Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) Will Be Renamed After Donald Trump

126

Several weeks ago, I wrote about how Florida lawmakers proposed renaming an airport after President Trump. Well, this proposal has now passed the Florida Legislature, so it’s very likely to become a reality.

Lawmakers vote to rename airport after President Trump

In November 2025, Republican Florida State Representative Meg Weinberger introduced a proposal to rename Palm Beach International Airport to Donald J. Trump International Airport. As she explained in a statement:

“President Trump is the most consequential president of our lifetime and a resident of Palm Beach County, which makes it only fitting to honor him, like many other presidents before him, by naming our airport Donald J. Trump International.”

A vote took place on this in the Florida Legislature this week, and it passed with a strictly partisan vote. This includes an 81-30 vote in the House, and a 25-11 vote in the Senate. Now Florida Governor Ron DeSantis just has to sign off on this, and then the renaming can happen, as it’s expected to take effect as of July 1, 2026. Around $5.5 million has been allocated for implementing the renaming, including updated signage and branding.

This isn’t Weinberger’s first bill to rename something after Trump. In February 2025, Weinbeger co-sponsored bill HB 987, to rename a four mile stretch of Southern Boulevard in Palm Beach County (near Mar-a-Lago) after Trump.

I do wonder if this airport is “enough” for Trump, or if he’s going to hold out for a bigger airport being named after him (or who knows, I guess there could be multiple airports). For example, Trump also wants Washington Dulles Airport (IAD) to be named after him.

Last week, Trump had filed several applications to the US Parent and Trademark Office, covering at least three variations of names that airports could use, including the name that’s in the bill for Palm Beach International Airport.

Currently, more than 10 commercial airports in the United States are named after former presidents, including New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK), Washington’s Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA), Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), Grand Rapids’ Gerald Ford Airport (GRR), and Little Rock’s Clinton National Airport (LIT), among others.

I’m not a fan of airports being named after politicians

My opinion on this is the same as it has been about every proposal to rename an airport after a politician, whether a Democrat, Republican, or whatever (and if you don’t believe me, see my post about Las Vegas being renamed after Democrat Harry Reid).

I’m just no a fan of airports being named after politicians:

  • Why can’t we just keep airport names simple, and name them after their location, or the cities or regions they serve? There’s no need to complicate things
  • It’s one thing to name an airport after someone a vast majority of people can agree on, but to me it’s a bit different to name an airport after a politician, which is always going to be divisive
  • At some point this renaming stuff just comes down to partisan politicians ruling in favor of one politician over another, and that just seems like a rabbit hole that’s better avoided

But at this point over 10 airports in the United States have been named after presidents, so I guess there’s no reason to stop now…

Palm Beach Airport will be named after Trump

Bottom line

In November 2025, a Florida lawmaker proposed renaming Palm Beach International Airport after Donald Trump. Given that the Florida Legislature is Republican, it’s not surprising that this has just passed, and now they’re just waiting on Governor DeSantis to sign off on this. This is far from the first time that an airport will be named after a president, even if it’s a practice that I find to be rather questionable.

Fascinating naming an airport after a pedo. Residences of that city will celebrate their nonce identification until they wake up and change the name...

Time for Illinois to rename a real international airport after Obama.

The state is unrecognizable from what it used to be and should serve as a stark warning for the rest of us—-toxic culture focused solely on demonizing anyone deemed by hard right influencers/MAGA enablers as “other”. Shortly before I left, my own doctor, now an American citizen but Columbian born, admitted to me that he has told his entire family to always carry their passport for fear of being stopped and detained. Fear rules that place. Awful.

If they can rename LAS after Harry I see no reason why Florida can't participate.

I assume the airport code will change to PDO?

    1. Scooter Guest

IDS would be funnier (if you know how US four letter codes work). You could tell Trumpers it was about making sure people had IDs to vote.

The hubris and the kowtowing cult is pretty wild. Following the precedent this regime has set, once this is over we can reasonably cut off all federal funding to anything that was ever named after the conman-in-chief. Fair's fair!

Washington Dulles is named after John Foster Dulles - a secretary of state. Anyone under 60 has likely never heard of him or know who he is. Plus Dulles is confusing, when first opened people were getting Dulles and Dallas confused when booking tickets over the phone (pre electronic tickets) and actually traveling to the wrong airport. IAD needs a name change. It is not even in Washington - it is in Virginia - actually...

They should rename O’Hare “Obama International”. That would really get under Trump’s skin.

Maybe Classy C*nt Meg Weinberger will propose naming a small landing strip in NW Florida after DeSantis.
Flying into PBI will burn DeSantis skin knowing how Trump has totally shunned him.

  18. FLLFLYER Member

What about naming PBI "Grifter International".

    Appropriate for Palm Beach County

  19. Todd S Guest

If I recall correctly, I believe MIA is will be renamed Ben Schlappig International (after a blogger). Bloggers are next to have airports named after them. I think Gary Leff will be Austin's new airport name. :) Not sure which California airport Matthew Klint will get. He flies out of a number of Southern California airports. He needs to pick one and use it long enough to be named after him.

