Here’s something that’s both tragic because of the death and injuries, and unfortunate due to the timing, as it came just a day after the terminal reopened.

Kuwait Airport attacked: fatality and severe damage
On Tuesday, June 2, 2026, Kuwait International Airport (KWI) was the target of an Iranian missile attack, which caused absolutely massive damage to Terminal 1, the airport’s flagship terminal.
Worst of all is that there was one fatality and over 60 injuries. Beyond that, though, the terminal has been severely damaged, and the scenes from inside look awful.
While Kuwait temporarily closed its airspace following the attack, the airspace has already reopened. The airport is even operational again, though only from other terminals.
The timing of the Kuwait Airport attack is kind of wild
In late February 2026, around the start of the conflict with Iran, Kuwait Airport was attacked in a similar missile strike. That caused damage, and as a result, the terminal has been closed for over three months.
We finally saw Kuwait Airport reopen Terminal 1 on Monday, June 1, 2026, and there were all kinds of celebrations to commemorate that… only for the same terminal to be attacked again the next day.
This situation highlights the incredibly challenging realities of the war for the aviation sector. As it impacts airlines in the Gulf region, they obviously want to operate flights as much as possible, since simply shutting down your airspace and airlines for many months on end is not exactly practical.
At the same time, it’s very hard to balance that with safety, when the conflict is so unpredictable, and Iran is attacking nearby countries in order to create chaos.
Bigger picture, the issue is that we’re in a conflict with no obvious exit strategy. It doesn’t seem like President Trump actually has a plan. He obviously thought the Iranian regime would just surrender without putting up a fight, but… that’s not exactly what has happened.
Though Trump is also under the impression that he’s getting along quite well with the Ayatollah.
Meanwhile Secretary of State Marco Rubio is claiming that the war is actually over.
Bottom line
While the past several weeks have been relatively calm when it comes to Gulf airline operations, that all changed this week, when Iran escalated its attacks on nearby countries. On Tuesday, we saw Iran attack Kuwait Airport, causing major damage, and even a fatality and dozens of injuries.
The wildest part of this story is that the attack came just one day after Terminal 1 reopened, following the late February attack on the terminal, which also caused a lot of damage. One thing is for sure — it’s not just smooth sailing for Gulf carriers hereon out, and this conflict is far from over.
What do you make of this Kuwait Airport attack?
Ben, you got so lucky routing through ME in April. Honestly, it's off-limits for me for a while, and I used to transit DOH, DXB, etc. a lot. I'll give it at least a year (but it could be longer).
Should highlight the major reason why this attack also happened. The Israelis are forcing to stall or scuttle this negotiations, highlighted by the fact that Trump had an intense call with Netanyahu yesterday where he berated him after Israelis started a new offensive into southern Lebanon when the US and Iranian were reaching a deal which caused the Iranians to suspend talks and announced new offensives

It is pretty clear we have a Prez who is completely clueless and thinks the world is a game of Civilization 6 and an Israeli gov who are hellbent on escalating this war to no end because it is either that or the end of Netanyahu
I mean, Trump is also claiming that he's talking to the Iranians and is close to a deal, and then the Iranians say he isn't and they aren't. Even if the Israelis were completely hands off at this point, the war would still be going because Trump is demanding things from Iran that only a ground invasion and occupation could enforce at this point.
Truth. Everything that Nethenyau does is to keep him out of jail. He and Trump are one and the same. Both corrupt.
My parents reported that the explosions last night were the loudest they had been since the start of the war.
I guess, my trip to Kuwait this Summer isn’t happening anymore. :(
Time to book that Qatar Qsuites redemption
Let me know when you find inventory from the west coast. There could be (simultaneously) a war, hantavirus outbreak and active military incursion and Qatar won't release those seat awards...
Andrew is right. So stingy!
But how long is the wait to get into lounge? And can I still use my Amex platinum to do so?
LOL! #priorities
