I stayed there and thought it was fantastic - room and having multiple restaurants to choose was excellent - my room was quiet and beautiful - I do hope it’ll reopen - ps - golf was 1 mile from it -

The other big hotel news of the week is the Boca Raton Resort is leaving Hilton/Waldorf and the flagship Loews property, Hotel 1000 in Seattle is leaving Loews and joining Hilton's LXR collection.

I’m shocked by your experience at Solaz - we had an incredible stay here in March 2020. In fact, we preferred it to the WA. No timeshare push, no noise issues that I can remember. This is a very strange story all around.

We stayed in one of the large pool suites in late 2019. Great stay, and no time share pitch. Maybe they started pushing that more recently? Regardless, I hope it reopens and stays within bonvoy because it was a great value for point redemptions.

We have a reservation there starting July 19 and no word from them! Now that we are a week out the prices of other hotels are drastically more expensive but we are looking at Zadun as a back up. Any thoughts on that one?

Stayed in both last year. Solaz and Zadun.
Zadun much nicer, more luxurious.
At Solaz the rooms in the big building are very loud, as you can clearly hear the cars from the street.
Rooms near the beach are more quiet.
We had a problem with noisy neighbors, which were clearly hearable due to the connection door, that our room had to their room.

This is unfortunate as I had a stay booked in late Q3 using my certs from my MBB SUB. Hopefully we'll get more answers soon so I can plan around this.

Funny enough I was just looking at the hotel last night on Marriott's website to evaluate if there's any suites and if I might get upgraded or should I use SNA's to increase my chances and then I saw all the symptoms mentioned above in the article.

I will say there are reviews from early July on the hotel's landing page hosted by Marriott, so I'll likely watch reviews to see if any info arises there. I also reached out to the hotel's e-mail to see if my reservation is still confirmed.

This statement may not be popular here, but I consider timeshares to be a huge scam. For what you pay, you get a (tiny) fractional share of the use of a unit in a resort property. You really don't own anything, but you not only have payments (unless you paid the total up front) but you have maintenance fees assessed to you in perpetuity. That said, this feeling about the timeshare business also informs my opinions of those who peddle these ripoffs. Such as the owner of Solaz Los Cabos. Nor would it surprise me in the least if you got a high pressure sales presentation when you tried to check in because that's what timeshare peddlers have to do. If anyone actually gave the concept any thought, they'd take their money and run like hell.

Lastly, if the place is closing, what of the timeshares - and their owners? There must be a better explanation of some sort.

I just got back from here in June! Used 2 50k certificates and SNA’s and got an awesome pool suite near the beach and pool. Preferred it to WA Pedregal as well. A shame if it’s closing.

Those credit cards aren't going to sell themselves. If you look at the most recent posts, 7 out of 12 are for credit card offers (counting Rakuten). With a large portion of the world back open again, you'd think that the travel reviews would be back, but they seem to be few and far between.

Just phoned Marriott for more info - July 9 they closed and evacuated - no other information available at this time.

We just dropped a sizable down payment on a club membership here two weeks ago. Things were great as of two weeks ago... 🙁

We're currently staying at the JW Marriott in Los Cabos. I overhead a guest checking in at the front desk that had been sent from Sola due to the AC being broken. Who knows if that is true, but that seems to be what they are telling incoming guests. For what it's worth the JW has been fantastic and you're right, exceptional service all around in Cabo. We had a taxi driver thank us for making the efforts to visit, he said they really need the tourists right now to keep traveling here.

We've stayed there a couple of times and really love it. We've stayed in the suites so there isn't any of the street noise mentioned. Found it to be a pretty stunning property with great service. Only issue we didn't like was the attempt to get us to a time share pitch upon check in the 1st time. However, we declined and they left us alone. Never had it brought up again to include a second trip. In fact, we were there 3 weeks ago and it was pretty busy with guests. Have also stayed at JW Marriott and didn't care for it much at all. Hilton Los Cabos at that lower price point is far superior option in the area.

Interesting to hear you didn't like it and look forward to your full review. I just stayed at this property at the end of June 2021 and thought it was fantastic for a relaxing getaway from the States. Actually in my top 3 Marriott stays. I might be a little biased though because I stayed on a severely discounted healthcare rate. I agree it shouldn't command a $800 rack rate but would return on points.

As A Titanium, they offered full breakfast buffet and the spread was fantastic. Tried to use a SNA to upgrade to a 1 bedroom suite but hotel was sold out (website confirmed that too).

The landscape reminded me of Miraval Tucson but with the benefit of infinity pools overlooking the ocean. My only complaint was the onsite restaurants- very average. Deserts where actually the highlight of the meals. Minor issue though as the Cabo area offers tons offsite dining options.

Interesting to hear people liked this better than Pedegral because I almost went that route. Also, they where selling $2000 7 night packages in a 1 bedroom suite with a $300 food and beverage credit I almost bit at. Reading this now, I'm glad I didn't.

Great property with stunning views from the pool area. They also provide full breakfast to elites unlike the JW Marriott Los Cabos. The regular rooms are on the small side though with very little storage space.

Also just spoke with a Marriott CS agent, and they purported the same thing and they also mentioned the evacuation was due to CV-19. Not sure if that's true, but assuming it is maybe they had an outbreak at the hotel specifically? I still need to do more research but it doesn't appear that any other major hotels are closed in the area as others in the comment section have even mentioned being at JW Marriott currently, and Hyatt, Hilton branded hotels don't appear to have any booking restrictions.

Was just in Los Cabos over the July 4th weekend, and rates are super high at all high end resorts at the moment, as Americans are vaccinated and want to travel. Was seriously considering the Solaz, but wound up at Chileno Bay through AMEX FHR. I would say best property I've stayed at in Los Cabos was the Montage - not really a points property, but definitely an aspirational experience. Just be prepared for some sticker shock when dining (and for other services) at the property.

