I never realized there was such a lag between you visiting te place and you writing a trip report
Man, that green shag carpet in the bedroom looks like something straight out of the 60s.

What an incredible breakfast spread, awesome even by Asian standards, by the looks of your photos.
Lucky, seems like happy hour is for Gold members too. Do you know if breakfast buffet is offered to Gold members at this property?
Have you stayed at the W Hong Kong? The service there can still be a bit pretentious but otherwise it looks fairly similar to this property -- great suites and good treatment of Platinums, excellent overall facility and decor, full-size Bliss toiletries, superb breakfast buffet. Like many other parts of Starwood, the Asia Ws seem to do things better.
@ rom -- Nope, unfortunately the breakfast buffet is for Platinum members only.
@ Bgriff -- I haven't, though it's one W I'd like to try -- next time, hopefully!
Am I the only one who finds it funny when hotel rooms have a guest bathroom? It's a hotel. Aren't they all "guest" bathrooms?!
Lucky, great report as always. I have been reading your blog for quite some time and wanted to say that you have one of the most detailed, useful, and entertaining sites out there. Btw, am curious and would love to read a review of the places you ate outside of the hotel as Taipei is known for their delicious local cuisine. Keep up the good work!

The hotel looks great, the suite fabulous, without being as quirky as some W's.
And that breakfast spreadis awesome.
I have to echo Bgriff's comments about the W Hong Kong. While I have not yet had the opportunity to stay at the W Taipei, the Hong Kong location is (to date) my favorite W in the system. The staff there really get to know their regulars, and the suite upgrades are pretty amazing.
I've probably stayed at the HK property at least 8 times or so, and can't sing its praises enough. Will definitely give the Taipei one a shot too based on your trip report.
Also, the buffet spread looks similarly indulgent as the HK one. I do love breakfasts in Asian hotels. They really do very nice spreads... 🙂
I visited right before you (Aug 5-7), and I took a standard room. Overwhelming but I would take Koh Samui's W over the Taipei room. (We took a connecting room in Koh Samui.)
