Planning a trip to Italy. The family really needs to take a day flight from Boston because not everyone can sleep on the plane. I know about the British Airways day flight, but are there other day flights with good business class that go during the day? Our end destination is in Italy, but we have to connect anyways.
@pl15 Unfortunately I believe British Airways currently operates the only daytime flight across the Atlantic from Boston. I sure do love those flights!
At present the only morning North America departures to Western Europe are to LHR from BOS and JFK.
JFK-LHR has morning services from BA, AA, VS, and B6
BOS-LHR has a morning service from BA
There is also Icelandair 634 to Reykjavik, 1:10 pm departure, 10:20 pm arrival. But it looks like it was a 1x weekly flight, and today was the last flight of the season. Another option is Azores 220 to Ponta Delgada, 11:45 am to 8:50 pm. Both would require an overnight connection. Both might be worth a stopover for a couple of days.
Or you could pretend you are @lucky and fly to Italy via Tokyo 🙂 Two daytime flights (JAL and ITA), overnight in Tokyo.
Obviously not sure where you are going, but the 4:50pm BOS flight to Rome should still be an option. Of course it's better if you can get an hour or two of sleep on it, but it's a flight that basically lands a little after midnight US time. So if you are not expecting to sleep much on the plane (it's a ~5pm departure after all), you can try to sleep for the last 2 hours or whatever of that flight, get to Rome, get a morning hotel room (book a hotel from the night before), take another 3 hour nap or whatever, and then connect to whatever your final destination is in Italy that afternoon.
Just another option - I love daytime TATL flights though, so not trying to dissuade you at all!
Indeed it'a BA only for dayflight BOS-LHR, but since you mentioned a good business class and if that extends to the seat the BA 772 have Club World suites. The food I find so-so on BA generally, but at least you can sleep in a good seat.
There is an additional day time flight from JFK:
- Turkish TK112 JFK to IST on Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
Additionally, there are a few options from Canada:
- Air Canada AC2080 Halifax (YHZ) to London (LHR) daily, and
- Air Transat TS622 Montreal (YUL) to Nantes (NTE) on Saturdays only.
The Air Transat flight is the only day time flight which goes to continental Europe, AFAIK.
Then there are also Royal Air Maroc (AT) day time flights from JFK and YUL to Casablanca (CMN).
Speaking of daytime flights to Europe (using points), Frequent Miler just published a decent resource on this recently:

There's also the seasonal Air Saint Pierre flight FSP-CDG, departing at 10:20 a.m., arriving at 08:05 p.m.
United has one from EWR to LHR too.
