Wow, Cathay Pacific must really be suffering!

We all know Cathay Pacific is suffering in this economy, especially since they rely heavily on premium traffic. I’ve read reports that say their premium traffic is down as much as 25%, which can’t be good.

Over the weekend I was doing some planning for my first class OneWorld award to Asia which is coming up in two months, including booking hotels, getting seat assignments, etc. I’m constantly monitoring the availability on YYZ-HKG, which is a 777-300ER with just six first class seats. Since I’ll be traveling with my dad that leaves only four seats, and the flight still shows as being “F4,” which means no other seats have been sold. What I found most interesting is that Cathay Pacific has released two more award seats on that flight! That means 2/3 of the first class cabin could be taken up by award passengers, if anyone else even books. As much as I love the Star Alliance, that’s something we’d never see on Singapore Airlines. Heck, we can’t even get award seats in their new premium product, period.