Timeshares are a phenomenal investment. Even if you hate the idea you can't argue that the room cost is way way way cheaper in comparison to inflation. I have yet to meet someone who owns a timeshare who USES it who doesnt love it.

I am a timeshare owner and have been disappointed in the lack of activities and pricey $18.00 drinks. I was floored that a three year old resort had already remodeled the spa. I have not used it as I can go into Cabo and get a massage at Mango Deck for $45 and not $395. The spa is $45 but it would have cost me $150 with two young adults. $5 each for a guacamole demo. That was the only entertainment that week. It was not like that at HDM. I hope that we will still be able to stay there and use our weeks. We always stayed below as we do use the hot tubs and the towers had a bathtub. Not as presented. We found that guests at the pool on the Marriott side were treated so much better. They were given free waters, hor doevres, and popsicles. No more timeshares, no more scams, no more Cabo!

I just had a stay at the solaz last month with fourth night free booked with ford. Over all the hotel facilities seemed nice and staff at the restaurants and around the pools were great. the time share push I have heard about previously but didn't realize it was going to be that hard. I mistakenly forgot to tell my wife about the timeshare, and when we went to "tour" the art gallery she signed us up for an early am presentation thinking it was ok to not show up. We got called 8:30am and asked if we were still going, and after that they pushed us hard to reschedule. That definitely left a bad taste in my mouth seeing as even with the 4th night free, we were averaging $600/nt. even though I'm just a gold member booking though virtuoso, I felt the elite benefits were lacking. no room upgrades while they are supposed to be operating at 50% capacity during covid. But seeing as alot of people complained about higher floor rooms having road noises, that ground floor room might have been blessing.

This is surprising news! We stayed 2 nights at the Solaz about a week ago, June 30th-July 1st, 2021, and enjoyed our stay. We booked a room at Solaz while we were staying at the JW Marriot in San Jose Cabo. The atmosphere at the JW was sort of dismal, strange and oddly depressing. The Griffin club felt like a rip-off, with very limited bar and minimal service, not worth the money. The only bright spot at the JW Marriott was dinner at Cafe Des Artistes. The food was really good, but the outdoor seating with a beautiful view of the ocean is overlooking the rowdy adult pool. Our dinner wasn’t the relaxing dining experience we wanted or expected.
Anyway, we are so happy we switched hotels, we truly enjoyed our 2-night stay at Solaz. We had a nice quiet room, the hotel is beautiful, the staff was lovely, the food and the drinks were great. We did experience the brief and slightly awkward timeshare pitch in the museum at check-in, but I will take that any day over staying at the JW Marriott in San Jose del Cabo.
We completed our weeklong Cabo trip with 4 nights at the One and Only Palmilla; which was very expensive, beautiful, amazing, and luxurious in every way.

Marriott's explanation doesn't quite make sense. Why would the website be taken down if it was just an (presumably temporary) evacuation?

An S&P index fund is a phenomenal investment, no hassle, no strict rules, no taxes, no issue if you ever want to sell, no fees, no maintenence, no upkeep. Haha i kid but yes if you use it to the fullest a timeshare can make sense. That said i wont travel or stay at any property where there is a 1% chance of a forced timeshare pitch. Just wont do it too many other properties in areas like this where timeshares/ condo purchases arent a thing.

Stayed here as a Platinum about ~6 months into COVID madness. I read tons of reviews on the property, so I knew what I wanted (1 bedroom suite w/plunge pool, full ocean view), and also what I didn't want (timeshare spiel on arrival). Some pre-trip legwork saw our standard room upgraded to the exact suite I wanted (must've been like a 6-category upgrade). And not a peep about timeshares on arrival. I had booked a combination of award nights + paid nights. IIRC, our paid nights were about $700 + tax. This was for the cheap seats (sleeps). The suite we stayed in was going for $2000/night on Marriott.

Stayed a full week. Hotel was packed to the gills (sold out) on either weekend. Mid-week was lively, but not full.

Best things about the hotel: architecture, beachfront pools, room (all stunning). Artisan (aka butler) went above and beyond for us. Literally anything we wanted. Gf was trying to procure aloe for a burn, and our assistant (sounds less pretentious than artisan/butler?) literally had someone cut aloe leaves from the landscaping and bring them to our suite. We tipped him well at the end.

Breakfast was good for the first portion of the trip, and then it's like they forgot how to run their ship (food + service fell apart). All other dining experiences were forgettable. The Italian spot is actually memorable, only because it was so awful.

All of the staff we encountered were just beyond friendly. The guys at the pool were awesome. Always had the best chairs blocked off for us.

This property had (has?) SO much potential. Overhaul the F&B situation (+ fix the weak a*s drinks), and I wouldn't give a second thought about staying anywhere else in Cabo. Was honestly planning to return in spite of the lackluster food scene. The place is just so zen.

I was one of the guests who arrived yesterday to the hotel to be told it was closed. After planning dreaming of this “trip of a lifetime” for a year, we were shocked to arrive to the news that it was closing. Apparently it is due to structural failures. The Situation is obviously unchangeable, so I’m not complaining about WHAT happened, but I am appalled and complaining about HOW it happened.

Service recovery was absolutely atrocious. Sometimes the difference between a $300 and a $1000 hotel doesn’t warrant the price difference but you book the more expensive hotel because it comes with the presumed promise that they will handle anything that goes wrong appropriately. Not the case this time.

Their handling was nothing short of terrible - essentially told we were being sent from an $800 a night property to a $300 a night property in a much worse location with zero clarification on what we would be charged or refunded in the end. Staff discussed how sudden this happened and that they were loosing their jobs and they were clearly more focused on that and came across as almost defensive when I was more than understanding but begging for answers as to how this would be handled. The staff were not given proper information or tools to handle all of us appropriately - a sign of poor management.

