I had heard that the Sheraton Edinburgh was among the nicest Sheratons out there, so was really excited for our stay. Revenue rates over New Years were extremely high, as the cheapest flexible rate was 301GPB (~$500USD) per night. The Sheraton Edinburgh is a Category 5 SPG property, making it 12,000-16,000 points per night.

Excellent, we are planning a trip to Scotland and EDI is one of the stops. Was wondering about this hotel, and looks just fine.
Looks like a nice hotel (great view from the Castel Room!) but why a need for a temp lounge? What do they do for SPG Plat members/club-level rooms at other times of the year?
@ Ivan Y -- There is an actual club lounge on the 7th floor which is usually where breakfast and evening cocktails are served. The temporary lounge was just so they have a bigger space.
Thank you! I find lounges useful to avoid mini-bar charges for beverages even if they don't have good food spreads.

I will never understand how people can be so pushy for an upgrade, which really just is a complimentary benefit in my opinion...
I stayed there 10 years ago or so... it was the single hardest bed I have ever slept on... glad to see they have updated them...overall the hotel looks fresher now than when I stayed there.
Going back to EDI in September wasn't planning on staying at the Sheraton, but now maybe I will.
How are your plans to re-visit Edinburgh coming along? Airport is continually expanding, and you can transit to Doha with Qatar so it's a good stopover en-route!
Also new(ish) upgrade to the Caledonian hotel to become a Waldorf Astoria. Edinburgh is on the up!!
