HELP!

Lucky..I know you are busy..

I read ur blog this past year..and got the right cards to start accruing miles..however, I may have screwed up..

Was saving miles to book a first class trip for my family from Seattle to India – via Alaska/Emirates.

Chase Ultimate Rewards = ~245K
Alaska airlines = ~110K

However, I was under the assumption I could transfer from Korean to Alaska – but I just found out that maybe I cannot! Please help! Any workarounds? please!

You cannot transfer points between airline programs at all. If there is a workaround, it’s probably not transferred at a 1:1 ratio

You could try redeeming Korean miles for flights?

@Vinay Balan to the best of my knowledge you cannot transfer miles between programs. You can use Korean miles to book Alaska awards (see details here http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2014/02/14/how-to-redeem-korean-air-skypass-miles/) and also Emirates/Etihad but you must book round trip. Can you split the family to travel separately?

Depending on how many passengers are traveling, you’re best option is to book Korean Air First Class by transferring your Chase points to a Korean Air account. They’re one of the best airlines when it comes to releasing First Class award space, so it shouldn’t be an issue finding availability for even four passengers on the same flights. Just keep in mind you’re responsible for the taxes/fees on the tickets, including the fuel surcharges.

The likelihood of finding two or more First Class seats with Emirates or British Air isn’t great unless you’re able to book something last minute. Another option is to book something in Business (if available) then upgrade to First Class closer to the departure date. Emirates is one of the airlines that tends to release additional award space closer to the departure dates.
