FlyerTalker oliver2002 gave me a lift to the airport (as he was on my flight as well), and we got there about 45 minutes before departure. Unfortunately that left no time to visit the lounge, which looked nice. For some odd reason Northwest boards 757's 40 minutes prior to departure, and I didn't want to…

DTW is a great airport. Very clean, efficient, and just down-right cool! Did you at least see the Taco Bell near the high 70s gates? Ha!

Back in the spring, I arrived in DTW at 5:15am from a red-eye from SFO. Nothing was more mesmorizing at that time in the morning than the underground tunnel with the lights! 🙂

glad you liked NW and DTW, but how could you guys like that tunnel, i call it the "seizure tunnel". Especailly during that drum song, its like a Japanese cartoon show.

Nice review. Glad you finally got to experience DTW. It is by far my favorite US airport to connect at.

Do know what, if anything, DL is planning to do with the old F cabins? I assume there will be an upgrade at some point . . .

That might have been it, Hodgie. I just found it odd that there was a 747 sitting around after all european and asian departures.

Gray, that's a good question. I haven't heard anything about that yet, and I would actually guess that in the short run (next 1-2 years) they're not going to make too many changes. I'll look into that, though.

Wow, I had no idea about the tunnel. Never had to change terminals, I guess. Will definitely have to check it out next time... IF there is a next time. 🙁 Delta Schmelta. <-- Got that from a MSP FA.

Long live the NW Redtail in our hearts and memories.

Thanks for a terrific report as always!

Great report! I have not been to DTW in six years and it I was in the other terminal when I was there. As you stated, it looks like a world class airport.

The 744 was there because NWA overnights 1 744 for maintenance purposes. It usually gets towed t the hanger, so perhaps that hadn't been done yet or the work required could be done at the gate. NWA had a refurbishing schedule for the planes but when the DL merger came along, those plans were shelved.

I took a 747 from DTW to Gatwick last year that left at 9:30pm from the gate next to that one. Then again, maybe it was there because Detroit is in EST and everyone thinks it's in CST ; )
