Hello from London, as I’m reaching the tail end of my wild review trip. I just flew Etihad’s Airbus A380 first class from Abu Dhabi to London. Etihad recently put its A380s back into service, after grounding them for several years, and what a treat it was to fly this plane again.

So every alternate airline you’ve flown on this trip is disappointing, huh? BR phenomenal (on both legs), CX near-miss, SQ outstanding, GA a letdown, EY brilliant …. BA is all but guaranteed to continue the trend. Not that we expected any better. 😉

It's strange to read an article where you don't preface content with the unnecessary declaration of being an 'AV geek'.

How many Etihad miles is it typically from NYC to Abu Dhabi in a first class suite?

Etihad’s First Appartement is not as great as you sound it to be.
The seat does not fully recline (because there is a bed, I get it), but the maximum recline angle is not far enough, one cannot sit very comfortably. Use of available space is poor, the bed not that comfy as well. Overall I prefer the traditional F hard product at EY.
Food is virtually unchanged during the past 10 years, it gets boring very very quickly. At least they have caviar now. Champagne is not on par with other F products, same with the wines.
As their business product is very good, I really think the surcharge for flying F is not worth it on Etihad.

Taking LHR-AUH in a couple weeks, so looking forward to the updated(ish) experience, since the last time I was in the Apartment was 2015 just after launch.

Personally, I would prefer to fly this excellent product on a longer flight to fully enjoy the entire experience including 2 full meals. The flights from ME to Europe are "too short".