I didn’t know if it was just me, but I have meet four other parties at the replacement hotel who all felt exactly the same. Everyone being told something different. Solaz told me I had to pay my own way at the replacement hotel (outrageous!). I was told when I arrived here that Solaz was covering it. Patiently Waiting for some kind of confirmation in writing before I put negative energy out there and go on TripAdvisor or any other forum (other than here) to discuss how horribly and inappropriately this was handled.

I’ve stayed at Solaz at least 5 times, my latest being in March and we had a week booked next February. We absolutely love it there. As I type this I’m in the Vidanta Property in Nuevo Vallarta and I’m so missing the luxury and customer service of Solaz. We received an email today stating that the property has closed effective immediately until further notice. We booked thru Third Home so they’re offering a full refund or another option. I’m so sad. Hopefully Solaz will be back again soon.

Have a friend staying here now and heard all the great things about it this past weekend + amazing pics texted to me.

Fast forward to this afternoon and was asked by a mutual friend, "did you hear about xxxx getting a knock on the door at hotel today,, being told there were structural issues, that all staff was let go, that resort was closing and to get out of room ASAP?"

And then this popped up on feed a few hours later. My info is secondhand bit matches.

We have a reservation there this weekend. We called the concierge for dinner reservations last Saturday and they said, we have some bad news. Someone in reservations will be calling you.

Outside of that we couldn't get an answer beyond closing for 'infrastructure' updates

I was staying at this hotel this week. Yesterday at 3pm they called our room and said we needed to evacuate immeadately. They stated Marriott discovered critical structural issues. But on Saturday I was at the pool and overheard residence owners discussing upcoming cosmetic renovations including a new lobby and pool chairs. It was the most bizarre thing I’ve ever experienced at a hotel

We had a reservation for this month and we just received a letter from the resort that they are cancelling our reservation with no offer to reimburse us for our airfare.

Tried calling the number they provide in the letter which seems to be a non-working number.

Please keep us posted, please!

We and a few friends are in Cabo right now and were planning on staying at Solaz later this week. We happened to be at the Zadun, another property under Marriott, when we found out through a friend trying to book at Solaz that the hotel was shutting down immediately. I received a brief email telling me we would be rebooked at a sister property and would ‘find out upon arrival’. Our other friends still haven’t even received a notification on the closure, and we were meant to stay there in a day! A few employees of the Solaz were moved over to the Zadun, but no one really knew what was going on - just that some employees were moved to other properties and sadly it sounds like many were laid off. They heard the property would be closed ‘for a year’. When we called Bonvoy to try to figure out what was going on, they had no clue and as of today our reservation in their system is still at Solaz. The structural theory seems to be everyone’s best guess right now.

Does anyone have a contact at Marriott by chance? I had put down a significant deposit for a room block & event in September at Solaz. Honestly, they were very difficult and slow to work with and nothing was transparent. I'm not anticipating an easy time getting my money back.

According to the Solaz website:
The hotel is currently closed to address immediate and unanticipated infrastructure needs. Guests are being contacted directly to assist with rebooking existing reservations.

Strange but not unexpected given the collapse in FL.

We are a share holder at Solaz and received an email today, July 12th, that they closed due to construction/renovations. In the email they are offering stays for the rest of 2021 and 2022 at their sister resort down the street which is run down and old. No thanks!

I finally got through to someone at the front desk to ask about length of closure for timeshare villas & hotel properties and they gave me absolutely no timeline for the reopening and it sounded like they were beating around the bush as to what’s going on with property.

The interesting thing is that we became friends with a Solaz employee through social media, when we were staying at property over Memorial Day 2021, and we reached out to him today asking what happened and he said they closed due to financial reasons.

We just purchased this time share in the fall of 2020. The large deposit they took needs to be addressed because this closure seems to be more than construction related. Looks like I’ll be making some more calls tomorrow! Definitely disappointed.

I just left a time share )using a friends “investment” in Mexico - I’ve never worked so hard to enjoy myself before. The happiest moment of the trip was kicking back dirt at their property going north to the US. Even if it was Marriott, as a lifetime titanium member twice over now, not a chance I’d try it - timeshares have never benefited a consumer and are too big to shut down by government.

There was one good show though - Marriott Vacation Condo in Orlando. It met our very specific travel need for that trip with young kids, and was a great point redemption to get beds (real one, not fold out), kitchen and in room laundry for 6. Sales nagged me a lot, we checked in after sales was closed, they told me my $500 welcome package would be there in the morning by the ambassadors desk. The next day I unplugged phones and when I went to the shop I only paid i cash or card, never a room charge. Never got a pitch, and since a Welcome gift is usually worth $5, I didn’t believe at all that there was a real value lost.

I don't understand how "they wouldn't take no for an answer". I get that they might have been pushy and refusing to accept a verbal no but unless they were holding you prisoner, you could just walk away at a certain point and say you are late for a phonecall you have to make?

Were you just being too polite to do that or am I missing something?

Isn't it general knowledge that timeshares are a scam? Just because the Marriott name is behind it, doesn't mean it isn't a scam. You pay thousands of dollars for maybe a week a year at a resort you didn't choose because the actual one you want to stay in is sold out years in advance

We spent 11 days here at the end of 2019 and loved it. Fantastic breakfast, excellent staff, and the wading pool on our suite was something we enjoyed daily. The beach and pools were fantastic. I'm Titanium, and we were never pressured for any time-share presentations. Hope they get it together again!

