There's no way the Secret Service, NSA, or Department of Defense would allow a sitting president to fly around on some tacky Arab's toy jet at the drop of a hat. Please educate yourself before spouting off
1. Russia invaded Ukraine, not the other way around, and Trump did nothing about it in his first term (nor did Obama). Trump actually BLACKMAILED Zelensky instead for dirt on Biden, which is why he was impeached the first time.
2. Aid to Ukraine was primarily US military equipment that had been collecting dust in stateside warehouses for decades, not cash
3. What cash was spent predominantly went to US COMPANIES to expand production of missiles and munitions to supply to Ukraine, ADDING US JOBS FOR US WORKERS
I guarantee you, you don't want the future where Russia gets everything it wants from this war. That gives China the green light to take Taiwan, and Russia can feel free to invade other Euro countries in a decade or two. Because what do they have to fear if we won't do anything about it?

Remember it was Trump that proudly told Americans how much money he had saved them by buying two 747-8i jets that had been built for a Russian airline that went bankrupt. Boeing tried to tell him it would be cheaper and faster to build two new aircraft from scratch but no, Trump knew better because he always claims he is an expert on everything. The USAF will be stuck with a one off airplane that does not meet even minimal requirements for presidential safety, security or standards. Boeing's incompetence is clear, sure. No big surprise this decade. However, Air Force One in its current state is more than adequate and perhaps the most maintained aircraft in the world.
The irony of burning down the country economically and socially and all you can do is whine and kick about not having a pretty new airplane.
Follow the dollars. As I recall it is a fixed price contract. Boeing is hurting and not in much of position to just through money at the project. While it is a high profile project it is still just another project. Airplanes are highly integrated machines, much different from remodeling a house. The door you see the president walk out of in the lower part of the airplane is not standard. You don't just chop a hole in the plane and call it good. There is a lot of structure involved, which adds weight and begins to conflict with various requirements. Then there is all the electronics which drive other EM interferences. As DC Guy said, it would have been better to build from ground up instead of trying to remodel. Then you have the FAA and Air Force highly scrutinizing every detail. This scrutiny is even more so after the 737Max debacle.
If there is such an urgent demand for the planes, the government should open the check book and make it happen. Nothing solves a time crunch better than throwing dollars at the problem.

I would be surprised to see this new aircraft being used for international trips, it’s going to be used for “flagship” domestic trips that plays well when AF1 lands at LAX for F.IFA and Olympics where the chance of a missle attack is less of an issue compared to a trip to Tel Aviv.

These are all troubling but they are primarily optical. The important thing in any administration is to follow the money and look at the real-world effects of policy and personnel. (e.g., we hear about some troubling family separations and deportations; they were initiated during Biden.)

100 days is a benchmark because that's the honeymoon period. It tends to be when presidents get the most and most important legislation of their terms done. Trump spent that time firing federal workers, raging about DEI, and crashing the stock market. Sure things are likely to stabilize, but as long as he continues to act the way he has been, nothing is getting better.
Your post should have been about Boeing’s incompetence, rather than questioning Trump finding a temporary solution. At least Trump has a solution.
Real Incompetence is that in 4 years Biden didn’t do sh!t about it, or about anything else.
The contract with Boeing is a fixed cost contract. Boeing eats the overrun unless the gov't asks for changes.
They are until they aren't. All Boeing has to do is threaten to walk away once whatever contractual penalties are less expensive than continuing the program at their expense, and the federal government will renegotiate because they have no choice.
They need the planes; the existing ones are over 30 years old and parts are becoming scarce. For political reasons they can hardly outsource the job to Airbus (not like they produce planes in this size range anymore). And they can't let Boeing bankrupt themselves on this project given all of the other government contracts they have (like the KC-46, T-7, F-47, etc.).
It might take the form of extra payments on another program to shore up Boeing's finances rather than officially walking back the fixed-cost contract, but overall the US government can't let Boeing fail, so they'll be on the hook for all of Boeing's cost overruns one way or another.
