Throwaway Ticketing Question

Throwaway Ticketing Question

I’m familiar with the concept of this, but have a question about doing this internationally. My niece will return home from MAN and routes through AMS, then PDX with final destination in SEA. Home for her is PDX, but the ticket was significantly cheaper to SEA.

If I understand things correctly, if she checks her bag and lands in PDX for customs/immigration she will have to collect her bag and recheck it for the continuation to SEA. Any issue if she just leaves the airport and heads home? Just wondering since it’s an international arrival and if that would matter. Similar question if she doesn’t check a bag and just has a carry on. Any issue since it’s an international arrival?

Thanks for your help! She’s not a frequent traveller, so I’m not too worried about repercussions for mileage or anything like that.

Shouldn’t be an issue. All passengers have to pass through customs and immigration at the port of entry so she should be able to grab her checked luggage and leave. Only carry on luggage makes it even easier!

Just remember if there are irregular ops she may be rerouted directly to SEA, luckily it is not that far from PDX

Thanks Brad and Guarav! Was what I was thinking, but wanted to make sure since it was an international arrival. Don’t need to tell her it’s okay and she ends up with the dreaded SSSS next time she flies. LOL! Luckily too she has family in SEA, so if she does get rerouted there it won’t be an issue. Thanks again for the info!