Mexican timeshares are mostly (if not all) RTU (Right To Use) - meaning you don't own diddley squat. In the US (and other places) you typically have a deeded week. The RTU's are typically 10-year contracts, so once you buy, after 10 years, if you don't renew, you're "out". (vs. deeded weeks you keep paying every year, or default, or sell/give away if there's no loan).

Having stayed at Hacienda del Mar, while it's nice, it's no "luxury" resort like Solaz is.

Curious as to where Marriott will be rebooking customers with upcoming reservations. There is not an equal level Marriott property in the area. Zadun is a much nicer/expensive property, and the JW is certainly inferior to Solaz

Exactly. You pay thousands for the right to stay there one week per year. So, you have forced yourself to pay for an expensive vacation (with the timeshare owner) every year - in perpetuity. And, when they need to do any work on the building - you pay a share of the cost via mandatory maintenance fees. All for a "property" that you don't really own.

Phenomenal investment? What's next? Telling me that a payday loan is a phenomenal financing instument?

We are members at Solaz, bought while still under construction, and have been extremely satisfied with the resort and service. This announcement was a complete surprise, so I called one of the Sales Directors and can share the following (unverified) information. The resort is being shut down for construction of the additional three towers on the other side of the resort, and Marriott did not want to have guests on site during construction, so combined with the still-current 30% Covid capacity restriction they elected to shut down now and start the towers along with other renovations on the existing main building (small hot tubs being replaced with the larger size which requires reinforcing the balconies). As noted, this may be what was passed on to the employees and the real reasons are different. Even if true, the offer to members is not even close to being acceptable given the differences between Del Mar and Solaz.

Well imagine saving up for a year for the trip of a lifetime and splurging for a hotel, taking time off work and flying all day to arrive and be told that the hotel is closed and they are doing nothing to accommodate you other than booking you at an inferior hotel - correct, you are being relocated to an inferior hotel and it’s on your dime. People who are spending $800 a night at a hotel could have booked the $300 a night hotel if they wanted in the first place. So the appropriate measure is to rebook them at a comparable or a nicer/more expensive hotel and pay the difference. This wasn’t like a bunch of folks were in town for a conference and being relocated from a Hyatt to a Hilton across the street. Two totally different caliber hotels - and it would be one thing if solaz refunds everyone and covers their stay at the replacement property, but that’s certainly not what they communicated to anyone. I’m waiting to see how this is handled before going ballistic on any review site. But in all cases, as calm as I acted at the time (because it’s not the staff’s fault), I am sure you’d be equally “dramatically” upset in our shoes. Easy to point fingers when you weren’t the one dropping nearly a grand a night for the trip of a lifetime

We were supposes to check in on the 12th and found out on the 11th from a frantic phone call from an employee that we didn't have our reservation. So mishandled. We had good flights found other arrangements and came to another property. I love cabo and that is why we are "owner" at Solaz. Unfortunately we rolled our week forward from 2020 and had another week at Thanksgiving this year. We got an email this morning with the alternatives. Basically waiving 2022 fee or going to Hacienda Del Mar. Hacienda Del Mar is okay but very dated. It is all sad really. In hindsight I was probably heisted for the purchase money years back from the construction phase and it most likely is gone. My primary worry now is this is financial related and this will fall to some new owners of the property (it is two nice so they won't just tear it down unless it is really structurally a mess) and the new owners don't recognize the previous owners or make them pay more. Oh well....lesson learned and now I have a response when the timeshare people try to corner me all over the world.

We are in Cabo now and we’re supposed to stay here. Many of the local people are saying there was a major covid outbreak with staff and guests. Seems like a lie considering all the other. Who knows. We may never know.

Hi Robbi so I also am a member and we missed out using the property in 2020 due to COVID. We paid the Maintenance which was over 2k and they said for an additional $100 they would let us use 2020 week in 2021 so that meant we would of had two weeks to use. We got the Email yesterday and Scooting us all over to Hacienda del mar is not right! I’m a timeshare owner over there as well and the reason for buying into the Solaz was because I thought it was a much nicer a property. We all need to get reimbursed for the yearly maintenance expenses or they need to put us all up at an equally nice hotel. We were going to book for this August but wow what a surprise.

We are at the sister resort, Hacienda Del Mar, and are owners at Solaz as well. Just got a email regarding the closing as of yesterday. We were charter owners that bought Solaz in 2016 (pre construction) and had construction delays similar to the " infrastructure" verbiage of today. The members options are no way acceptable or of real value based on what we have paid for Presidential Suite at Solaz.
Looks like a member revolution in the making...Feel very sorry for the workers losses as well as potential blow back from members.

We had a atrocious stay there in May.

Food poisoning, bad service, poor covid measures, staff were overall bad. The sales pitch was nothing close of harassment (lasted 3 hours not 90 minutes). They even had actors paid to clap whenever a new guest arrived to pretend they had just sold another timeshare.

I won’t even mention that the guide told me my points reservation was me staying for free so I couldn’t complain and that the hotel guests weren’t important to them, what mattered was the timeshares.

I won’t miss this property one bit and can only say I’m happy to see good ka

Worth noting that Marriott isn’t behind these timeshares. They belong (according to my slimy salesman) to a rich tomato farmer family from Mexico. Supposedly Solaz has a 25 year management contract with Marriott.

Worth remembering that the company behind Solaz also had timeshares as the Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar. Once Solaz opened they unbranded the Sheraton, transfered all the cooks and and management to Solaz. Those who have timeshares at what was the Sheraton are left with a very different experience now.

Hi there, we ran into others from the solaz who were moved to the JW Marriott. Some were forced to pay the difference for an additional room and not placed in comparable accommodations to what they had at the solaz. I’ve heard the jw Marriott and they are sending people to the Fairfield inn which I would not at stay at. The jw Marriott does not compare experience or price wise to the solaz. I would contact Marriott for either a full refund and try to find another property in Cabo.

