The math on this is pretty easy for even just one flight a year:

A checked bag is worth $100 round trip. For a couple it is worth $200 round trip.

$100 hotel stay

$100 in flight

Figure a lounge visit is worth at least $25 worth of airport food for a total of $100.

A domestic flight is worth at least $400 so the
Companion ticket is worth at least $300

So the math for a couple that flies once a year each with a bag is:

$200+$100+$100+$100+$300=$800 minimum value for a $350 AF.
Figure in more flights with free luggage and something more than the absolute cheapest domestic flight and the value goes up even more.

Unless of course the person flies in first. Two/three bags free. Meal included. Companion ticket is useless. If someone has non-US tier status, lounges are free. So, I'd say that there's a group for whom the card works and many others for whom the card doesn't. It's not a no-brainer card.

OK already, I applied through your link and got immediate approval and the 4 lounge passes.

Now do the math for a single person who always flies domestic first or international business.

Your statements are true but not relevant for the overwhelming number of people.

First class only has about a 3% share.

Your other caveats are also low frequency.

Less than half of the US population flies every year.

Median household income in the US is about $84K:

Figure in:
Food
Clothing
Shelter
Transportation
Education
Insurance
Communication
Healthcare
Saving for retirement
Taxes

And more, for the typical US household this is an excellent card.

For outliers such as yourself, no.

My math is valid for the cadre I outlined which is by magnitudes more prevalent than the examples you gave.

Yes, this not a great card for you but it is a great card for a vastly greater group of people than the categories you are in.

Can I still charge my estimated tax payment to the card to satisfy the spending limit???
