Review: Hyatt Place Frankfurt Airport (FRA)

I stayed there one night (less than 10h) in Spring 2023.
I also walked from the airport & back. But I’m a New-Yorker, used to walking around.

There was a huge consumer goods trade show taking place during your stay in Frankfurt, hence the outrageous pricing.

Excellent use of points. Very nice place.

Move that hotel a few miles down the street and I'd stay there a week. Looks really nice.

As a frequent overnighter at FRA you aced the decision process. You cant overvalue the walk to the gate ability as compared to worrying about a shuttle which might exist and might be full. Alternatively, as you mentioned, a longer stay might be more pleasant in Frankfurt.
The plans for the new station of the airport Skyrail will only improve the calculation.

Surprised to hear this, as I was also staying in Gateway Gardens at the same time and my hotel felt eerily empty.

Stayed here last year and you can't beat the price. It's a great use of Hyatt points and literally was over 50% savings vs the 4 hotels physically at FRA airport. I didn't mind hopping on Subway for ride to airport.

I’m guessing the crew at breakfast is from the land of the rising sun?

Of the three "cheapest" options (HGI, Sheraton, HP), which would you say is the best for a family of 3 (2 adults, 2 year old) on a very short overnight layover? None of them seem to allow booking three directly into the base room on points.

I appreciate your detailed pics of the breakfast spread- but was a bit confused by the sign for Asian curry. Was there Asian food somewhere on the breakfast buffet or was that just a sign for lunch or dinner? As a vegetarian who likes spicy food that got me a little excited.

I have a stay coming up in May and was trying to decide between the Hyatt Place and Holiday Inn, both around same price in points. Don't really want to go into town, just want a place to crash, have a morning run and a decent breakfast before going back the next morning.

OMG, where the heck did you go - did Google Maps show you that and did you set it to pedestrian? There is actually a very safe pedestrian walkway from Terminal 2 to the Hyatt: Exit Terminal 2 at ground level, walk to the street crossing, go straight through the large tunnel, walk to the next set of traffic lights and turn right onto Thea-Rasche-Straße, walk down this street to the end and then turn left. It looks like you went straight through the next set of traffic lights after the tunnel, as cars would go via the highway to get there faster. Also: if you want to use the subway, you just have to take the Skytrain to Terminal 1, as the subways leave directly from the lower level of Terminal 1, not from the Squaire. Perhaps you can revise this for your readers.

I've stayed here and I have stayed at the airport properties as well. Sometimes the airport property prices are a bit out of line. When I stayed here it was quite nice. Took the train there no issues. No idea what the concern with the rain is. Every morning they have cabs lined up out front waiting to take people for the short and inexpensive ride to the airport. Really couldn't be easier. No need to worry about walking if you don't want to. Yea its nicer staying at a property connected to the airport, but this property is more than adequate for a quick overnight.

Reminds me of the Hyatt Place at ZRH airport. At least new Hyatt Places are consistent. Although the breakfast offering is MUCH better than anything offered in the US.

I have stayed at this Hyatt Place probably four or five times over the last three years. It is almost always a great value either paying cash or with points. That said, I am shocked that you find this to be the best HP you've stayed at. I recently stayed at an old Amerisuites conversion near Universal Studios Florida (it was totally renovated last year, but still) and that was worlds nicer. You got a full suite (one king or two doubles AND a sofa bed), loads of storage space, mini fridge and microwave and free breakfast. HP FRA is closer to a MOXY in size and general layout without the pandering for Millennials and Gen Zers. In other words, a basic and small hotel room with no storage space for anything whatsoever. One other difference you note is the fact that breakfast, a staple of the HP brand in the USA, isn't included here and, if I recall, over 20€ per person (although the spread does look good!)

And two of our stays at this location weren't for flying they were for a weekend shopping/air conditioning get away from Nuremberg where we live. So, we obviously like the property enough to return to. Oh, and the restaurant there has the absolute best chicken sandwich I have ever consumed in Germany, possibly all of Europe.

That said, it is extremely convenient to the airport and one night on our last stay we walked over just because we're flying/travel geeks. But another thing to note about Gateway Gardens is a general 'off' feeling of the entire area, formerly part of a USA military base. There is a level of lousy construction, businesses that closed leaving plants to slowly die in the windows and trash strewn everywhere that feels so much like China, not Germany. It's just weird. And as someone who has lived/worked in China (both Mainland and HK), it absolutely feels like the entire GG area was developed with Chinese money and companies.

There is no aloft at the Frankfurt airport

I stayed at this hotel in early Dec 2023. The best part was the soundproofing - they really nailed that, I couldn't hear a thing from outside. Check-in though was way understaffed when I arrived in the late evening, there was a huge line and at the rate it was moving I would've waited close to or over an hour. Thankfully I was able to check in using the app, but probably only possible for direct bookings. The lack of Nespresso or similar (only instant coffee) was also kind of lame. Overall, a decent airport hotel, but the Hilton is definitely better.

I've always wondered why so many European hotel showers only have that glass shield that goes half way. Water sprays all over the floor, especially arising from my lengthy hot showers. I guess there's an aversion to shower curtains but in the U.S. we usually have two sliding doors that completely enclose the shower.

I've stayed here a few times on Frankfurt layovers and found it totally adequate and a pleasant surprise compared to a typical Hyatt Place.

Hyatt Place outside North America could really be considered a whole separate brad from Hyatt Place inside North America! CDG and LHR being other examples of "high end" Hyatt Places I can think of.

The first time I stayed here (2021) the breakfast was free for everything. The next time in 2022 I only got it as a globalist. So it used to be standard Hyatt Place free for everyone.

Whenever laying over in Frankfurt I stay at the Hyatt Place. In particular I can walk to the hotel which gives some basic excercise. Bfast indeed is top, so is the bar in the evening.
Rooms are very functional, great internet.
Will be back soon, for sure, the hotels on the airport are a rip off..
