If you’re scheduled to travel through Washington National Airport (DCA) next Saturday (in a little over a week), you may want to reconsider your plans…
In this post:
Washington National Airport delays on June 14, 2025
On Saturday, June 14, 2025, there will be a big parade in Washington DC, to celebrate the Army’s 250th birthday, coinciding with Trump’s 79th birthday. The celebration is scheduled to include flights by 50 Army helicopters above a military parade with tanks and troops. The Army’s Golden Knights will even parachute onto the Ellipse, near the White House, to present an American flag to Trump.
As you might expect, an event of this size will have implications for airline operations as well. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has briefed the airport on tentative plans, which reportedly call for significant disruptions between 6PM and 9:30PM.
The FAA forecasts that roughly 100 flights will be held at their departure airports, and could be delayed for an average of nearly three hours. A limited number of departures could be allowed after 8:45PM, if winds allow planes to leave the airport to the south. Currently, there are 65 arrivals and 35 departures scheduled between 6PM and 10PM on the evening of June 14.
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority has warned passengers scheduled to fly through the airport on the evening of June 14 to check the status of their flights directly with airlines. As of now, airlines continue to have flights scheduled for that evening.
Per a statement from the MWAA, “to accommodate aircraft flyovers along the parade route, followed by a fireworks display, the Federal Aviation Administration is expected to suspend airline operations at DCA — affecting scheduled flights.”
The White House has released a statement saying that “thousands of Americans will attend the Army’s 250th Birthday Parade, which will be a grand event that powerfully honors our military men and women, including those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom,” and that “reasonable considerations will be made to ensure their safety.”

At least this is on a Saturday evening, I guess?
It’s not unusual to see airports temporarily close for important events, but typically those closures are for minutes, and not hours. This is the longest closure I recall seeing at Washington National Airport in quite some time, with the exception of the American Eagle and Black Hawk helicopter crash we saw earlier this year.
If there’s any silver lining, at least this is taking place on a Saturday night, which is probably the lowest traffic period at the airport. The problem is that the exact plans remain fluid, or else you’d think that airlines would try to cancel some flights, to ease the inconvenience for passengers.
Then again, the challenge is that canceling flights to and from the airport would have a domino effect for other flights, given how complex aircraft scheduling is.

Bottom line
On Saturday, June 14, 2025, we’re going to see a big military parade and celebration in Washington. This will impact operations for airlines, as flights are expected to be held between 6PM and 9:30PM. Roughly 100 flights could be impacted, so if you’re scheduled to travel through the airport then, don’t be surprised if there are some delays and cancelations.
Trump has been impressed by French national day military parade on July 14th. The idea comes from here. Same think for Musk. Some people said that he's a genius. He just made in place ideas from the 60's and 70's that he read when he was a child as I did.
Wannabe dictator. Absolutely pathetic.
Oh come on Ben. I don’t even care about American politics but even I can see your bias here. What’s next, Are we going to say July 4th celebrations are in honor of Post Malone’s birthday? The Macy’s Thanksgiving parade in honor of Scarlett Johansson? Come on now.
The TDS is strong on here! I can't wait to enjoy my popcorn and watch the next 3 1/2 years. Hopefully many of you libs will finally decide to leave or stroke out. America is getting back to what it used to be (and should be). We have been too caught up in culture issues and not focused on defense, law and order and the stock market. That is all that really matters in life.
And I hope you lose all the money in your retirement account and have to spend the rest of your days begging for a government handout.
Lucky - It is REAGAN National Airport. Call it by the proper name please!
No, not anymore. Officially changed the name years ago
Military parades are popular in many authoritarian regimes such as China, Russia and the United States.
President Bone-Spurs might not even show if his feet are too sore.
Especially if it rains. Wouldn't want to ruin his wig.
Same day he will announce Dulles is being renamed DJTIA?
Oh congress is working on it; a HR has already been filed.
Mount Rushmore, the WMATA being named the "Trump Train"
With all the problems in the world, this is what they have time for...
They're presenting an American flag to him? And the ceremony is culminating not at the Pentagon, or at Arlington National Cemetery, or at the site of a landmark battle of our armed forces...but on his temporary front lawn? And for this, thousands of people have to be materially inconvenienced?
This parade will be as much about America's armed forces as the movie "Reservoir Dogs" was about canines.
You're missing the point.
Not defending Trump but Arlington National Cemetery, or at the site of a landmark battle of our armed forces are for Memorial day or Veterans day.
Like other nations' military parade, it's about show of force. We need to march along the capital with WMDs ICBMs stealth tanks, space lasers, etc.
Nothing cooler thank Trump riding on a nuke like in the movie.
You didn't see how that movie ended, did you?
Enough of the political hysteria, it's embarrassing. The parade is to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the Armed Forces. In 1775, the United States Army was established by Congress.
What's embarassing is that people like you don't realize that the Cheetoh will make it ALL about him. He always does. He could care less about the Armed Forces. He's a draft dodger, remember???
Don't forget suckers and losers.
He compares his sacrifices to those who served.
Look at how he treated John McCain, H.R. McMaster, Mark Milley, and other veterans who've served.
Look at his church photo-op in the summer of 2020. I mean who does that?!
It's all for show. Both literally and figuratively.
You think Trump cares about that? The last time he talked about the creation of the US Army, he celebrated them taking over Cornwallis' airports
This is absolutely sickening
They should close it for a huge Pride Parade.
The Musk Trump divorce makes that regime even more of an embarrassment. Popcorn is in short supply.
I must add, the decision to rename the Harvey Milk vessel is an absolute abomination. He was a hero, and also served in the navy.
Are we GREAT again yet?
That sure is a lot of effort trying to link Trump, who never served in the Army especially Vietnam, with the Army.
Why not celebrate national cucumber day when we're on this. At least cucumber is green like the Army, more connection than Trump has with the Army.
The ‘colonials’ are revolting and all because someone thinks that the article is acceptable click-bait.
Remember DCA was closed for several months after 9/11/2001 - with discussion to permanently close it. Are the airlines offering a waiver - to change flight for no fee - like a weather waiver?
The post-9/11 closure was just over 3 weeks, not "several months"

The orange Mussolini is going to have his military parade. Taco Day!

