That's an awful lot of money spent on a lounge that is only open four hours per day...
I'm surprised about the economics of this. It sounds to me as if BA doesn't fly much from Miami, with the lounge also only open for a aouple of hours per day. Are the 2M+ operational costs per year really worth it for a few flights? How many people will say "Oh if BA has a nice lounge in Miami I will definitely pay for first class!"?
@ chris w -- In fairness, as of the start of the winter schedule, there will be two daily A380s to Miami, and presumably hours will be extended then.
@ neogucky -- The lounge will soon be open longer, because as of late October, there will be two daily A380s to Miami. Between first and business class, plus elite members, I imagine that at least 150 people per flight have lounge access, so that would be 300 people per day.
If the airline otherwise had to pay $30 per person to another airline for lounge access (and possibly even more), the airline would be paying somewhere around $9K per day to a third party. So I imagine the economics will work out favorably, even if this seems like a lot.
It would make sense for Iberia to have access to this lounge as well, since they also depart out of E and are also part of IAG.
Are people actually going to use this lounge? It feels unlikely that people will get the train to the E satellite early, instead they will just go to the Admirals Club which presents in itself as a more immediate option.
The Concorde Dining Room wine list includes Pommery Cuvée Louise 2005 and Don Pérignon Brut 2015. I wonder this selection is just for the opening day.
Neptune- I think you may not have read the article completely. If they are flying 2 of their A380’s, they will more than fill the lounge especially during the evening rush. You can bet that they will extend the hours since their flights are in the evening. I would also assume that they will get traffic from Qatar Airways, Iberia, and Finnair who all depart from terminal E. I would go as far as to say that between 6-10pm it will be extremely crowded.
BA folks will use the lounge. Flying AA, I would absolutely go out of my way to visit this lounge as BA Gold. It's really not that far... at IAD, folks go from B to D concourses all the time to lounge hop.
this is BA bet on next 2-5 years. New York is dead, Miami will be new financial hub all the elite traffic is moving to Miami. I won't surprise if BA will increase frequency between Miami and London
@Lucky, When you talked about "British Airways’ history with lounges at Miami Airport," I thought you would mention the joint AA/BA/IB lounge in the 2010s.
