So, is she the Tim Dunn login character? Alternatively, did she attend the Tim Dunn, Delta indoctrination class when she was employed?
I never get those snowflakes who seem to respond as "I'm American" when your ethnicity obviously isn't from one of the Cherokee tribes.
Next time why don't you answer that with "My pronoun of the day is ze American"
First, this lady is awesome and was just having fun and building rapport with another person who she likely perceived to be Asian as well.
Dunno about snowflakes, but it's reasonable to get a little annoyed when you get quizzed about where you're from based solely on your appearance. I'm a first generation Caucasian looking American and I've never been asked where I'm from, but my girlfriend is a fifth generation American of Chinese decent and she is often asked where she's from. When she says "Newport", sometimes people say, "But where are you REALLY from?"
So, you know, if people are flipping out about it, that's one thing. This guy is not. He is politely stating that he's an American in a very friendly voice.
Cameras have gotten too cheap, and web content too easy for average idiots to produce and share.
Who is this person? Why is their journey worth documenting and sharing? Why do we care how long it takes them to check a bag?
And they're a lousy cameraman, too. Get motion sickness from all those head jerks.
No shade, but people gotta stop mentioning Timmy when he's not in a conversation. He's already got issues, he doesn't need his Truman Show Syndrome validated.
Side note, one of the weirdest elements of these niche travel sites is the prevalence of very specific personality types with outsized influence. Fascinating.
Also, whatever happened to our international sophisticate ARPS? Did he pull a Sonny Bono skiing in Klosters this last winter season? Is he too busy summering in Capri to post?
In Miami this would be, you talk to me in English, I respond to you in Spanish.
I'd take this interaction over any rudeness or sourpuss from a customer service rep.
My grandmother moved to the US in her forties, so she had a bit of an accent. Whenever someone erroneously guessed her origins she would say, "Even better, I'm from x!" It never failed to bring out smiles.
ARPS did appear in a couple of different frocks earlier this year. However, it did not last long as its slip kept sliding below the hemline …. not a pretty sight! …. 🙂
First, I agree the Delta agent was awesome. She is very friendly, customer oriented and has higher tolerance and perseverance than you all realize.
Your gf and you are both snowflakes for being annoyed even a little, when they ask follow up questions. You already know what they're trying to ask. You're just answer it like the few instance where Tim Dunn is quoting an actual fact. Not denying the fact. But you're still being Tim Dunn of 5th generation Chinese American.
As a Caucasian you don't get that because you drove the natives into the desert, brainwash them, and ultimately ethnic cleansing them. That's why you don't get a Navajo asking where are you from.

As someone who lived in Miami for 2 years not knowing Spanish when I moved there, and being of South Asian descent, this was a PITA.
I would tell people "No hablo Espanol", but no one would believe me! They would keep talking in Spanish and blatantly ignore what I just told them. South Asian genes and Hispanic genes look quite similar (and I happen to look very hispanic as well) so I get why people would assume I am hispanic. But, when I tell them I don't speak Spanish, they assume I am one of those people who thinks English is superior and doesn't want to speak in my native tongue of Spanish. But they were wrong, I truly had no idea what people were saying lol.
Eventually I just learned enough Spanish to get by. It comes in handy when I travel to Spanish speaking countries. But in more important situations, I stick to English. Many Hispanics still judge me thinking I just don't like to speak Spanish lol

Funny how Americans get so defensive when asked where are they from. Almost as if they’re insecure about their heritage and know that they’re not from America.
Ask yourself if you want to be the kind of person who shows courtesy to others, or you want to be the kind of person who lectures others on what is appropriate for them to be sensitive about.
For instance, I don't have a problem with being the butt of short jokes (I'm 1.83, which in my family makes me very short), but I know at least one person who does not like those jokes so I don't tell them around this person. It's called courtesy.
If you are a person who has no sensitivities whatsoever, good for you. I'm guessing that's not the case. So maybe treat other people the way you'd want to be treated.
As for the not from America thing, if you really wanna tell a person of Asian decent that they're not from America because their ancestry is from elsewhere, you can take that logic all the way back to the Beringia Land Bridge, and from there none of us are from America.
