And I've never heard that the UK has a law that especially bans supporting Trump, including wearing a MAGA hat, so maybe you're right that I brought constitution to this was a bit too far but that doesn't meam that what that woman did is unlawful.

Totally agree that UK law applied at Heathrow, but I’m not sure the relevance. First, the US also has laws against inciting violence. Second, as much as I abhor Trump and his hats, I’m not sure wearing them would be classified as inciting violence under either UK or US law.
First off, the woman who found the Trump hat offensive should never have initiated violence. No excuse for that behavior. She does not speak for all progressives just like you don’t for all conservatives.
Second, terminating or not terminating a pregnancy is a woman’s personal choice and does not affect the public health at large. Your choosing not to get vaccinated, reducing herd immunity, and leading to resurgence of once-eradicated diseases very much does. They are not equivalent issues when public health and safety are at stake.

I loathe President Trump and his MAGA agenda, but it is really silly, and frankly embarrassing to wage domestic political fights in front of a foreign country. It's very unfair to the rest of the passengers on the flight who are just trying to get from Point A to Point B on time. The police at LHR were absolutely correct to remove the two women involved. If you can't keep your cool on a plane, you don't deserve to fly. Full stop. On a separate note, it does paint an even worse perception of America's divisions in the eyes of the UK public. But I'm curious, how is it that BA didn't ask the person wearing the hat to remove political clothing, similar to the US airlines from time to time? Given Trump is very unpopular in UK, you'd think this would have been implemented.

My thoughts on the hat situation? This woman is a pretty bad "ambassador" for her beliefs, and I'd be saying the same if it were the other way. But at the end of the day, it's just another progressive doing things they accuse fascists of doing, and another conservative wearing Trump merch. That stuff must sell well.

But a lot of people who have a knee-jerk hatred for the federal government seem to give a break to the sleazy guy in hopes that he breaks the federal government which they disdain to some degree or another and to scupper the hopes of those on the other side of the partisan divide. But given all the past respectable leaders of the Republican Party seem to know how bad Trump is as a person and for the country and are de facto endorsing Harris, it’s a pretty bad sign that there are still so many Trump supporters that I expect Trump to win the electoral college vote in this election. Honestly, this could have been avoided all together by both persons. The attacker could have just ignored the MAGA woman, or just give a mild eye roll or sigh in disgust, rather than try to go in full on attack mode. And as for the lady in the MAGA hat, while I condemn the violence unleashed on her, personally wearing such divisive clothing while being in a public place such as an airport (especially in a foreign country where the leader in question is deeply unpopular, but this would apply anywhere) is only asking for trouble. In Britain, it's typically a norm to keep political views to yourselves, so she made a conscious choice to attract attention. This is a problem of today's society, where people feel like they need to publicise every single opinion they have to the whole world. You have the right to free expression, but wouldn't it be best if you just wore something uncontroversial, and make your voice heard at the ballot box like in any free society?

I unequivocally condemn violence unleashed by the other lady, and support freedom of expression. But why not dress and act in a civil manner in public places (especially in foreign countries), while making your voice heard at the ballot box as a citizen performing his or her civic duties?
Exactly. Heathrow is such a busy hub, with so many people from around the world arriving, connecting, and departing. Why not set a good example for others on how to behave in a civil and orderly manner (I'm not in any way suggesting that only Americans or Westerners are capable of this)? Is this a good way to improve the perception of others outside of the US about Americans and the state of the country? Generally speaking, I avoid political debates on planes, especially since the society got so divided and the views so entrenched (i.e., in my own country, since 1992). In case other pax are seeking the debate, I am trying to refuse politely. If they insist, I call the cabin crew.
Needless to say that I am feeling unhappy about this societal division, but I learnt to live with it.
If both women were throwing punches when the FAs arrived, both are getting tossed. It's a quite sensible, clear line to draw that doesn't require anyone to make some sort mini-investigation and then a judgment call over "who started it."

This is an easy one. You should never physically engage someone just for wearing a MAGA hat (or a camo Harris Walz hat, etc. etc.).