I just sent you an email about the steps we are taking to cancel and get a refund for our timeshare. We purchased in fall of 2020 and only used one week in May 2021 that they gave us for “free.” Please check your email. Let’s keep in touch!

This will certainly hurt the entire timeshare industry as the news blows out. We found this resort incredible, stunningly beautiful, and we purchased a 25 year membership upon our 2nd stay. We feel like billionaires when we stay here... it is a true gem of architecture and design, virtually unparalleled and on par with a select few top resorts in Cabo. I heard no "noise" while perusing the entire site; there are ample restaurants and show me a pool as awesome and luxe as Solaz. The museum was a great touch and worth another visit.

However this closure is simply unacceptable. We paid many thousands as a downpayment and have not even taken advantage of our purchase. I encourage any well-reputed Mexican law firm to reach out to me personally if a class action should develop... or not. I quit paying my monthly payments until this works out.

Surely there must be some fair and equitable resolution for US and other foreign citizens... for if not, and if the Government of Mexico does not promptly act in the interest of buyers, this will heavily damage the entire Mexican timeshare industry.

IDK where these idiots get off thinking points stays are free. Points are a currency, we earn or buy them. Staying on points is just a different way of paying for your stay.

We just received our email about the closure last night. We are one of the original purchaser's while still under construction and are now thinking of cancelling our contract as well. We only bought a 10 year plan and have only used the property twice. Natalle Corbin interested in what you have done so far other then just "walking away"?

We love the resort because of its uniqueness and away from the marina hustle and bustle BUT...on our first stay I had money stolen out of my purse that was in in a drawer under clothes - no resolution on their end because I did not use the safe - we've been going to Cabo for almost 20 years and have NEVER had a theft issue.

Just to be well informed Marriott doesn"t sell anytimeshare there; The luxury collection is part of the Portfolio of the 30 brands of Marriott ( Hotel Divison) the timeshare is managed and operated by Mexican Family that own the Hacienda del Mar Resort and they been selling their own timeshare for years there and when they build Solaz they hotel operator is Luxury Collection now part of Marriott Corp.

Who knows what the final decision to close Solaz was truly based on? Could be COVID ... could be "infrastructure" issues ... could be unable to stay cash positive with capacity limits ... could be construction ... could be all of the above.

This now on Trip Advisor: "This property has indicated that they are taking safety precautions against COVID-19 and is temporarily closed until 07/10/2022." Meanwhile the Marriott web site shows both Solaz and The Residences at Solaz as "sold out".

Regardless, the owners have done a really really bad job of dealing with things thus far. The e-mail to owners left too many questions to the imagination. The "eviction" of guests had to be awful for those displaced with 30 minutes notice. And how brutal must it have been for an employee to finish a shift one day, come back to work the next day only to be told they no longer have a job?

The phone number listed in the e-mail is likely a line at a call center that handles inquiries for both Solaz and Hacienda Del Mar. It is undoubtedly overloaded right now and understandably so -- sorta like trying to get through on the one phone number for tickets to see a big concert back in the day.

I spoke with an agent at Concord Servicing Corporation (the firm that handles contract payments for Solaz) this morning to advise I would be withholding further payments on my contract (thankfully I opted against full payment upfront). The agent noted my account accordingly and said Concord had been advised that owners would be sending a letter by US Mail that details the Solaz closing on July 14 (as in tomorrow). The agent did not have a copy of the letter and knew nothing of what it might put forward. It could be nothing more than the letter embodied in the e-mail that went out last night.

Let's all hope for the best as this moves forward.

Where do I start. My friend and I are timeshare owners under this property. We paid a pretty penny to be members and we were promised many amenities. When we received a letter that our reservation was canceled nine days prior to our arrival date we were just in shock. They informed us via email that we could stay at their sister Hotel hacienda del Mar in a standard room. Our contract states if we decide to stay at the Hacienda , we would get a presidential suite for two weeks. Well, they denied us of the specific room according to the contract. Not only did they cancel our reservation, they did not offer a reimbursement for our first class airline tickets nor any explanation. We only received a sincere apology. It is not right nor fair to treat their members like this.

I have attempted to reach out via telephone and email without any luck. Some of the email addresses are not valid making it difficult for members to contact anyone to discuss transferring our reservation over to the sister hotel.

With all that said, we did not want to take the chance and wait until we actually connected with a live person so we had to purchase another hotel room outside this time Cher says having to pay more money and staying at a standard hotel.

When we received the letter, they indicated new rooms would be built along with expanding the resort. I think there’s more to it. I would like to see the report of structural damage.

Please keep us posted on any news.

I totally understand that Jordan however I’ve been trying to call, email defined out the emails are not valid or someone is on vacation. When I try to call it refers me to contact the reservation office via email. Our letter did indicate that they would be transferring us over to assist a hotel, which is not true as we haven’t heard any word or able to contact anyone.

Hello,

I believe it’s due to financial issues and not structural issues. I too am a shareholder. We had reservations for July 24. No thank you to the rundown sister Hotel! We had to pay out of pocket for another location to stay and we will be visiting the sister Hotel to get some answers while we’re down there. We will be investigating what is going on and get down to the truth.

Hi Bill. Did you get any kind of push back from Concord or any indication of what the ramifications of discontinuing your payments would be? We are in the same boat, and I'm not inclined to continue sending monthly payments. I'm very concerned about the deposit(s) (a few, because we upgraded along the way) that we've made and how we'll be able to recover those. Thanks for any info and all the best to you.

I am so bummed about Solaz and hope they re-emerge, but am not confident about the process given the structural issues they appear to be battling. I am NOT interested in a timeshare at Hacienda del Mar...that's why I chose Solaz.

