Review: St. Regis Deer Valley (Park City, Utah)

It's a fair comparison, but Aspen is a WAY nicer town with much more to do/way more fun. I do love that DV is still only skiing, but neither DV nor PC is the most exciting skiing. The towns, while growing substantially over the past ~15 years, are definitely not the most exciting.

Great write up on the hotel. While the suite was huge and clean, I thought it looked extremely generic/bland. I guess you're paying for reliability, though...

This is obviously a great option if using points, but the Montage and Stein are considerably nicer.

Have only rented condos at DV, but it’s the only place I’ve skied in the past decade, the In Doubt kids are very spoiled. When they go elsewhere, all I hear about is the lines.

As for the town, my party days are in the rear view mirror, and the kids are just starting!

The furnishing of the room is so weird. It's like they threw whatever piece of furniture they found in there, with zero consistency or thought for design - and most of it is also pretty depressing, it just reminds me of those hotels targeted at business travelers. Definitely not inspired to stay there!

I stayed at the hotel at the same time as you did and I was in 620 (five award nights from 3/30 to 4/4). We met once at the elevator lobby but I didn't recognize you because everyone was in mask at that time o(╥﹏╥)o. Really wanted to say hi and thank you for being my best teacher in award traveling.

Those rooms do not look luxurious.

Stayed once - never again. The funicular is a wasted opportunity - no one greets you, no one takes bags, you get to leave your car in a public open air mall parking lot, and lug your belongings across two floors to get into the thing and then down another two floors to get to reception!!! The rooms are hideously dated and the service even for COVID is non existent. It’s an embarrassment for a chain hotel at best.

The Montage is much, much, much better.

The rooms have no character whatsoever. I'm surprised you speak so highly of it. But it's typical of many U.S. ski resort properties. This is exactly why Europe for skiing, though generally not as good from the slope perspective, offers a much better experience overall. Even the W in Verbier has far more character than this.

Almost stayed there (at St. Regis Deer Valley) but ended up staying at Hotel Park City in late 2019. However, we drove to St. Regis to ride the funicular and have dinner at RIME, which was memorable. Ordered the scallop entree, which featured four humongous scallops (each about an inch thick and 2.5" in diameter), the largest I've had the pleasure of eating.

I absolutely love living in Utah. The mountains are stunning and the rest of Utah offers an incredibly varied experience. You can go from the posh of Deer Valley to remote alpine hikes. And to be so close to SLC is amazing.

I lived in Denver once and was surprised that so many flew to DEN and then drove for hours to get to the ski resorts. You might as well go to Steamboat with travel like that

I'll say that the snow last winter was awful. Our current drought is terrible and if this winter is like the last we'll have a very lean water summer next year. But it's hard not to like 70 degree days.

The TSA Mask guidelines apply to all transportation - planes, buses, trains… so it sounds like they are applying that to their funicular. It makes sense, it’s on rails.

The furniture looks dated with weird colors. Paying $800/night for this? Nah.

That hotel room just looks like a generic model apartment that was decorated to be as bland and neutral as possible. Definitely don't get any sense of luxury from that. Wouldn't be surprised to see a 4 star aparthotel decorated like this, but definitely not acceptable as a 5 star property, especially one that charges so much.

I just stayed there in July for a meeting. Have been to Deer Valley every year for the last 8 years for skiing at least two trips each season. 1st time staying at the St. Regis. Very disappointing. The rooms aren’t anything special. No mini fridge in the room just for your own food or drinks. The pool area was filthy. Clearly they were understaffed with dirty cups, plates and other debris being left around the pool for hours. Even the pool furniture is tired and needs to be replaced. My price was about 1/4 the normal price during ski season. There is no way this property is worth the premium they charge during that time.

Yes the location is ideal and it’s ski in and ski out but there are better properties that charge a little less or a little more that I would rather stay at. I do plan on staying at the Aspen property this next ski season and I have been told it’s a much nicer property.

Another negative is the bistro bar. If you sit too close to the bar either on the bar side or the bistro side, all you can swell is that dirty mop bucket/sour smell which tells me not enough is done to keep it clean.

Utah law uses a Calibrated Dispensing System for alcohol. You can only receive 1.5 ounces per drink making a martini very thin.

How were you aware of the specific "butler" amenities for suite guests? Just checked out of a suite at St. Regis Rome and was not informed of any specific benefits like pressing clothes or packing/unpacking services... nor when I've stayed at other St. Regis properties in past.

On the plus side, I've enjoyed the champagne sabering at St. Regis Deer Valley a few times, gorgeous setting!

My executive apartment serviced by Marriott is more stylishly and lavishly appointed than the room displayed here. The entire place reminds me more of a poacher's den than a stylish and luxurious ski resort. I don't think this resort can compete with the ski resorts in Japan or around the Italian-Swiss border and the French Alps.

i have not stayed at either of these St. Regis properties, so I appreciate the review and comparison. I have stayed a few times at the Westin Riverfront in Avon Colorado, which I think is a great property. I think would love to get your perspective when comparing all three.

80,000 points/night for that room? North worth it in my opinion.
Even the gym looks better.

Room decor gaudy but food looks so good.
