I've tried to book Gulf Air awards by phone with Asia Miles on multiple occasions, and have been told every time that award seats are not available for the flights I wanted, despite ExpertFlyer showing award availability. Any potential workarounds?

Seems like you have quoted the oneworld award chart using asiamiles. It does not apply to Gulf Air. Instead, the standard, two-sector max one way chart should apply. Partners now do not have a chart but usually awards involving partners are 5,000 miles more expensive (one-way).

They must have come a long way indeed. Last time I flew with them was a return trip about 8 years back to and from DXB and the best way to describe the experience was indifferent chaos on a soapbox with wings. To me there were a bit like the ugly duckling of the middle east.

Happy to hear it's becoming a swan, though. 🙂
