Review: Turkish Airlines Lounge Bangkok Airport (BKK)

NAME: Turkish Airlines Lounge
Airport: BKK

BEN SAYS: The Turkish Airlines Lounge Bangkok is a pleasant place to relax, and even offers complimentary 15-minute massages. However, it's not my favorite Priority Pass or Star Alliance lounge at the airport.

During my Allegris round the world journey, I had an overnight layover in Bangkok. Fortunately the airport is bustling 24/7, which allowed me to do some lounge hopping. In this post I’ll be reviewing the Turkish Airlines Lounge Bangkok, which is accessible by Star Alliance travelers and Priority Pass members.

I’d say the Turkish Airlines Lounge Bangkok is fine, though I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit it. Turkish Airlines is pretty consistent with its outstation lounges when it comes to design and the level of food and drinks available, and this lounge is no exception. It’s ultimately a perfectly fine place to pass some time, but it pales in comparison to the Turkish Airlines Lounge Istanbul.

In Bangkok, personally I prefer the Coral Finest Business Class Lounge with Priority Pass, and prefer the Thai Airways Business Lounge with a Star Alliance premium ticket. It can always be worth dropping into this lounge for a complimentary 15-minute massage, though.

Turkish Airlines Lounge Bangkok location

The Turkish Airlines Lounge Bangkok is located in International Concourse D, on level three, right near gate D8. Below is a map that gives you a sense of the terminal layout, and relative location of the various lounges.

Bangkok Airport map & lounge signage

Bangkok Airport has a layout whereby this part of the terminal basically consists of two connected “crosses,” so it can potentially be quite a distance between areas of the terminal. Lots of international airlines depart from the area near this lounge, so it should be conveniently located for many.

Turkish Airlines Lounge Bangkok hours

The Turkish Airlines Lounge Bangkok is open 24/7, given that the airport has traffic just about all hours of the day and night.

Turkish Airlines Lounge Bangkok entry requirements

There are a couple of primary ways that you can access the Turkish Airlines Lounge Bangkok. For one, this is a Priority Pass lounge, so those with a membership can enter the lounge. Furthermore, this is also a standard Star Alliance lounge, meaning you can visit this lounge if you’re flying business or first class on any Star Alliance airline, or if you’re a Star Alliance Gold member.

Regardless of whether you access the lounge based on Priority Pass or a Star Alliance ticket, you’re spoiled with choice at Bangkok Airport, so this is one of several options.

Turkish Airlines Lounge Bangkok seating & layout

The Turkish Airlines Lounge Bangkok primarily consists of one huge room, which is broken up into a few different areas with some pillars. When you enter the lounge and turn left, you’ll first see an area with rows of cream colored leather chairs facing one another, along with some black leather chairs along the wall.

Then in the center of the lounge, there’s an area with a bunch of darker dining tables that each have two chairs.

There’s also a bar area with high-top seating, as well as another section in the back right with a few more clusters of seats.

There are a few small rooms off the main room of the lounge. This includes a conference room, a business center with a couple of computers, and a dark room with some chairs and ottomans, intended for relaxing.

That’s the extent of the lounge. As you can tell, it’s perfectly functional, but nothing to get excited about. On the plus side, it was nice and quiet during my overnight visit (though certainly gets busy during peak periods).

One thing worth mentioning is that the terminal in Bangkok gets humid, but this lounge has pretty good air conditioning, so that alone made it worth sitting here.

Turkish Airlines Lounge Bangkok food & drinks

The food and drink selection at the Turkish Airlines Lounge Bangkok isn’t about to win any awards, but was okay for my overnight visit.

In terms of drinks, there was a selection of soft drinks, water, juice, coffee, and tea. Alcoholic drinks were available at the bar, but there wasn’t any obvious signage in terms of the options available.

The food selection wasn’t particularly memorable, though in fairness, it was 3AM, and the lounge was quite empty. Cold options included a salad bar, cereal, finger sandwiches, and sweets.

