Cool: GOL Launches Rio De Janeiro To New York A330 Flights As Of July 2026
I recently covered how Brazilian airline GOL has long haul expansion plans, as the company intends to take delivery of at least a handful of Airbus A330-900neos, complementing the carrier’s current all-Boeing 737 fleet. We knew that the long haul expansion would be happening at some point this year, but the first route has just…

the real story is that GIG has lost a considerable amount of air traffic. Gol remains the largest airline but the amount of international service at GIG compared to GRU or the amount of domestic GIG service is minimal.
GIG will be a far larger local market than any other Brazilian international gateway except for GRU. Campinas never made as much sense other than that Azul couldn't put an operation at GRU to compete with the massive international operation there.
I wouldn't be surprised if Gol gets its own 339s in service by the end of the year but it does hurt their brand to be operating a plane that may or may not have a product comparable to what G3 will ultimately have.
It is also notable that G3 is not starting w/ MIA which is the largest market to just about all of Latin America.
UA becomes less and less relevant as G3 expands into the US market. AA and DL do serve JFK-MIA at least part of the year but UA does not serve GIG from either Florida or NYC.
I flew on one of those Wamos A332s. It's worthwhile to mention that they have 3-3-3 layout in Y.
I flew Wamos on behalf of Latam in Business class and it was the worst business class flight of the year. The food was bad, and the flight attendants are not trained to provide good service. I also found the seats to be quite uncomfortable. Other airlines have this style seat on the 777, like Thai Airways, but on an A330 they’re not so great.
I just saw the Gol website, where it advertise the prices.
Over there they introduce the new business class which will be called Insignia by Gol. The pictures are the Recaro on the A339. The same that is built in the Azul / Tap 339. The headrest with a orange detail seems to be the only diffenrence, as far as I can see.
GIG lost considerable traffic because the city is a war zone and completely unsafe!
If you go to the bad places, yes. Just have to be smart where you go. If you go to New York are you touristing the slums? Probably not. Rio just had its best year yet of international visitors and it’s growing in popularity again. But unfortunately, the image that Rio and Brazil get from people outside the country (especially the US) is not the greatest so I understand your point.
The logic of Azul using VCP is not to get passengers from the city of São Paulo, but rather the huge catchment area for which it is more convenient than either GRU or CGH and to have a hub with room to grow without the competition of São Paulo´s airport.
The female FAs do their Sambas whilst serving the drinks , and the male FAs play their bongos .
Anyone able to confirm a booking? I can't finish the booking process. Tried multiple times "We're sorry but at least one of the flights or fares you chose is no longer available.".
Anybody grab one of these business class fares for 40K AA? I just got error messages for all the dates I tried, despite the AA website showing availability.
I wasn't able to book this, as few dates were available and the site kept erroring out. Sorry to miss this one.
It's phantom availability, no one is able to book these flights, not even AA EXP Line.
Flying blue asks a staggering 180k miles for business class... I don't know who determined such a ridiculously high price!