After residing in Cabo for close to ten years…
We found the unbridled construction of huge hotels a major distraction…most were built quickly on coastal sand. Also interdicting local limited water supply from residential developments, for concrete walls and foundations…make what you will of that historical perspective….

Westin Lagumar in Cancuun is nice-not on Solaz level but was a great resort. If you are going for quiet upscale Grand Solamar at El Rancho was nice. Far from Cabo but was a great resort. I own at Solaz-they are not providing the aervice we paid for —Solaz should be giving us rooms at HDM AND waiving the 2022 maintenance-since emails ate just forwarded-phone number per phone provider is not working-and call center at HDM just lets the phone ring for hours..I feel all Solaz owners should refuse to pay their maintenance fees due in January 2022-regardless of if the Solaz owner is able to book a room at Hacienda Del Mar..which btw is not Sheraton affiliated as of November,2020.

This report is all lies, the hotel is amazing and i have 8 weeks of timeshare at solaz. They are not scammers that have been in cabo for more then 20 years and are owners of many large national businesses. I’m not being paid for any comments or information. Super outfit don’t fret over your time share. They are closing to remodel and better the hotel. Email me if you need info as a satisfied customer!!!!!

I feel for the Timeshare owners and guest that were looking forward to a stay in Cabo but the upside is the Brand is taking their issues seriously. Marriott should keep paying all their employees that no longer have a job. Brand can afford it!!! Pray for all, let’s all stay safe.

I am also an owner and did not yet receive an email but am scheduled to stay there this fall for the first time under our timeshare. I have heard many rumors -- one being that they needed to finish towers on site and couldn't have people staying there to finish (highly doubtful given the immediate shut down and the size of the property) and the latest that they were caught at being overcapacity (per COVID rules) and instead of paying the large fine, shut down instead. It sounds like it's all a mess and given our VERY large despoit we made earlier this year on a 25 year timeshare, I am very disapointed in this news and the lack of communication.

Interested to see how this will end. Being a founder member I had chance to see the place under construction and took photos of the work in progress. My speciality is tile and stone and I observed all the stone going on the ceilings to be incorrect. N o membrane was added to the cement board and the resin back stone was being installed with thin set which is a bond breaker. I'm wondering if pieces have already fallen down , hopefully they can have the builder fix the issues and open to protect peoples investment.

How can you think they are an amazing hotel when they did not give any warning to owners or employees of a long term shut down. It is sketchy and at the very least inhumane to shut down and disconnect all phone lines with no information. Every employee lost their job with absolutely no warning and owners have hundreds of thousands of dollars in their time share. In addition they were still trying to sell timeshares when I was there last week. If there was a shut down for remodeling they should have been transparent.

We bought in August 2019. Paid up front, only used it once. Solaz “closed permanently” states Google, if we don’t accept the downgraded offer to Del Mar can we exit our timeshare contract? I read Mexico’s timeshares are typically not deeded, simply “right-to-use” agreements. If Solaz defaults, can we rescind the contract and get a partial refund? Never do timeshare again!

The big scam here is the people who buy the timeshares. If you stay at Solaz Luxury collection, managed by Marriott, but buy the time share. they put you in the buildings on the left facing the ocean which are far inferrior compared to the Luxury collection buildings as far as art, amenities, etc. Sure you have the same grounds to use, but the actual rooms are completely different.

We bought a 2-bedroom pre-construction and, although we were irritated by the 2-year delay, have enjoyed our time there after it finally opened (except spa which is a super ugly ripoff). Beach is stunning, and we experience serenity when we’re there. Staff efficient and very nice.
I hope they get the situation, whatever it is, worked out.

I called concord yesterday to see how they were handling payments and they had no information. They said they just found out. I tried the number in the email and got a fast busy and then disconnect every time I called.

November was our trip to Solaz. We bought into the “fabulous timeshare” with a substantial down payment. Our 1st payment is due next month, August. We have not been notified of any issues thus far. I actually stumbled across the article while searching the internet for a random item. Very shocked and obviously concerned. There has to be something that can be done. This is unacceptable to say the least.

We are relatively new owners...bought in February 2020 (just before the pandemic shutdown) with eyes wide open. Our first chance to return to Solaz as "owners" was this past June. With great anticipation we arrived to find the Signature Suites side more or less boarded up. You had to arrive in the parking garage and then take a golf cart to reception. Before handing us our suite key, the receptionist stated that we were required to attend a breakfast to hear about "exciting new opportunities" at the resort. I explained that we were owners and therefore certainly did not plan to attend a breakfast. This became a significant standoff until they reluctantly handed us the key and said we would not receive the "owner benefits" of food discounts, etc. That clearly aggravated the situation. I spoke to several owners at the pool and most reluctantly attended the breakfast to get the discounts (significant) and some even purchased more "upgrades". How sad they must feel now. When I read the email announcement and "options" I rejected all. In a display of arrogance, the options were presented as benefits to the Solaz owners...hardly. I responded with the statement that the only option we would accept was a refund of our purchase price. I am hoping to hear from other owners (USERS in the Agreement).

Thanks we bought (paid in full) 1 red week Master Suite January 2020. Paid maintenance January 2021 planned to use Solaz in November. We were owners at Hacienda del Mar for 20 years.

Email sent too is announcing this issue included number to callthat did not work.

Sent email today after talking to sometime on the number listed for the hotel. Waiting for reply.

Choosing 1 option is very problematic for us!

I too own at Solaz. In fact, I still owe for the second week I bought in March and am concerned that I will be pouring good money after bad into this resort. I heard from the Sales team but it was pretty much the corporate stance to temper any misgivings you might have. So far, I have heard so little that adds up to a reasonably logical explanation...the truth only hurts if it ought to! There may be legal ramifications to being more transparent but the silence is only going to lead to rampant speculations. I hope they think about their future (if there is one) as the reputation of this resort is "on the line" to current and potential owners at this property. SOLAZ ownership...talk to us!

