Delta Unveils Cabin Refresh, With Darker Interior Colors
It’s pretty easy to tell the interiors of Delta aircraft apart from those of other airlines, given the extent to which Delta has historically used a bright blue as the predominant color in aircraft cabins. This will soon be changing, and the new cabins might just be unrecognizable.

How much life is left in the 757s if they are getting refreshed cabins?
Here in Europe it must be 15 years since I last flew on a 757 so I thought Delta must be retiring them soon.
The white shell still makes it dull and sterile. If not a pattern or motif, they could've added some colour to the shell.
Delta plans to keep them until at least 2030, somehow. But they’re fine jets so I’m not complaining
It is funny because BA's new cabin looks like what will be Delta's old cabin lol
I would’ve guessed Air Canada by the look of the economy cabin especially
Will this new color scheme be installed on their regional partner jets as well?
Maybe I'm going senile but I seem to remember Delta announcing a switch to purple after it unveiled the purple-centric uniforms around 2018.
So dull and dark nothing warm here
Pull out something like JAL or ANA with fabrics to be warm and premium
Favorite was the old UA brown / grey with sunset stripes. Such a nice pop of color and warm.
Though DL didn’t really need new seat design it’s only been what 5 or so years
"Seat tags"... seems like Delta is just flat out copying United these days
seems like there are some fighting words in there for our friends in Chicago:
"The Infinite Grid welcomes the customers onboard reminding them that no one better connects the world than Delta. The Celestial Sky pattern leverages elements of our global network while evoking the excitement and wonder of flying."
The fact that DL actually is receiving new widebody aircraft and can convert the interiors of used A350s that it smartly acquired while its competitors wait and wait and wait for Boeing to declare chapter 11 puts DL in a uniquely advantaged position going into its 2nd century of flight.
The real essence of this is the new materials that are used. Colors might be all that catch the eye of some people but the real focus is how DL incorporates new materials that it says - and likely are true - last longer and are more comfortable.
I think that was just the uniforms. United went with the purple premium plus seats.
The 757s are a great aircraft. Especially up front because there are so many first-class seats. Plus, there is a large galley space for crew. The 737-900s that replaced the 757 on some routes is awful. The galley space on that plane is too small. As is the first-class lavatory. And the closest is at the back of first-class. The only issue with Delta's 757 is Delta doesn't use the forward boarding door. So, all of comfort-plus (extra-legroom economy) and part of economy deplanes BEFORE first-class.
"seems like there are some fighting words in there for our friends in Chicago:
'The Infinite Grid welcomes the customers onboard reminding them that no one better connects the world than Delta. The Celestial Sky pattern leverages elements of our global network while evoking the excitement and wonder of flying.' "
Sounds like marketing words from a team that designs seats and doesn't know much about Delta's network lol. But leave it to you to try to seem relevant with United...
And how you can keep spouting the nonsense about delta and their wide bodies is very entertaining. United has A350s, 787s, and XLRs coming. Delta's wide body order book is a joke compared to United.
Get a grip on reality.
Will DL be adjusting any cabin configurations aside from the colour modifications?
I genuinely read this twice and thought it was one of your parody accounts LOL. You're officially beyond parody
the reality is that UA has deferred its A350 order for years.
UA could be receiving its first A350-1000 in months but it will be DL that is using its uniquely close relationship with VS to apparently take over a VS A350-1000 delivery position; Airbus A350 production lists show that DL's first A350-1000 should be built in the the first half of next year and could be in service by this time next year if not earlier...
and that is on top of 14 Airbus widebodies that are being delivered this year plus 11 next year - on top of the ex-Latam conversions to the new DL 359 configuration.
You see, you and a whole lot of UA fan kiddos got way too comfortable thinking that UA was the divine gift to the airline world because DL played very cautious during the pandemic and built its fleet plan around a return of international demand post covid in 2024 and beyond.
DL has a boatload of new widebody of new, highly fuel efficient aircraft coming online while AA retired everything except its 777s and its 787s and UA kept everything and now has the oldest and least fuel efficient widebody fleet of any of the top 10 global airlines in the world.
Order books mean nothing... getting them delivered is what matters. Tim Clark of Emirates is downright scared to death that Boeing's likely impending trip through Chapter 11 could mean the 777X might never get delivered and UA is deathly afraid that the MAX issues might not be resolved for years in the future. UA managed to get a few A321NEOs but it put way too much faith in Boeing and the grandiose growth plans that United had are simply not happening - and that has actually turned out to UA's benefit.