There were also several hot options, including chicken soup, sausage and ham, cherry tomatoes and other veggies, and fried rice.

Personally I typically stay clear of food in lounges in situations like this (when I think the food has been sitting out for hours and hours).

There was also an option kitchen, but it wasn’t staffed during the hours I was there. I assume the selection gets a bit better when the lounge is busy.

Turkish Airlines Lounge Bangkok bathrooms & showers

The Turkish Airlines Lounge Bangkok bathrooms are inside the entrance to the lounge and to the left, at the very end of the hall. They were spotless when I visited, and the men’s room had a few sinks, stalls, and urinals.

The lounge also has a couple of shower suites, but I didn’t use them during my visit.

Turkish Airlines Lounge Bangkok massages

Perhaps the most exciting thing about the Turkish Airlines Lounge Bangkok is that it offers complimentary 15-minute massages. These are available between 1PM and 11PM, and anyone with access to the lounge can request one of these on a first come, first served basis.

Bottom line

The Turkish Airlines Lounge Bangkok is a perfectly fine but unmemorable Priority Pass and Star Alliance lounge. I’m not saying anyone should avoid this lounge, but it’s probably not worth seeking out the lounge, aside from the complimentary 15-minute massage, if that’s something you’re into.

The airport has both better Star Alliance lounges and better Priority Pass lounges, in my opinion, though they’re not all 24/7.

What do you make of the Turkish Airlines Lounge Bangkok?

Visited this lounge a year ago. BKK to IST. C class. Morning flight.

Its basic. Average. Nice staff. Boring food.

    Don’t expect more.

I think we can all agree that the best Turkish Airlines lounge is the one in Terminal E at MIA. In a nod to that Oasis, they should have a room in the BKK lounge, call it the Miami Room, and people can sit on the floor (because there aren't any chairs left), take really loud facetime calls without headphones, watch soccer matches at full volume, and eat and drink as much as possible. Bangkok is nice, but what it really lacks is a Miami vibe. Come on, TK... Give the people what they want!

Really the best thing about the Turkish Air lounge is that it's at the opposite side of the terminal from the Coral Finest and also offers complimentary 15min massages. The food options look pretty similar during normal evening hours with the addition of some flat breads and one or two other options at what you described as the option kitchen.

Wow BKK doesn't actually have that many gates looking at the terminal map considering how massive the airport seems in real life.

Also, why would Turkish open their own lounge at a major Star Alliance hub when there are already so many other Star Alliance lounges?

the majority of them use bus gates

This lounge is great because it's typically always empty compared to so many other popular options in BKK, so the shower is always reliably available.

Drop in here for a shower, then go elsewhere to eat.

hey, the buffet food can't be worse than what some other airlines serve their pax!

Is there a "post-arrival" business class lounge at BKK? I will arrive at BKK on a TK Business flight. Thank you.

@ Daniel B. -- There's not an arrivals lounge at the airport, as far as I know. Without a departing boarding pass, you wouldn't be able to get into the departures area either.

Did you sleep or just stay at the airport while waiting for the next flight?

    1. Ben Schlappig OMAAT

@ Mark Christopher -- I just stayed at the airport because I had a roughly six hour overnight layover. I was also still largely on US time, given that it was a whirlwind trip, and this was during daytime US hours.

At least this TK lounge doesn't have those stupid 3-hour requirements like in the US.

    1. NS Diamond

It's a thing outside the US too, though it's still a complete nonsense.

That’s often third party lounges and to avoid overcrowding as they are used by multiple carriers. Whereas if it’s the actual airline lounge there’s no restriction for eligible customers. For paid entry it’s restructured to give elites / business class priority when busy.

I visited in the afternoon back in December and the lounge was also nearly empty then. While the food wasn't particularly impressive then either, if your primary goal is a quiet place to work or relax, the lounge can be a good fit. The Oman Air lounge had better food, but was very crowded.

I'm very much looking forward to your Thai first class review.
