Eff my life. I was laying in my comfortable W bed at home just a few minutes ago (shortly before 2AM) when a thought crossed my mind — “shoot, I forgot to enter the My Coke Rewards code from the Diet Coke I bought at the store today.” Coke issues rewards points with their drinks, and while they’re not super valuable I still do collect them, since I can’t bring myself to turn down any points. I ultimately convert them to Hilton Honors points, and it makes me feel a bit better about my Diet Coke addiction (which I’ve cut back on considerably the past few weeks).
I have a flight tomorrow morning, so I decided to get out of bed and go to my fridge to get the piece of cardboard that has the code on it, and go to my computer to enter it. The code is worth maybe 10 cents, so I realize I’m being totally irrational getting up it, though points make us all do irrational things.
I go to the fridge and there’s no Diet Coke. Or the milk I bought today. Or Special K I bought. And then it dawned on me — I completely forgot to take the groceries out of my car from this afternoon.
I’m not sure what’s more concerning — the fact that I completely forgot about my groceries after taking a trip exclusively to the supermarket, or the fact that I only remembered about them because of a points code worth maybe 10 cents.
Either way, I need professional help…
Anyone else read that and say to themselves, "I can get Hilton Points for MCR?" Looks like I'm about to follow in you irrationality...
You still haven't rock bottom...seek professional help when you're living on the streets and carrying around a sign that says "will work for SkyMiles."
Thank you! For those of us with a SO who doesn't get the points obsession, this story is good for a free pass on my next crazy points moment!
@ David -- ROFLMAO.
You don't need help until you have put the package with pork chops in the closet with future gifts for special occasions and have the cleaning lady ask what is that smell in the spare bedroom. sigh,,,,,,
This is too funny! We just cashed in our points for tickets to the World of Coke. Will have to start saving again. I always learn something new.
That's a little concerning but memory loss can come about from jet lag and frequent time zone upsets. As for milk, I've found it helpful to switch to evaporated canned milk during hurricane season or periods of frequent travel. It stays good un-opened indefinitely and supposedly doesn't have to be refrigerated for up to a week after opening. I use it up before that long but I can tell you from personal experience that it's...

very funny post!!!
wow you actually stayed home for once? ;)
Heh, I collect MCR points (usually to redeem for more coke products). It's not worth a lot, but it seems like a waste to throw them away. So whenever my siblings buys coke, I'd ask them to give me the code or copy down the code so I can put it in later.
I wouldn't get up in the middle of the night just to enter the code, though. :P
For a moment I thought that maybe you had forgotten you were in a hotel and not at home! Funny post.
This is awesome...had me rolling in the floor! You can just set those points on your desk, they don't expire. :-)
@ AK -- 800 MCR points gets you 1,500 HHonors points. Sadly I've maxed out Priority Club redemptions and I don't think they're even part of the program anymore.
Haha, such a great story to get the work day started off right.
I'm with @Lucky 100% about the Special K w/chocolate chips!
Late-stage points dementia.
Eek! Your work has taken over your life!!
Wait.... It is your life... ;)
great post :D
How many HHonors points do you get per MCR point? Last year, I got something like 2000 PC for 250 MCR. Cashed out about 2500 MCR for that.
So far as I'm concerned you eat Lucky Charms. Straight out of the box. With no milk. End of story. Deny it all you want but that's what I will always believe.
We all need help!
I play the my coke reward raffles for free united flights. Hasn't paid off yet...
@ Vinny V -- Have you had Special K with chocolate chips? That $*&^ is better than Lucky Charms!
You buy Special K?
Please tell me it's for wife/girlfriend/female roommate-guest.
Just don't drink the milk, OK?
