It's good to see your dad doing well. I still remember your surprise flight with your dad on Emirates' A380 more than a decade ago. He took a photo with the signature garb on behind the bar and your dad was presented with a cake so big he shared it with the entire First Class cabin.
Good overview but the question we all want answered is: did your dad use the bed or did he sleep sitting up?

I remember the "good old days" when you were either still in school or had just graduated and blogging, but didn't drink and had no interest in it.

@ Todd -- Diet Coke with lime, good times! Funny enough, I remember having my first-ever glass of champagne in Singapore Airlines first class, back when the airline had that product on 777-200s... good times as well! :p
Your dad seems like an incredibly fun person to travel with.
Also sorry if I missed but i assume you got Emirates status to book this yes? Did you get the credit card or just the old fashioned way?

You have no idea what I remember from your flights; if you made an article on your most memorable flights, you'd be surprised on what I remember haha
A wonderful dad, clearly beaming with pride. As even we avgeeks often become blasé over the years sometimes seeing only the cuts, it’s awesome to see this level of excitement through the eyes of your dad! Hopefully this will be continued as your boys grow older and start to enjoy flying as much as you do!

@Ben Proofread- It would be interesting if you wrote about your experience booking the flight with the new restrictions. Was it a last minute booking? Did you notice more availability?
@ NomadDC -- Yes, I booked a couple of days before departure, and the process was the same as it was before the restrictions, when logged into my account. Unfortunately I've found Emirates first class availability to actually be pretty bad lately, even with the new restrictions. It seems the airline has gotten even stricter with releasing award space.

Do you travel with your siblings on trips like this as well?
100000 skywards miles seems vlery little for a first class cabin ... I usually pay about 60k for a business class seat on a similar distance!
Just take some DHM pills (Dihydromyricetin - can buy on Amazon ) and you won’t have hangovers anymore! YWIA! 😉
If I had enough money for first class, I would fly the daytime JFK-LHR and it could even be in economy class. The LHR or LCY to Linate the next morning. More refreshing than a redeye JFK-MXP.
That sort of menu would require me to try everything. I would be disappointed in myself if I didn't lol.

Awesome moments to cherish Ben, wonderful experience. Now I will always remember that surprise trip with AF to South Africa ... where you got the crew involved by not announcing the destination ... and the climax was when the Captain got asked "where he would fly to" ... he replied "I don't know myself"!!

As a veteran of; let’s just say, “one or two” flights in EK F; I have to say they make it difficult for the reformed habitual drinker. As you say, Ben, their wine lists are superlative, the best in the business, and it takes a will of steel to resist the call of a bottle of Hennessy Paradis. Perhaps some day I shall overtake mere abstinence and become someone for whom the call of alcohol is genuinely extinct, but until then I’ll read these trip reports with envy.
As I’ve said more than once before, Ben’s trip reports are the best in the business, bar none.

Are they now serving Dom Perignon on the ground at JFK? Last time I flew they served Veuve Clicquot until in the air.
