The Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles program has just launched an award redemption promotion. This has the potential to be a good deal, though the catch is that only economy redemptions are discounted, and not business class ones (unlike some past award sales we’ve seen from the program).

The 40% discount applies to economy award tickets departing from the following airports in the Americas:

The 30% discount applies to economy award tickets departing from the following airports:

There are some restrictions to be aware of:
- This is valid for bookings made between September 26 and October 2, 2024
- This is valid for travel between November 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025
- There are blackout dates of December 10, 2024, through January 15, 2025
- This applies to promotional economy award tickets (the name of Turkish Airlines’ cheapest award types)
- This is valid for travel on Turkish Airlines, whether flying one-way or roundtrip
Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles award pricing
Below you can find the Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles award chart, with all pricing being one-way and per segment (unfortunately the program was massively devalued earlier this year).
Pricing isn’t bad if you’re traveling to or from Istanbul, but the issue is that award pricing is additive, which makes the cost of connecting itineraries quite expensive.
But there are good deals to be had with these discounts. For example, a one-way award between Istanbul and North America ordinarily costs 40,000 miles, so with a 40% discount, you’d be paying just 24,000 miles. That’s a pretty awesome deal, assuming you’re happy flying economy.
How to earn Turkish Airlines miles
Turkish Airlines partners with two transferable points currencies, giving those with credit cards easy access to these miles:
- You can transfer Citi ThankYou points to Turkish Airlines at a 1:1 ratio, so you can earn Turkish miles with cards like the Citi Strata Premier℠ Card (review)
- You can transfer Capital One miles to Turkish Airlines at a 1:1 ratio, so you can earn Turkish miles with cards like the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card (review)
Bottom line
Turkish Airlines is offering a 30-40% discount on economy awards. This could be a great deal, and with this, you can fly between the United States and Istanbul for just 24,000 miles. That’s a bargain, though it is a long flight in economy, and there are definitely other ways to get deals on premium cabin awards.

Simultaneously, they are also trying to force travel agents that are able to still book via other GDS to use their own their own direct platform to avoid a $24/ticket. Other airlines have done something similar but in those cases they have always offered an alternate GDS route (NDC via GDS), since GDS is the only practical way almost all travel agencies can manage the aggregation of 100s of airlines. TK have a great hub and a nice product but they are still beset by complete incompetence at senior level.

Do you have any work around for Aeroplan issued tickets for TK as far as being able to manage the booking? TK app/site refuse to allow management of flights, even with the TK PNR and emailing them is a nightmare.
