Hyatt has just announced plans to open a new property in Argentina, and it’s one I’m looking forward to visiting. However, we’ll have to be patient.
In this post:
Basics of Casa Duhau, part of Hyatt Unbound Collection
Hyatt has revealed plans for Casa Duhau, a new Hyatt Unbound Collection property in Mendoza, Argentina. This newly built luxury property will be part of Reserva Alto Agrelo, a new development project spanning nearly 1,000 acres, and including a winery.

The hotel portion of the development will include 52 keys, comprised of 40 villas and 12 suites. The property will feature two signature restaurants, a swimming pool, a fitness center and spa, and more. There will also be 116 residential lots for sale.

Hotel construction is expected to start at the end of 2025, with an anticipated opening date in late 2027 (though I wouldn’t count on that sticking). Interestingly, the people behind this development are the same people behind the Park Hyatt Buenos Aires.
Reserva Alto Agrelo will be home to Bodega Agrelia, a premium boutique winery from winemakers Michel Rolland and Marcelo Pelleriti. There will also be Casa David – Wine & Horses, an equestrian club with an advanced facility offering a veterinary clinic and training center for horses, 24-box stable, and more.
Casa Duhau will be located around 30 minutes from the city of Mendoza, and 35 minutes from El Plumerillo International Airport (MDZ). The resort will feature panoramic views of Cordón del Plata, a mountain range in the region.
I look forward to visiting this property when it opens
I’m not necessarily the biggest wine drinker, but I do love wine regions, as they typically have beautiful scenery, and a great climate.
Argentina is a funny market for Hyatt, since there are already two Park Hyatt properties. However, they’re both very much past their prime.
The Park Hyatt Buenos Aires is still regarded as one of the city’s best properties, and has great bones. However, there’s no denying that the rooms are getting a bit dated, and need a refresh.
Meanwhile the Park Hyatt Mendoza is on a completely different level when it comes to being outdated. I visited about 15 years ago, and even then the property felt old, and I don’t believe a whole lot has been done since then. I can’t imagine it lives up to the Park Hyatt name anymore, but then again, the property is reasonably priced, typically around $200 per night.

Anyway, the new Hyatt Unbound Collection property looks like it should be beautiful, and a more modern, luxury property. I look forward to learning more details as the opening date approaches.
Bottom line
Hyatt’s Unbound Collection is coming to Argentina, with the opening of Casa Duhau in Mendoza, Argentina. This will be part of a large new development, which will also feature a winery, plus a residential community. While details remain limited, this is a hotel that I’ll be keeping on my radar.
What do you make of plans for Hyatt’s Casa Duhau?
Stayed in the Mendoza Park Hyatt last year and can attest it is, indeed, in need of a renovation. Service and breakfast were excellent but the physical property, while it has tons of potential, is beyond dated.
Park Hyatt Buenos Aires, however, was fantastic.
Agree with your verdict on the Mendoza property, where we've stayed several times on the way to/from Las Leñas. The staff and service are fantastic, but the old girl needs a facelift, for sure.
I've visited Mendoza twice over the last 2 years and stayed at the PH Mendoza. While the property and rooms are quite old, it's well maintained and the service is excellent. I'd definitely return.
Will there eventually be a soulless American chain hotel in every corner of the world?
And don't forget a McDonald's & Starbucks too !! ...while they suck the charm & ambiance dry..., lol
Before I forget, since today is Mother's Day, I thought it'd be apropos to wish your mom a Happy Mother's Day too. You mentioned in one of your reports that you made a quick trip home to visit your parents which is plural which I'm glad to hear. I know it's been a rough couple of years for you mom, but she seems to be hanging in there. I wish your mom better days ahead despite the circumstances all the best to you and your family as well.
@ Mike O. -- You're very kind, thank you so much for the thoughts! We just passed the sixth anniversary of my mom's cancer diagnosis, and we've been blessed to have so much more time with her than we were expecting. She is in hospice, and I am spending as much time with her as possible, and am so grateful for all the opportunities I've had with her. I keep trying to make the most of every day. Thanks again for the kind words.
I stayed two nights at the Palacio Duhau in January of last year and did not find the property or my room to be at all dated. For reference, I was proactively upgraded as a Globalist and my room was located in the back building. Food (breakfast both days and dinner the first night after a late arrival) and service were uniformly good. Only issue I encountered was the interior courtyard being quite buggy at...

For reference, I was proactively upgraded as a Globalist and my room was located in the back building. Food (breakfast both days and dinner the first night after a late arrival) and service were uniformly good. Only issue I encountered was the interior courtyard being quite buggy at night. The property does seem to draw an inordinate number of complaints, though I’m not sure they’re all in good faith - one Redditor ranted that they expected the hotel to be an actual palace!
