WOW. Normally BA is exceedingly stingy with compensation! This is shocking.

It's not generous compensation. In most cases it will be less than EC261 requires for a downgrade (which is between 30% and 70% of the ticket price in cash, depending on flight length). BA is just trying to dodge its obligations under the reg.

The Kuwait Flight isn’t operated by 787 but by 777-200 but nonetheless a better upgrade in terms of entertainment.

I have been incrediably lucky with this as both wife and I have received 280,000 each as we had booked this trip with a 2-4-1 amex voucher. This is on top of the 140,000 each we received for the downgrade we had on a lhr -yyz booking for November. All in all, not a bad couple of weeks. 840,000 avios in comp in total.

My parents are flying in business class to the US from DEL on a combined BA/AA ticket during these dates in which the DEL to LHR leg is BA 142/143. However, their ticket was technically sold (via a travel agent) by AA. Couple of questions,

1. Do they still qualify for compensation if they get rebooked?
2. Can they proactively re-book themselves on a different flight? Downgrade won't really work since my parents have health issues and can't fly in coach.

Can you be a basic BLUE member or which level must you be on to qualify?

@james I agree for the Avios option because they're valuing Avios at $0.005 ea here, and you can only buy them at the cheapest for $0.024.

I feel like the real losers here are the potential business passengers who get bumped to economy. At least the first > business passengers will still have a flat-bed and somewhat of a private space. The difference between business > economy in this scenario is way bigger than first > business in my opinion.

Having just flown DEL-LHR in PE with BA last week, I have to say this is a horrible way to treat PE customers. You get rebooked in economy with no compensation at all unless you specifically have status with BA? That's ridiculous, and gives me an even poorer impression of BA than I got after flying LHR-JFK on "premium" economy.

What about the catering? Will it be a Qatar Menu or BA Menu?

By using Qatar Airways for long haul flights say from Bali to the UK with a connection at Doha, British Airways are avoiding paying compensation for missed connections under the EU Regulation EC 261/2004.
