American Airlines has just announced that it will be completely changing the concept for its Flagship First Dining facilities, as the airline eliminates international first class. These will simply become Flagship Dining facilities, and thats totally awesome, as business class passengers will also have access. Well done, American!
That's great news! AA is really playing the game to become premium. This last year or so, actual and announced improvements has hopefully started to move the needle for AA.
Notably, though, business class passengers will still not have access to a la carte dining at JFK, though Delta passengers do at the Delta One lounge and United passengers at EWR do at the Polaris lounge
@ JPS -- Yeah, it's funny, because they got rid of Flagship First Dining (now there's the Chelsea Lounge and Soho Lounge), and turned it into a new setup with a brewery and more. I'm curious if we now see the lounge go back closer to the old setup, since there's certainly space for it, and the furniture is still there.
Good. I've been whining for years now how LAX Flagship First Dining has been closed. Reopening it and allowing Business Class to enjoy seems like a better move than keeping it closed indefinitely.
I wish I could post photos in the comments, but the best food I've ever had in a lounge was easily in the DFW Flagship First dining room. The cornbread and burgers were absolutely delicious along with the wine list they had at the time.
Cool-Perhaps we'll also see some introduction of barista-made coffee options?

Will BA business class passengers have access?
@ David -- As I understand it, the answer is no. But if I get any information to the contrary, I'll be sure to report back.
I’m flying AA J through LAX in January and I was planning to visit the QF First lounge (will be OWE by then). Now I’ll have to decide whether to check out Flagship Dining instead. Hopefully some reviews will help me decide before then.
If they restrict dining only to AA J customers and not other OW J and elite members, maybe that’ll help keep overcrowding to a minimum?
@ Samar -- It should definitely help, but I imagine during peak periods there will still be a wait. Flagship First Dining maybe typically has a dozen tables, while you might sometimes have 100+ business class passengers in a lounge. Anyway, it'll be interesting to see!
If that’s the case I’d expect it to be pretty busy for my evening flight. Think I’ll stop at the QF First lounge and then come back to see if something’s available (though I probably don’t need to eat that much!)
How will this work in JFK?
@ George -- There's nothing planned for JFK as of now, as I understand it. Those lounges are technically different, since they're joint AA and BA lounges. The old Flagship First Dining facility is still in the Greenwich Lounge, at least physically, so I'm curious if we see something brought back eventually.

Fly AA, then. The Oneworld agreement doesn't oblige them to offer it to alliance pax, so why would they? Besides which, why the hell would anyone waste calories on AA lounge dining when they have a JL first class lunch in their immediate future?
So why would you want to eat in a lounge when you have a multi-course Japanese banquet with matching premium sake to enjoy on the flight that leaves around midday? It's not logical, captain; unless you're one of those travellers who'll choose the steak and ketchup served with a Pabst Blue Ribbon over that "Asian food" every time?
That would be a huge loss to BA/CX/JL F to not be able to get in to what used to be a dining concept they could access. I feel like there will be a carve out for BA F to still be able to use the 3 FFD's (or 2 if LA doesnt re open).
Btw you JL11 flight leaves too early so you wouldnt be able to use FFD anyways. I believe depending on the season it can leave from 1030am to 12pm and FFD wont open until 12pm.
BA F gets access at DFW and MIA already and still does.
And BA has access to Qantas F at LAX.
Clearly they will be changing the hours for the dining concept by the time it opens on September 15th since they are advertising that people on Hawaii flights will be eligible for it and those leave in the morning or early afternoon.
There was a wait for FF Miami dining last March ahead of the LHR, GRU & EZE flights. So it’s gonna get crowded AF
At least there’s also that relatively new British Airways lounge at E20 (opened late 2025), so oneworld sapphire/emerald and business class do have more options at MIA terminals D/E.
My guess is that the dining experience will be watered down compared to what was offered as Flagship First Dining.
A "California" dish . . . but they're still not going to open up FFD at LAX. Going on seven years now. Isom wants to move up-market but is unwilling to give the customer the service that is embedded in the price. An unmet promise. Just like "every aircraft ready to fly at the start of every day."
That is, I'll believe LAX opens when I see it. I spoke with a manager there. She said there was doubt about it reopening. Thus, I said . . .

Yeah. Sorry for the confusion. Which is why I needed to caveat my original comment with "I'll believe it when I see it." They've been saying that for years and a manager at LAX told me they were actually looking at permanently closing it. Cost savings. Which is the America West mantra.
Any idea what will happen to the QR code a la carte service AA introduced at Flagship Lounges in March? Will that close down in line with this new Flagship Dining service opening?

With the eventual elimination of international and transcon first class, I figured they had to something but this was a bit surprising. I expected it to possibly become Global Services (and maybe Ex Plat/Emerald) only lounges for those routes. Nice to hear LAX will open back up.
Are bots on OMAAT now? Global Services is United status and has nothing to do with AA.
Concierge Key would be the AA status.