Except for initial form letter, we have not been contacted by Solaz or it’s property management company. We have 2 weeks confirmed and paid for Nov1 - 15. Our guests have made plane reservations, as have we, and we need answers. We are owners and would like our deposit returned so we can make other vacation plans. Just found out that Hacienda is completely booked for November 2021.

I got married at Solaz in oct.2019. Absolutely love the place. I transferred Hacienda Del Mar 2 week penthouse in 2017, anticipating the opening. I believe I still owe $17,000 on upgrade. Concord servicing has no information on the closing. But I am still obligated to pay my monthly balance till paid off. Even though I may never use solaz again, until they reopen (maybe). I was already at the top level for stay at HDM. So they want me to keep paying for a more inferior quaility resort, that I couldn't upgrade any higher then I was.

I paid for a 10 year Time Share plan, my first visit was this coming Oct, now they're offering Hacienda Del Mar but can not give us any dates, I stayed at Hacienda Del Mar last year, this is an Old Hotel nothing like Solaz. They say my investment is 100% safe, they should fine a hotel equal to Solaz and pay for our reservation, that's the right thing to do.

Hi Robbie, I will email you directly. I am also an owner and love the resort.. Previously owned at Hacienda Del Mar since 2006 and traded up for Solaz during pre-construction. I had a great experience with these developers and was a key factor in trading up to Solaz. The immediate closing is concerning. I have already emailed and stated the compensation package is inadequate. I have not used 2021 yet. No response from Solaz.
It is a beautiful Resort and I hope that this situation is rectified soon.

Hi cindy, can you please keep me updated on whatever communication you received from the resort. I bought back in April and absolutely love the place. I bought one week for 10 years and was actually planning on buying an additional week it is one of the most beautiful resorts I never been to. I did reach out to my sales person and told him that what they were offering was inadequate. I told him I felt like I should at least get my dues paid for as well as a one-year extension and the free week that I was offered in a three-bedroom villa for nine days. He responded saying that would not be an issue and that they were also going to offer all current owners a 30% discount on the new property once it opens. But I’m not taking that at face value as I’m sure he is not the decision maker. I have not responded to the original email excepting any of the choices they offered
Thanks

Everything was booked for a Thanksgiving 2021 including airfare. Now, we received an email that they closed the resort. We tried to contact the facility for rebooking as was told through the email. They couldn't accommodate us because Hacienda Del Mar is closed. We are a party of 5 and no available hotel rooms. We were instructed that they will transfer points to RCI and we have to book ourselves. Called RCI and no available rooms for a party of 5.

What's ironic is that the resort refuses to do the legwork to find us a hotel. We have to do it ourselves. We asked what our options are to cancel our contract altogether. We were told to respond to the email, so they can forward it to sales. We paid cash for a 10-year timeshare including 3 years of maintenance fees so far. We've used only once in 2020. Membership started in 2019.

Hi Robbi,

I would definitely be interested in knowing what your plans are. We are also 2 week timeshare holders. I think this is truly ridiculous! I have never heard of anything like this before. We were owners at Hacienda Del Mar originally, and changed to Solaz. We did love the property, but part of that love, was that they were Marriott partners as well. My husband and I are speculating that the owner had a parting of the ways with Marriott, because Hacienda Del Mar is no longer a Marriott property.

We bought two weeks in December 2020 and were booked July10 but informed by email the resort was closed. We finally managed to talk with the front desk rep and she said everyone had been fired and there were no accommodations at the Hacienda Del Mar available. We have sent many emails asking for our money back with no response. We paid in full and never used the facility - classic scam. American Express tried to help but was unsuccessful.

Our good faith purchase to buy the 2 week/25 year timeshare and paid for in full on December 14, 2020 has never been used and Solaz will not respond to our multiple emails asking to return our money. They cancelled our reservations 3 days before our scheduled arrival and did not assist in re-booking another property. I asked about the Hacienda Del Mar and the said it was not available for our vacation week. They have breached the contract and apparently have no plans to resolve our complaint. American Express has attempted to help but we’re told yesterday our claim for re-payment was denied by Solaz. Unbelievably poor customer outreach - apparently they do not plan to honor the contract we entered into with them. Legal remedies are limited in a foreign country. Hope others have better success with communications and results than I have had so far.

Solaz is a Marriott managed property and it’s owners have very deep pockets so rest easy, Solaz is not going anywhere. Just to make all of you feel a little better, those same owners are developing the St Regis Cabo which will be built over on the Pacific side and the Current Solaz GM, who oversaw the development of Solaz, will be overseeing the development of their new property.

We have had family and friends stay with us at Solaz at least 3 times since they opened. It has always been delightful and I have NEVER heard the noises coming from the road that the writer heard. I’m supposing the sound was magnified for the listeners benefit. We were owners of Hacienda del sol for years before transferring ownership to solaz. Yes, it is an older time share but not inferior in any way. Our problem with it is it was so busy it was hard to find seats near one of the many pools unless you staked them out early in the am. Has a very Mexican vibe that is beautiful to be around.
Solaz owners can still take advantage of the third home option that lets them trade their week for locations around the world so Hacienda Del Mar is not the only option here.
The problem here is it is difficult to take advantage of these options because of the ongoing worldwide pandemic. This is not the fault of the builders. Time shares are not for everyone but it is nice to return yearly to a place where the staff remembers you from year to year and they strive to make your visit as comfortable as possible. People who like a certain level of comfort and like to keep coming to the same place for that enjoyment is what sells the time shares. I agree though that all time shares are pushy about selling. That is their job though so you have to be firm and grit through it. The rest of your week is bliss.
I have my own theory about the infrastructure issues and I’m guessing all the roof plantings have something to do with it.