What's sad is that some on the list still suck up to him and kiss ass.
now those are funny
wow. you are so consumed by TDR you keep an list and took the time to write it all out? I feel sorry for you
@John
So just to be clear, you do support blowing tens of millions of taxpayer dollars on a vanity parade for the Convict in Chief? Because it seems like you do. If so, why is fluffing his ego money well spent but fighting diseases elsewhere before they can end up here (CDC and USAID gutting) a waste?
Happy Birthday Mr. President!
There's no recollection of a parade on the Army's 200th birthday when Ford (not Ben's husband) was president in 1975. Coincidentally, the notable parade that year was the 1975 October Revolution Parade in the Soviet Union.
Anyway, once again, Trump cares about image, how people look at him. Apparently to him, these parades make him look tough.
And he wants to lecture people on cutting government waste?!
There are other ways to honor the Army...

There are other ways to honor the Army along with the other branches without the pomp and circumstance. But look at the messages he spouts on Memorial and Veterans Day, the speech he made at West Point.
What the big deal? Why not just have 50 Army helos overflying DCA while it’s in operation?
Let’s celebrate our men and women who served this country right after we strip the names of Americans off the ships of our military.
All right Lucky, I'm politically neutral but you clearly chose a title to stir the political pot. It gives appearance the Army is putting on a parade for Trumps birthday. While I read the article and I knew beforehand from other media reports, the parade is simply taking place on Trump's birthday.
@ Mitch -- I don't know how you're coming to that conclusion? Trump is the person who is behind the festivities, and it's for the Army's birthday. I didn't say the airport is closing for "Trump's Birthday Army Parade," I said it's closing for "Trump's Army Birthday Parade."
@Ben Let’s be real, if the parade was happening on any other day than the president’s birthday, then it wouldn’t be happening at all. To suggest otherwise is disingenuous at best and delusional at worst.
For the record, Trump had previously expressed a desire to have a parade in honor of his birthday.
“Politically neutral” = dictator tolerant
Another libtard throwing around catch words like dictator, nazi, etc. If you dont like Trump , fine but don't sound like a petulant child that likes to just hurl insults
@John
Remind me, who was the last President to hold a military parade in his own honor? If this is acceptable to you, maybe you'd be happier living in Russia or the DPRK. I hear they love military parades over there.
He’s a narcissistic mendacious troglodyte. Everything has to be about him.
Will he last 4 years. Hopefully not.
From the guy who uses the word Libtard. Oy.
“Politically neutral” = see through the propaganda
@Mitch
You are at best a credulous idiot and at worst a duplicitous MAGAt you're spouting Trump's claim that it's for the army and his birthday is only coincidentally the same day. Think this way, would the Army get a parade if it's birthday DIDN'T coincide with Trump's? Where's the Navy, Marines, Air Force, or Coast Guard parades if that's the case?
Completely un-American behavior, but who's surprised? The Republican party is dead, and the MAGAts who destroyed it want to turn this country into a tin-pot dictatorship.
If the Republican Party is dead, how are they in control of the White House, Senate and House? (And Supreme Court) The Democrat party is the dead one. You have no leaders.
Having said that, I think most of us are ready for a third party.
@Brian1000
Are you so blind that the "R" next to the name fools you? I thought the Republican party was all about responsible spending, small Federal government, rule of law, and family values.
But the entire party is bending over backward for a senile clown that:
1. Is blowing up the national deficit to cut his own taxes
2. Is expanding executive power to do whatever the hell he wants with...

1. Is blowing up the national deficit to cut his own taxes
2. Is expanding executive power to do whatever the hell he wants with no checks or balances
3. Has committed multiple crimes, been convicted a felon, and been impeached multiple times
3. Is a serial adulterer
MAGA is currently in power. Not Republicans, because Republicans actually had principles, even if I didn't agree with all of those principles. MAGA has no principles.
They probably mean the Republican Party of yesteryear. Bush, Reagan, Eisenhower, et.al.
Washington was right when he said at his farewell address that political parties would destroy the nation.
Just for the record, my favorite Republicans would be Rockefeller, Pataki (NY), Lugar.
Charlie Baker (MA) and Phil Scott (VT) are the only decent ones left I can think of as well as Adam Kinzinger (IL) and Liz Cheney.
Those days are gone.
Not mentioned anywhere in the local media is whether the delayed flights will be subject to the 11pm curfew (for departures) or if exemptions will be granted. I believe arrivals are normally scheduled until 1am so there should be less of an impact to those flights.
That’s terrrible Ralph, so sorry to read about that!
I’d go myself, but I’m really torn up about my a recent breakup with my tech boyfriend. He bought me such nice things too…
Celebrating your birthday Banana Republic stylee.
Wish I could go but my bone spurs are acting up...
@Ralph4878 - that's a good one and so true. You've given me my giggle for the day!!
I’d go but I have “asthma.” Ahem
