Resort At Pedregal Becoming Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos

Resort At Pedregal Becoming Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos

This is super exciting.

While Hilton has a huge global portfolio, historically one of the issues they’ve had is that they’ve been lagging in the luxury market. They don’t have as many “aspirational” properties as Marriott and Hyatt, in my opinion.

The good news is that Hilton has been working really hard to change that, especially with the opening or rebranding of several Waldorf Astoria properties. For example, the upcoming Waldorf Astoria Maldives is likely to be the most high-end property they have.

This makes Hilton more tempting than ever before, between their excellent points earning rates for hotel stays, and also how easy they make it to earn top tier Diamond status with their lucrative Aspire Card.

We can soon expect yet another property to join the Waldorf Astoria collection, which is awesome. This will also be the brand’s first property in Mexico.

The Resort at Pedregal will be rebranded as the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos in the fourth quarter of 2019. This is generally regarded as one of the best hotels in Los Cabos (though there are several new luxury hotels opening there, including a Four Seasons and an Aman).

Global Head of Waldorf Astoria had the following to say regarding this acquisition:

“As the brand’s first property to debut in Mexico, Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal showcases the brand’s commitment to expanding our luxury portfolio to some of the world’s most sought after destinations. We look forward to combining the resort’s exclusive environment and guest-focused comforts with the brand’s unparalleled commitment to personal service, and together, ensuring our guests have the experience of a lifetime.”

The hotel features a total of 115 guest rooms and suites, all of which feature ocean views and private plunge pools.

Bottom line

The Resort at Pedregal becoming a Waldorf Astoria is such an exciting addition to the Hilton portfolio. With Hilton basically giving away Diamond status, and with how easy it is to earn Hilton points, I think using Hilton Honors as a primary loyalty program is easier and easier to justify, even for someone looking for aspirational stays.

I see that you cannot book now for next May on. Is that because the prices will go up after that?

We love Pedregal! We have been frequenting for years. No storm damage as mentioned above. No infusion needed. We do not take cruises as also mentioned above. We just love the impeccable service that is offered here! Everything about this place is perfect and we are sad that Hilton will take it over this week. The news broke our heart!

Ahhh Los Cabos. The Bali for bogan Americans... This sounds like a great place to stay if you want to hang out with Americans who "do at least 3 cruises per year" ... No thanks.

This property is flawless, am so excited too!! Anxious to see it again after all the heavy storm damage. It probably needed a huge infusion that only Hilton could bring to fix it back up to its former glory.

It has the most dramatic entry way of any property I have ever seen - a tunnel cut straight thru rock, so cool. The flagship restaurant was cut into the rock, you pick the fish...

Save those free weekend night certs/Aspire resort credits for this, you will not be sorry!

Do you happen to know if this hotel will be bookable with points?