I purchased a time share at Solaz in November of 2019. Paid all
up front costs at the time and even paid my 2020 maintenance fee.
I never got to stay at Solaz....they cancelled my reservation and then
told me there were no more vacancies from September to December
2021. Then I am told it is closing.....maybe for good. I tried to talk by
phone to administration official and was told I could only email them.
I have asked for a full refund of all my money and was told I would be
hearing from them in about 30 days. I have no idea what will happen.

Would love to be included with your group regarding anything on Solaz.
We too visited for one week and upgraded to two weeks after tons of pressure and drinks they serve you. Of course have not been able to use for two weeks. Any information on getting contract revoked and money back would be appreciated. We have also been unhappy with all the extras they promise and come to find out, it is all misleading.....
Seems to me contacting Marriott Corporate as a group and threatening to blast social media could help get action.
We were also “furious” when we checked out for our one and only week there, that they charged us a daily resort fee as an owner! Outrageous!
Wii Fii, work out facility etc.... were already part of our “extras” for purchasing. This seems very Illegal and wrong! Would love others input on this. I will be shocked if there is not a class action suit of owners especially if this goes beyond one year.

New owner who purchased the 2 weeks/25 years back in Feb 2020. Paid everything upfront even including the 2020 maintenance fee. We were planning our wedding this year at Solaz in September & had to cancel everything last minute. At this point, we prefer to cancel our membership as it's not certain how long this remodeling process is going to take.

I've been trying to get out of this Timeshare contract and they won't let me even though I can't use this property. They are ruining our credit on purpose. This place is the worst of the worst and we are currently suing them for breech of contract. They are dragging out the process to try to outlast our efforts. Consolidated their servicing company has a daily late fee of $12 dollars a day. It you want to combine resources I will join you if you want out of your contract. Maybe a class action effort will wake these scoundrel's up.

Yes, all above is true!. I was scheduled to arrive in August 2021 and I received email stating they were closing. My trip was literally in a week. They offered everyone to stay at their sister resort the Hacienda Del Mar. When I called to make a reservation the phone number would not go through. After several (days) attempt, I finally got through with no availability. Needless to say my trip was cancelled. They did waive our maintenance but we are still paying monthly on something that we are not able to gain access. And yes, this occurred right after the Miami collapse.

I, too just purchased a time share at Solaz and was thinking of trying to cancel our contract. I tried calling them only for the phone to ring and ring. I got on their site only to see that it was closed. My husband reached out to the guy who pushed the time share on us via IM. He was very short with my husband only saying that he lost his job and that it will be closed 1-2 yrs. I was adamant when they started their pitch that we were interested. After being fed and some very strong drinks I found myself and my husband signing the contract. I am also interested in joining a class action suit and want to continue being a part of this feed. Any update that anyone has would be great! We need to band together. Financial times are hard enough as it is and throwing away money monthly truly hurts!!

COUNT ME IN ON GETTING OUT! I would love to cancel my contract with Solaz. I purchased in 2018. When Solaz closed I tried to book a room at Hacienda Del Mar and was told there were no rooms available. I tried changing my dates with 4 different dates of arrival and they "were full with no vacancies". So frustrated.

We were suckered into this timeshare in 2017 and it was a nightmare for us to get out of thier contact but we did. When we heard it closed we were not surprised. It took us 5 years and $28,000 dollars to escape their tentacles. My advice never invest in a timeshare.

We got out of thier contact but we had to get an attorney to contact them and request in writing for them to do that. After several months later they did as we told Marriott that we were prepared to issue a cease and desist order. Marriott had never received any information that we were timeshare owners there. Scary scams.

I’m curious about litigation against the property and it’s owners. As you stated there was substantial upfront fees plus high end payments not to even have my stay. How can they charge for a specific service and not be held liable? If I didn’t pay every month I would have problems even if it was only a glitch on my credit. Thousands of dollars with no acceptable remedy? Is a class action suit a possible option?

It seems that not many people know the truth about the sudden closure of Solaz. The hotel has structural damage from the beginning. It was a very bad construction done by Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos who also did the construction. This is not the first time SMA buildings have structural issues just search for “Artz Pedregal”, a luxury mall in Mexico City. How I know that… I’m an architect and I know a few bunch of people who sadly worked in that construction.

My best friend and I bought a timeshare there. We weren't looking to buy AT ALL but since we had nothing to lose we got them down to a fraction of what their "list price" was and knocked off 5 years of the total ownership time. We were each able to write a check that was only a couple of month's mortgage (at least here in the Bay Area). They'd spent WAY too much time with us and weren't going to let us leave without getting SOMETHING. When we did the math it would be more expensive to come back every year and stay at the resort we had been at. Add in the fact that we had a full kitchen and hit Costco on the way in, we saved an extra who knows how much in food and especially acohol. 😀

Susan I would like to know how to cancel as well! Just got a bill for 4,411.74-saying past due amount while they were closed. Maintenance fee for two years. Ugh

My husband and I contacted the Contracts Department at Solaz. The email address is [email protected]. They were initially very helpful—sent us a cancellation agreement to sign, etc.—but we’re still waiting for our refund. We were told repeatedly that we’d get the refund within 60 days of requesting it. Now more than 200 days have passed and we still don’t have it. We recently engaged the services of a lawyer in Mexico to assist. Not clear at all whether this is going to help or if we’ll end up having to shell out a lot of $ to the lawyer to get our refund. Extremely frustrating!

lol….an HOA president and a GM that have formed a law firm in the HOA office of Cabo Bello and they use HOA funds to run the law firm. Stay away from these guys. They are con artists! And this is probably the HOA president Alan Stoner Theirs posting on this chat soliciting. Beware!
