So it was a dispute between drug dealers, but if it was terrorists, wouldn't broadcasting a live feed of where your hiding place is on social media one of the last things you'd want to do?

Why the big fuss over this? If this was really something to be concerned with would you be videotaping the whole thing? Or would you try to be running towards safety and not trying to post on social media. I think if it were me I would be running away and would not be video taping and Facebooking and twittering and all of that silly stuff. I can't understand why someone has their phone out and videotaping in this when they're running for their life it does not make sense to me

If there was no drug demand from the tourists, the drug gangs and cartels would not exist. Same goes for the "drug" problem on the southern border, it is driven by drug demand in the USA

We were at the Ritz in Cancun in 2019. The amount of federales armed to the teeth patrolling the beach and the entrance to the resort was insane. There were groups of them on foot and on ATV’s. Balaclavas, fully-automatic weapons, the whole shebang.

They would wave to me or say ola because I guess I looked freaked out every time I saw them.

I returned from this resort last Saturday and had a fantastic time. There was heavy security guard protection all along the Beach front of this hotel. Reports say that they arrived in a stolen boat. Within walking distance to this hotel on the beach were 3 official boats tied up. If they stole one of those boats, it would make sense that no one would think twice about it pulling up until it was too late.

Honestly I would change your reservations. I was at the hotel last week, and outside of this unfortunate and terrifying event, the hotel rooms are not nice, are not 4-5 star quality, and many have not even been completely renovated since the Hyatt took over. The staff and ground are good, but the rooms (at least in buildings 5-6 and any others not in the "heart" of the resort) are not what you may be expecting. I was sorely disappointed in the rooms.
