AA must have scored a killer deal on California white wine AKA cougar juice. My stomach is in knots at the thought of all that nasty chardonnay. Give them credit though - they know the audience. I'm sure that stuff will be a hit at DFW.
First, the good news, the red wine selection in the Flagship Dining lists looks very good. The bad news, the AA labeled Veloce Rosso and Veloce Bianco, I’m quite certain or neither Italian sourced (in spite of the names) nor are they very good and most probably what we describe in the California wine business as “shiners,” very low quality wine bottled en masse for personal labels purchased or sold to anyone willing to buy them, i.e., restaurants, for weddings, stores, celebrities, airlines, etc.
Wonder how many times Krug will appear on this page after few days of comments.
I don’t like the Besserat one bit, I’d rather drink a Prosecco Millesimaro, or Cartizze at a lower cost basis. Similar or higher, I’d go with Franciacorta.
So American should try to fix their dirt old planes and get rid of that CEO idiot instead of worrying about what $5 bottle of wine to serve people.
Impressive list. I would be surprised if the Veloce Rosso and Veloce Bianco are not from Italy since Bobby Stuckey's hugely popular Scarpetta line of wines are all from Italy. I do wish I could taste them at sea level since it makes a difference.
Obviously Krug is great (+1 for Eskimo). The real sleeper is the freaking Bruno Giacosa in DFW. I guess that’s the compensation for having to fly through that airport.
I don't care if a bottle of wine retails for $5. What is important is does it taste good on the ground in the air.
There was a kerfuffle on the BA flyer talk board earlier this year when it was revealed that a wine was retailing for £5 a bottle in a UK super market and how awful it was. Turns out the £5 was for a half bottle and those that had tasted it thought it was a good wine to drink. It was those that hadn't tasted it who objected the most.
And I am always suspicious of these master sommeliers. They often rely on the label not the taste as proven by blind tastings where they rate the same wine differently depending if they can see the label or not. How can a wine be wonderful with a label but awful when it's poured from a bottle with the label hidden??
I would not fly AA based on the lack of maintenance oversight - pushing mechanics to overlook items that make equipment not legal to fly.....