Get with reality, Max, and realize that, if UA can make money flying international, DL will too. DL will have a far more efficient and modern fleet than UA - much more in line with the largest global airlines in the world - even as UA clings to every old and tired widebody it has used over the past 3 decades.
how many years ago did we hear that UA would "Next" its narrowbody fleet and we are up to a small double digit percentage of its fleet CONVERTED.
DL is now rolling out global WiFi and will have its mainline fleet completed before UA flies its first revenue flight with StarLink.
The evidence is overwhelming that DL writes the playbook that UA copies. DL will just get through w/ each project years before UA.
and DL will have more and more modern aircraft in the process.
the first of the ex-Latam A350s is going in for conversion which is likely why they said the first A350 will be seen in the new color scheme in early 2025.
As part of the conversion, the A350-900s will get a 40 D1/40 PS and remainder economy including Comfort plus configuration for a total of 275 seats which is down a total of 31 seats from the original delivery A350-900s.
The 7 new A350-900s for this year have the new configuration.
No other types are known to be reconfigured
11 paragraphs written shortly after I wrote. You're pretty bored today.
I'd respond but it's just your usual ignorant drivel. no surprise. you ignore actual facts and push your delta narrative, facts and orderbooks be damned lol
You really are too funny, Tim
But this one is just a gem "even as UA clings to every old and tired widebody it has used over the past 3 decades."
coming from Delta's chief fanboy, this is a funny one, Tim. lol. you're such a joke
Yeah if it didn't say Diamond next to his name, we wouldn't know the real from the parody accounts anymore. If we ever did, anyway.
whatever happened to you sending a copy of your driver's license to Ben to prove you're really named Tim Dunn? Did you get scared?
Harold,
life is little more than reality mixed with art anyway.
For those that were convinced that UA was the divine gift to the world, DL's international growth is a tragedy unfolding - IOW, a slow motion train wreck of their dreams of UA's world domination.
DL will be challenging UA's global spread with efficient, highly capable widebodies instead of tens of thousands of route miles flown by 737s.
Definitely resembles some of Air France's newer planes, which makes sense given the close partnership.
lol. this really is such a stupid reply, Tim. United is flying to places with 737s that Delta can't even send people to on KLM or Korean.
Nobody thinks United is god's gift to the world but they are ahead of Delta in every possible international way: JVs, alliance partners, hubs, widebodies, narrow body-capable TATL aircraft. The only area where Delta beats United is via failed equity purchases and unprofitable partners
Stop being such a joke
This looks much nicer than what they have now, IMO. I’ve only flown Delta a couple of times and thought they were pretty solid but I was struck by how cheap, sterile and uninviting the cabins looked. This doesn’t look especially exciting but I do think it appears fairly elegant and sophisticated.
"Head like a hole, black as your soul, I'd rather die than fly on Delta." - Trent Reznor if he was an avgeek.
No. That would be you as a United employee.
Customers don’t spend much time at airports if they choose correctly
Shame of them for not switching to breathable fabric in business class from cheap, sweaty, plastic (no, it's not "leather") which makes the ride quite inferior, especially on long flights
I wish. Air France seats are covered with breathable fabric, not the sticky unbreathable cheap pleather of Delta.
Tim, when are you sending your driver's license to Ben so he can validate who you say you are? Remember how proud you were that you're using your own real name on here? Prove it, cupcake.
so DL is going to use AA colors. . Hmmm and why do the 757's retire them already. Dumb Delta Dumb
"and to create a singular experience across the fleet"
But the multiple business class seats still remain.
I've never said my real name is Max Power. You have said many times your real name is Tim Dunn despite using NUMEROUS other names during your online years of trolling.
Prove it or stop saying Tim Dunn is your real name. Your ridiculous articles are written on a website that has very clear guidelines that you can write under a fake name. And since your profile photo there looks very fake, it's easy to assume your name is too.
But again, it's very easy to prove, Tim.
There's no hypocrisy when I've never once said my real name is Max Power. Only you seem to think it is
If you think brown and grey are "warm" colors, then it's probably best that they don't take advice from you.....
Tim:
Do they expect to get all the ex-LATAM aircraft done before next summer? It would be nice to eliminate at least one of the many business class configurations Delta has.
I don't know why these comments sections always devolve into UA vs. DL but given this is purely a Delta-focused post, I have to say I really like the new interiors. I'm a UA loyalist and I've never been a huge fan of Delta's bright blue or (even worse) powder blue seats so nice to see a more upscale design direction.
I'd rather have something that looks like other competitors, but looks nice, than something unique and different just for the sake of being unique and different...
