (That's when I woke up from sweet dreams - and had to think of the reality of new seats at LH)
Hopefully this will give other airlines with the typical 'EuroBusiness' seats, impetus to change and upgrade their business-class experience.
