Chasing the Sun: Cathay Pacific First Class Hong Kong to San Francisco

Tks again for your report.
I flew last wednesday from HKG to FRA in F CX.

While it was a smooth flight, I really tend to prefer the TG crew, the catering but I do prefer the suite on the 77W. The Ife is to me outdated with CX.

Since you have experienced the cirus in J, I'm looking forward to hearing from you abt the NF with BA.

Maybe I'm wrong but I can't see the gap btw.

A single gate in the A terminal? Sucks for Alaska pax who wanted to use the (admittedly small) Board Room in T1 to get some pancakes!

@ Thomas -- Funny enough that's what I've always thought BA F looked like, so now I'm really curious to try it out and experience it firsthand.

I'm dithering on business or first on Cathay next week to Hong Kong. I don't mind the points. The positive differentiator for me is food and amenities. The negative differentiator is the cabin temperature. My last Cathay flight in first was too hot to sleep and there are no air jets. None in business either but seems to be a bit cooler. I cannot not sleep on a flight that long without being extremely fatigued the first day or two after arrival. How was yours?

To me, this seems more "coincidental" than "ironic."

Ironically enough we pulled in right next to the Alaska plane we’d be flying to Seattle, despite the fact we’d first have to clear customs and go to terminal one to get our boarding passes.

Lucky, I've always wondered how you guys manage to snap pictures during landing and takeoff, don't they specifically prohibit electronics from being used during these times? enlighten me...

I'm far from a wine connoisseur and would like some opinions. I have an upcoming HKG-LAX flight in CX F.

Everyone laughs at me because I drink Moscatos no matter the meal. An occasional Roscato with a steak if I'm feeling crazy.

Hmm.. Sounds like my trip. Service nothing special, menu exactly the same... Have you ever noticed the pjs dye other clothes in the laundry?

@ CVG_Kid -- Temperature was surprisingly decent for most of the flight, and I'm someone that usually notices warm cabins...

@ John -- Hah, fair enough. 😀

@ Todd -- Sure, in the same way the speed limit is 55 and I'll drive 56. The fact is that it has been proven time and again that a simple non-transmitting camera presents no danger to the safety of an aircraft. Beyond that I've never found a crew to have an issue with it.

@ Jeff -- Yes, I've found that to be the case with most airline pajamas. Always wash them separately.

I'm flying this route in FC in February, albeit the midnight departure flight.

Do you think the dinner service will be any different given the uber late departure?

I agree with John. Irony is mis-used all the time.

Almost as much as COULD care less.

Newbie question but when you request a turn down service do you tell them and then get up to go change? Or they just know when to do it?

Just recently flew back from HKG myself (on DL), and started watching "The Watch." Made it through about 15 minutes before turning it off and settling on National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. MUCH better!

Though be careful washing Asiana PJs as those puppies SHRINK.

Given a choice of SQ F vs CX F, which would you go for?

@ Jason -- I believe it's a slightly more abbreviated service, though not by much. Maybe it's just not salad and soup, but rather one or the other. But I could be wrong.

@ Benny -- Sometimes they offer it proactively, though usually I ask them to do it and then go to brush my teeth or freshen up for bed, and it's ready when I get back.

@ DiscoPapa -- LOL!

@ Kai -- They're both top products, and I think it comes down to the individual crew. One day Singapore will be better, the other day Cathay Pacific will be better. I think they're two of the best airlines out there...

Great pics of the SFO approach! I always try to get a good one on the way home but maybe the view from coach just isnt as good...haha ;p

I was on CX888 earlier this month and my pajamas was blue and white (on both the HKG-YVR and YVR-JFK flights). I love the color scheme on yours. Do you know if Cathay offers certain colors on certain routes?

@mangoceviche - On my CX888 flight the pajamas were red. Like lucky's picture.

I flew CX F for the first time last week and found the seats to be too hard for sleeping. The little pad thing they put on top of the seat doesn't do much.

Lucky - just got off CX F myself, exact same menu. However, my steak looked nothing like the one you had in the picture - all the sides were spaced out, not lumped together. Sure you have the right pic?

@ UA-NYC -- Keep in mind the crews plate the meals aboard, so they could've had a different "interpretation."

I wouldn't be surprised if the same crew didn't plate it differently every once in a while either...just to break up the routine and monotony.

When are you going to introduce us to your 'friend' Lucky? 😉