Is it me, or the economy seats look like slimline seats with pretty much no padding?
As for the colors, feels like Spirit or Air Canada in all honesty, so nothing special or recognizable.
the vast majority of global airlines do not have a single unified type of business class seat because it is impossible to modify a fleet of 100+ widebody aircraft in anywhere close to the same time frame.
And the risk in trying to create a single product is that you end up w a product that is not class leading and you have "dumb down" the product to fit the lowest common denominator of your fleet. Different cabin widths allows airlines to do different things with a resulting higher quality overall product.
well, you have stated that is your real name - even if jokingly - and the fact that you are trying to argue about whether someone else is using their real name when you admittedly don't use your own is the real issue.
You want to think that someone else is using a fake name so you can discredit what they have to say.
Fix your own fraudulent ways before lecturing to the rest of us.
Delta has some of the last 757s that rolled off the production line.
They are retiring several 757s this week so they will retire them when it makes sense to do so.
The fact that people have stepped onto DL 757s for years and thought they were on a new plane shows how well engineered the 757 was and how well DL has managed to keep its fleet fresh.
the biggest part of this whole refresh is actually the change in cabin materials even though alot of people are fixated on the colors.
you to no surprise are more impressed by adding a few more dots to a route map despite the fact that most of those new dots are by seasonal less than daily flights on narrowbodies.
let's be honest, though.
DL is refreshing its cabins and will likely complete the project far faster than UA got Polaris onboard all of its aircraft and faster than UA will finish fleetwide NEXT and WiFi.
UA has set DL as its "north star" (Brian Sumer sees it) for strategic copying ever since Scott Kirby got the doors slammed in his face at American and got Oscar to hire him.
Kirby said that UA would reach DL's level of profitability and might do it for the 3rd quarter when UA reports later today BUT
1. UA is still not expected to surpass DL's profitability on a year round basis based on guidance each company has reported
2. UA has yet to settle with its FAs even though AA FAs have voted in their new contract. Kirby has long said that he would top the industry so UA will be shelling out hundreds of millions more in labor costs plus a cool half billion minimum in retro. UA's financials will fall after it settles with its FAs.
3. UA can thank its lucky stars that Boeing can't deliver the planes Kirby thought Boeing would provide; UA would be the ones with significant overcapacity while the ULCCs that Kirby thought he would take out are failing all by themselves.
so, no, MAX, the only area where UA beats DL is in dots on route maps and burning more jet fuel.
DL leads in just about every financial and customer service metric.
nice attempt at misdirection and obfuscation, Tim. But Delta is unique among the US3 about having so many different types of business class seats.
And AA/UA are Delta's primary competitors.
lol. I have never once said Max Power is my real name. Not even a joke unless you actually had no clue about a McLovin SuperBad reference. It wouldn't be the first thing to go completely over your head. Most facts and real arguments seems to go completely over your head as well
But thank you for confirming that Tim Dunn is not your real name despite your many lies about it in the past. It's always nice to get you on record rebutting your own past lies.
I could truly care less if Tim Dunn is your real name. You've said it is multiple times and now you're backtracking when asked to prove it. Yet another Tim Lie but no surprise since your life is consumed with lies.
The condensation dripping onto me from the ceiling during boarding on a DL 757 with an ear-piercing air conditioning system really made me fee like I was on a fresh new plane.
not Timmy changing the topic when he can't reply to the topic being discussed?!?
Yes. United kick's Delta's ass when it comes to international in every respect.
"DL is refreshing its cabins and will likely complete the project far faster than UA got Polaris onboard all of its aircraft"
Yeah. You actually have no idea because even Delta hasn't committed to anything and Polaris created a consistent lie flat product across the fleet, something Delta certainly isn't doing. If you're going to make baseless assumptions, at least try to compare apples to apples.
"you to no surprise are more impressed by adding a few more dots to a route map despite the fact that most of those new dots are by seasonal less than daily flights on narrowbodies."
Omg. An airline doing a seasonal route?! someone tell the DOT!!! And less than daily?! Did you call your buddies at Delta to tell them non-daily flights are unacceptable? I think they should know that they really let you down with their summer seasonal non-daily flights. 😉
You really are a crazy person with no analytical thought. You throw out accusations about United that apply to Delta. lol. Grow up and learn.
And also... "Tim", again, it's nice that you rebutted your own lies about your name finally. I can always count on you to forget what you've said since you tell so many lies and you can't remember them all.
I'm an AA loyalist, and I've only flown DL a few times, but I think the new interior looks sharp. It's a lot more appealing than the blue tone they are currently using, which I think is really unattractive.
