Thanks Andrew for the hint, it sounds very interesting. I had similar ones at Budapest airport, but DCA should be the next level.
I noticed that the registration number on the aircraft in the photos is N317PG. For as long as I can remember, all AA aircraft registrations ended in "AA". I checked the FAA registration data, and I see this plane is registered as owned by AA, not a lease, and never registered to a previous owner. Do you, as an avgeek, know the significance of the "PG" in the registration?
Also if you look up that registration number on FlightAware, the info provided said it was in BWI that day, not DCA. So strange all around.
And, I must say, AA runs a fairly 'meh' operation at DCA. You see quite a few delays/cancellations when other carriers are mostly on-time (thinking some recent summer rain events, etc.) Also the picture of the AA club reminds me: their 2 clubs at DCA are really kind of shabby. Go check out the greatly improved DL lounge in Terminal B. They really did a nice job and it is now miles ahead of either AA club at DCA.
