While IHG One Rewards is the loyalty program for InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), there’s separately the InterContinental Ambassador program. IHG occasionally had a bonus for purchasing Ambassador, which helped offset the cost. With the IHG Premier card, or CSR $75K spend earning Diamond, I see little reason to pay for this these days, unless you really want the 'weekend night' and consider it a break-even.
@ Ben -- Benefits are identical regardless of whether you are staying on points or paying cash. That was changed about 10 years ago. Note that you also receive 15,000 points when renewing an IC Ambassador membership.
Annual spend of $12,000 MIGHT result in your Royal Ambassador membership being renewed if you are a long-term customer, but $12,000 spend will NOT get you invited. Based on 2025 statistics, you likely need about $23,000 to be invited, same as Marriott Ambassador.
I’ve always wondered why IHG doesn't get more love for the sheer value it offers, especially for a modest $99 annual fee. My wife and I run a 'Two-Player Mode' with both the personal and business cards, and the returns have been incredible.
By stacking Diamond Elite (from the cards) with Ambassador status, our upgrade success rate at InterContinental properties has been 100%. We recently used two free night certs at the InterContinental Chicago and were upgraded to a massive, two-bath Grand King Suite—easily 900 sq. ft. Throw in the free breakfast buffet and drink coupons, and the value is unbeatable. We’re also lucky to have the stunning new InterContinental Indianapolis right in our backyard for easy staycations.
I suspect IHG might not get the same 'mainstream' recognition simply because the commissions aren't as lucrative for some travel sites as other chains/cards.
I've tried over 20 different dates and IC Hotels - none have weekend cerificate availability. Now seems like a big scam, so I've got no benefit for having joined after 3 months.
@John It works better outside of the United States. Had been able to redeem at properties that were non-U.S.
Agree availability is good in Asia and Oceania.

Historically. IHG simply has not recognized my status, whethere ambassador, or platinum. They were the most stingy of any brand to me with upgrades or granting any sort of late checkout. I like the benefits I get from Marriott much better.
If you purchased membership in the past, you were awarded 15k points, That went away 2 years ago.
Because you were lucky on you few nights per year stay doesn't make it a good program.
Do you know that you don't get guarantee upgrades on free nights.
The weekend nights are capacity controlled and slightly more expensive.
The only real benefit for me is the 4pm checkout.
They don't get recognition because it's an inferior program and is quite worthless unless you hit Diamond.

Not a fan. Earning more status with IHG does not grant you much more in terms of benefits. The certificate is also difficult to use and you have to pay for the other night. It also cannot be used at all properties. It would be better if they did certificates like Marriott where they set a certain point value and let you redeem it and even add a certain number of points to it. That is quite easy to use in theory although in practice the actual value has lowered, but that is a different topic.