If I remember correctly, the seats had a "quilted" type of design on the back which I did like, so unfortunate to see that design aspect disappearing....though maybe the new fabric doesn't hold the quilted pattern as well, and perhaps it's a production cost saving.
What are the chances of an external livery refresh. Maybe larger titles, or tweaks to the tail widget? It’s been almost 20 years since the current one was introduced, after all.
in other words, you can't stand to admit I am right - which I am - so you do all you can to try to denigrate me while you hypocritically do what you tell others not to do. hypocrisy to the MAX.
any wonder that MAX jumps into a conversation from a UA employee?
it's all part of the entertainment for some while deeply personal for others...
just like Delta's cabin refresh, there is a whole lot in the industry that goes beyond colors and appearances...
the text in DL's news release almost certainly from an AI rewrite, I use one occasionally, it consistently uses words I'd never think of, doubt anybody else would, either.
1) I am not a United employee. I'm just a 1K.
2) The handle is a joke. As in, I'm at the airport almost as much as at my apartment. It's called exaggeration, Timbits. Just like when you exaggerate all the time about DL.
3) Not only am I not an employee of United, I've never been fired by them. Unlike you and DL.
Honestly I hate it. It lacks any personality or flair.
It just looks like a reskinned ver. of what everyone else is doing. AA and UA also have similar dark/black seats.
It's crazy bc Virgin Atlantic manages to have such a fun design pattern, while basically being run by Delta, so I don't know why Delta can't pull something off like that instead of this bland and boring mess.
Lipstick on a pig, if Delta doesn’t deal with their current issues of abusing their long-term, loyal customers and trying to be a big bank (and not a quality airline).
I’ll take real air gaspers and strong AC over the pitiful circulation of the newer models. Also flying in humid climates you’ll experience the condensation on all aircraft
Beautiful and elegant, the olo ocre blue is so hideous and cheap, so glad Delta and Southwest ditched that tacky blue for good.
You really are such a loser and a mental nitwit, Tim.
You repeatedly lie about your own name then call others hypocritical when you get called out on it. Don't lie if you don't like to be called out on lying.
I can’t think of anything more premium than a new seat cover on a 30 year old 757.
Former creative director for a division of a multi-national company here. This is exactly the kind of crap we would spew out when pitching our designs to the executive team. Though, we'd never expect to see it in a press release.
Finally, they retire that offensive deep blue they've used for about 19 years too long. Yes, a new livery is sorely needed. And enough with the candy apple red, nit even as an accent. The more they resemble Air France, the better.
Am I crazy or didn’t they release these photos in February of this year too?
Y los 737-800 que estaban reconfigurando hace poco? También los
Volverán a cambiar a esos tonos oscuros?
The dark color is chosen similar to rental car companies preferring black interiors. It hides wear and tear and dirt better than lighter shades. These seats and carpets get a lot of use.
Some day I would love to scroll the comments from a Delta-related article without having to navigate the insults & banter hurled between Tim Dunn and Max Power. Can you two just DM each other? Sheesh.
P.S. I'm somewhat surprised Delta would go black, but I like the updated look.
Your right, they should have started with the
B717, the backbone of the Delta fleet.
Same with DCS tbh about Hilton articles
Longwinded diatribes about a loyalty program that is just fine and yet needs to go on and on defending it as if it was the best thing since sliced bread.
some people are hellbent on doing whatever they can to throw rocks while hiding behind the bushes - using anonymous, fake made up names and that is why I will take every opportunity to set the record straight - because truth is hard to find these days, regardless of the topic, whenever people like Max hypocrisy show up in the conversation.
"while deeply personal for others..."
That's the most introspective thing you've ever said about yourself, Tim.
Wow. Way to talk to your therapist about this
lol. Are you really this much of a loser to talk about fake usernames again when your own is one?
You need mental help. If Tim Dunn is your real name, it's easy to prove but it isn't and yet you attack others? You're the height of hypocritical. Get a life. you're sad lol
What an incredibly grim looking color scheme. DL’s slide into mediocrity continues.
I like it! Updating the interior is a refreshing idea! I’m not sure how the darker colors will “feel”- but the pictures look nice.
I wish they’d take the money they’re spending on making the cabins more drab and make more comfortable seats.
Total BS!
If Delta wants to improve the flight experience they can get rid of the horrible music that all the flight crews and most of the passengers HATE!
It’s like a nail through my head and makes flying more stressful than it has to be!
Delta, stop torturing your passengers!
