I had emailed the hotel in advance to set up a car transfer to the hotel. A Mercedes transfer to the hotel cost 2,000THB (about $65USD) and took about 40 minutes. For what it's worth, a Toyota Camry transfer was offered for half as much. At the airport there was someone waiting with a Westin…

Great detailed review, as always. Thanks! I love all the pictures. This seems like a beautiful resort, especially at night. Too bad the beach is not that nice. Can't wait to read your Maldives review!

This is a genuine question (not me being annoying), but if the beach is bad, and there's (seemingly) not much to do...why would you go here? What drew you to this hotel/area?

To partially echo James,

What did you do?

Is this hotel close or convenient to town, or sights, or beaches?

Like you, I am much more of a pool person than beach person. The beach is nice to look at, especially at dusk, but that's about it for me.

By the way, I recently stayed at the LM Chiang Rai, which was a wonderful property (kudos to Gary's blog) and also has a Platinum happy hour. The drink menu was quite extensive, including champagne, and also lasted for 2 hours, vs the 1 hour here. A great property that I highly recommend.

I always envisioned Phuket as a gorgeous beach destination. If I would have booked this place, I would have been sorely disappointed. The placed looked okay for $112 night, but it certainly wasn't what I would have enjoyed.

@ James -- Relaxation. I've gone to plenty of hotels to lay around the pool, and this was one of those hotels. Sometimes it's just nice to have a change in scenery. I was trying out a couple of different hotels, so I didn't pick this one out all that carefull.

@ Mark -- The resort is maybe 15 minutes from Phuket Town, which frankly I don't find to be all that interesting. As far as beaches go, that's what I was going to Khao Lak for!

@ Carl -- Going there next year, so can't wait.

@ Easy Victor -- In fairness I had my expectations set reasonably in advance from reading FlyerTalk threads, so I wasn't expecting a nice beach. After all, the hotel has "bay" and not "beach" in the name, and I haven't been to all that many bays with nice beaches. But definitely agree, if you're just going to Phuket for the beach, this isn't the place to stay.

Thank you, Lucky for this review. We were considering this resort as we had received rates for less than $100US. With our upgrades, I thought this would be great. Your review proved my decision wise. We are staying in a small boutique overlooking Patong that is designed in Thai style. I am sure that this will give us enough of a "taste" of Thai beach resorts.
