Aer Lingus was supposed to launch transatlantic flights out of Manchester as of July 2021. In June, the airline announced that these routes would be delayed until at least September. Now it has been announced that the routes will be delayed even further, with US routes scheduled to launch no earlier than December 2021.

Funny how all the Americans said that once Trump goes America will become more open to the world and it’s traditional allies again. I can see why the EU and U.K. is starting to get angry about the border situation, especially when even vaccinated Europeans are not being allowed into America. Europe also has a higher vaccination rate now than the states.

It’s surprised me that even under Biden America continues to get more insular and protectionist that it’s ever been in modern history. The new President isn’t as rude or direct, but policies so far internationally have mostly been a continuation of the Trump Administration.

Totally forgot about this route. It'll be welcome when it launches, I have family closer to MAN than LHR and flights with connections are too much of a headache with extra covid rules to connect in Europe right now.

I can't see this opening in December either, cases are going to creep up a bit as we go into winter surely. What a mess, the travel bans now are just a relic from 18 months ago - they might have made sense then when the whole world closed up, but now we have Americans crossing the Atlantic relatively freely, yet Europeans are arbitrarily locked out.

I've seen stories of British people doing two weeks in Turkey or Mexico so they become eligible to enter the USA which just shows what a complete load of nonsense the travel ban is, there's nothing remotely scientific to justify it now.

I’m looking forward to this route as I live close to MAN. Will be really interested in seeing any great points or cash deals for Xmas.

Yes, and it’s not right that Americans who are fully vaccinated can now travel freely to Europe, and it’s not working the other way for Europeans.

Same, I had some friends who spent two weeks in Thailand so they could attend the US Open!

Wife and I flew Manchester to Orlando 8th Jan 22 on A330 budiness class. Plane was roughly 30% full. Facilities, food and services were very good (8 out of 10) and much better than Heathrow to San Diego with BA (6) but not as good as Emirates Manchester to Australia on A380 (10).
