Review: Amex Restaurant Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN)

Ben, how do you find out about something like this? Like for Amex Plats you know you get Plaza Premium and Priority Pass so you can look up lounges on those websites. This "lounge" is neither, so what resource do you use to know it's an option for those with Plats? Thanks!

I visited twice earlier this month. Both times were in the morning when it was quite busy. There was a line of customers waiting to be seated leading from the stairs to the reception desk. It was humourous to watch the hostess politely, yet slightly mockingly, inform entitled people who pushed their way to the front that yes all of these people had Platinum or Centurion cards and they would just have to go to the back and wait their turn for free food. Overall, I agree with your review. The menu and presentation are simple, but with enough quality to be nice. It's not quite right if you're looking for somewhere to work for a couple hours, but it's great for a quick bite to eat. The concept would be great if Amex expanded it to other airports.

I couldn't find it, and the express lane through security was longer than the regular lane

I was there in mid May and was anxious to see what this "Amex lounge" consisted of. I was flying Icelandair Saga Premium so had access to the SAS lounge (Icelandair has an agreement with them like how I could go to the BA lounge at JFK). I registered at the Amex desk, walked in, took one look around and left. It was packed and frankly I wasn't interested in ordering off a menu when I was about to get on a 3 1/2 flight back to Iceland with meal service (Icelandair's Saga Premium (aka first or business) class food and drink are very good - seat doesn't lay down but not an issue for 3-6 hour flights which are almost all of theirs). I went to the SAS lounge and had a couple of drinks and a few light snacks then boarded my flight. Frankly, I guess this is good in concept but odd for Amex to through something like this at a secondary European airport at least IMHO and wouldn't be surprised if it goes away completely when the restaurant closes.

@AJ = absolutely. Also assume everyone knows that Amex bought "lounge buddy" and it is now incorporated into the Amex app. Simply click "Membership" at the bottom and then "Airport Lounge Access" under "Travel and Experience". I still have the old Lounge Buddy app but frankly should delete it since Amex has taken that and also incorporated all the lounges I have access to in their Global Lounge Collection and obviously the Centurion Lounges

I have used the AMEX room at Pontus in the Air for years, and have found it to be so consistently enjoyable. A truly hidden gem, it's something I look forward to every time I am in the Stockholm airport (~5 times per year as an American living in London with a big family in Sweden). I'm so happy you discovered this, and so sad that it may be going away 🙁

Did you mean the lounge is hard to miss or isnt hard to miss with the bright green signs ?

Also not sure why you would visit an airport restaurant if you didn't want to order something off the menu, very weird.

Yes, this restaurant is well hidden until you happen to walk past it, and then it is obvious . I enjoyed our very Swedish food inspired experience and excellent wines. It is a great example of how to run a wine bar style bistro.. relaxed with brisk and friendly service.

New Pontus restaurant including AMEX space will open late March and closer to F Gates.

Definitely the best food of any airport lounge I'd ever been to at Pontus. Loved when they had the Wallenbergare and köttbullar for lunch/dinner. Fantastic quality. Seems they shrank the menu though compared to when it first opened.

Anyway, hope the new venture is a success when it opens...

The new Amex lounge by Pontus Frithof opens at Arlanda on 4th April. The preview images look great.
