We flew BA949 from Split to Heathrow. Just before landing the pilot informed us that Heathrow was closed and we were being diverted to Gatwick.
We waited in the plane for about four hours before BA could secure buses to transport us to the terminal.
Many people had connections canceled and were advised to handle their own arrangements and submit receipts for reimbursement.
On the upside, we were told the airport was a zoo...it was, but we were through immigration within five minutes. Really surprising, but we were grateful.
This is on the heels of yet another Heathrow baggage system failure a few days ago - second one of the summer. (And I'm still waiting on my bag).

Alaska has a stuck 789 in addition to the mx on in fco which has a brake problem (wondering if it’s related to the Vietnam Airlines nmincident)
Speaking of LHR, are you still not going to investigate the issue with Alaska losing access to certain partner routes like JFK to LHR?
JFK to LHR and other specific routes have been completely blocked for points bookings on Alaska. Zero awards of any type from any partner for the full year, despite seeing the same partners like AA or BA on other US to LHR routes, and no alternative routes like Aer Lingus or Iberia being offered. The segment itself is still showing availability via connections like BOS-JFK-LHR, etc.
Same thing has happened to the SFO to TPE route with zero awards on this route of any partner, while Starlux awards are available on other routes or LAX-SFO-TPE. No Cathay/JAL or anyone else either.
So some routes are being systemically blocked off on Alaska. This is the kind of journalism and investigation you would be interested in, in the past. Especially when you are actively switching over to Alaska for status now.
In the video , all the people waiting in line were waiting for the one restroom . In the meantime , Heathrow has decided to build more gates and restrooms . Progress .
