Lufthansa Outsourcing A350-900s, Retiring A340-600s, Grounding 747-400s
Lufthansa has just announced a series of capacity and fleet measures, in light of current circumstances. This is due to a combination of high oil prices and major labor issues at Lufthansa, which are leaving the carrier in a tough spot.

If this is a Lufthansa decision I just assume it will blow up in their faces
Yikes. What a bad birthday... "in light of current circumstances"... *throws hands up* Maybe, quickly address the labor issues in good-faith, then handle the oil issues, instead of giving up.
I am really sad that Lufthansa is going to be the last passenger 747 operator, because the airline is truly a clusterfuck
Naw ... best to "give up" and quit .
Maybe start over with new business plan , new people , and new on-board food .
Just stop it all , give up , and maybe start afresh .
They cannot fix stupid .
Trump is right about Germany and England. They are once great countries getting destroyed by socialism. The strikes show the levels of entitlement.
It's laughable that the LH group has still been flying the A343, A346, and B744 on commercial passenger services at all, when every other airline of note ditched them years ago. It's another proud triumph for the executive management team at Luftcaca.
Might be rethinking the plans further with announcements today that Europe has only 6 weeks of aviation fuel available.
"in light of current circumstances" sounds a lot better than inept management both can't make peace with their employees, are trying to screw over many of those employees, are also screwing over passengers, and still make less money than other full service subsidiaries.
Maybe, just maybe Lufthansa could try bargaining with labor in good faith for once and they might get some concessions in return. As you've noted more than once, AF went from employees almost rioting at the sight of their CEO to excellent relations. That's not a mistake, just a mindset that's alien to Spohr.
If Lufthansa was truly trying to make things worse they would be secretive about where all those planes going away are doing now.
Wondering about their fuel guzzling A 380's, especially the route MUC to DEN, which they re-introduced in December '25 due to high demand. But that was before the hot mess we now find ourselves in, on multiple levels.
Looks like the 9 additional A350s going to Discover might explain why the 747-400s are still on track to be retired by the end of 2027, but they didn’t say the same for the A340-300
I wonder what they’ll do with those of us- like me- with a booking in CityLine as part of a longer itinerary…. Seems somewhat reckless after so many cancellations and displaced passengers it would seem. At the moment my flight shows as cancelled in ‘flight status’ but still active in my booking. I’m guessing office staff will strike next with the exponential increase in work.. what a mighty fiasco.
Why is the Cunt in Chief still in his position? Are there any brain cells left in Lufthansa’s Board?
Last year I was on LH award flight 747-400, J-class. The cabin was in a such a bad state, plastic and material were peeling off the seats and compartments, things were chipped, parts were falling off... The crew was visibly embarrassed and I heard them apologising to some passengers.
On the positive side, FAs AND the pilot tried to compensate this with what was probably the best treatment/service I have ever had in over 30 years experience with Lufthansa.
In parallel to Trump's war, subsequently now there seems to be a war at lh. Let's see how it goes.
Ben, I don’t care what you or anyone else tells me, regarding the 747 at BOS photo, gate E10 will always be E7B to me lol.