  20. Jeff Guest

I will never fly to that airport again as long as his name is on it.

    1. Jeff New Member

I hope that the FAA approves this in the next couple of weeks so I can proudly fly into Donald J. Trump International Airport next month when I go to PBI.

    2. Randy Diamond

good - it will be less crowded and better chance for an upgrade.

  21. Bob Guest

So it's going to be called "I'll never be better than Obama airport". How about "ManBaby International" or "Let's work harder to protect pedos"

  22. Bort Guest

I think there is a huge difference between naming an airport after a politician who is still in office and a politician who is retired or dead. The latter can be a sign of respect and appreciation. The former reeks of a cult of personality. Especially when that politician’s name is being put on a lot of things in a short amount of time.

  23. Rich Guest

Well, Rep. Weinberger did get one thing right: Trump is "President Trump is the most consequential president of our lifetime and a resident of Palm Beach County." Demolishing the leadership, trust, global standing, and rule of law that took generations to build is anything but inconsequential.

  24. FlyerDon Guest

Any chance there’s an airport on Epstein Island?

    1. 1990 Guest

STT is closest. It’s really a shame that there was a pedophile island nearby, because that part of the Caribbean is actually lovely. Like, could the rich and powerful please stop abusing others and simply enjoy the beach…

  25. Alex Guest

That idiot will slap his name on the moon, to rename it or even Mars, so Elon can say he flew to Trump! Why can not everybody just use an * instead of using his name. If everyone does that it would avoid hearing about him!

The idiots here are either Florida state legislators or Plam Beach legislators.

The most iconic airport in the US is LAX, and the X is because they needed a third letter for LA. And that airport will never be renamed. Spare me the comments about how much it sucks to travel to or through LAX, it is a pop culture staple and the most competitive airport in America.

    1. VS Guest

Really, that's why they added X - because they needed a third letter? Now I know where the X in DXB came from.

    2. Scooter Guest

Same thing in Dubai yeah - it’s a cool fun fact

    3. Tee Oh Guest

I'm more surprised Dubai didn't just buy DUB from Dublin.

    4. Ryan Gold

Ha! I never knew that either, and I guess never really thought to question why there was an X or what it stood for, just that if possible it was better to fly from SNA and avoid LAX but I guess that makes sense.

What I often don't understand is why so many of the people in the US looks up to Trump as an example. Do you really have such a small talent pool that Trump is the cream of the crop to represent the country? He seems like someone that only terrible human beings can support but I find it hard to think such a large portion of Americans are terrible human beings.

    1. JackK Guest

Many of the votes for Trump are tied to racism, bigotry and homophobia. Not at all of course but he effectively twisted that any person who is not a straight white Christian male is bad. Appalling to me as an American citizen that my Government and its leaders do not hide or condemn racism.

    2. PeteAU Guest

As a fellow non-American I have to agree that it's very puzzling that the United States of America couldn't muster two better presidential candidates than a half-demented sex-pest career grifter, and a fatuous DEI quota appointee who could barely manage to string a coherent sentence together.

I am no fan of Trump but I think a better idea would be to name a terminal concourse or building than the entire airport. I think Tom Bradley works well at LAX because it’s one terminal.

That’s how PHX works. Terminal 3 is named after John McCain, and Terminal 4 after Barry Goldwater.

Unfortunately, that is not how Donald Trump works. He could never be satisfied with just a single terminal named after him. He needs the entire thing (airport, train station, etc) with his name after him.

Remember, he is from Queens, so living with John F Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport right in his backyard, he really needs to have the entire airport named after him. And now, not only will he have an airport...

And now, not only will he have an airport named after him, he will be able to boast that he had an airport named after him before the two men he hates the most (Obama and Biden) got one. (Of course, as perhaps the biggest supporter of Amtrak, Biden is much happier with the Wilmington Train Station named after him, rather than Wilmington Airport.) Also, Trump will also boast about how the airport's new name will be the only one in the U.S. with the word "President" in it.

But the truth is, while Trump will be happy with PBI being renamed after him entirely (they are dropping "Palm Beach" from the new name), and the rumors that he wanted Dulles renamed after him, he truly only wants one airport renamed after him, and that is JFK. Not only because JFK is in Queens, but the airport is one of the largest and most well-known in the world. PBI (which I imagine will have its code changed to DJT) may be in Trump's new backyard, but it is WAY too small for his ego.

Personally, I am hoping that the moment DeSantis signs the bill, the lawsuits blocking the name change will be unleashed and never ending.

Japan, South Korea, Thailand are some examples of airports not being named after someone. Even China.

      Germany as well:

Berlin -- Willy Brandt (SPD, mayor and chancellor)
Bremen -- Hans Koschnik (SPD, mayor)
Cologne -- Konrad Adenauer (CDU, mayor and chancellor)
Hamburg -- Helmut Schmidt (SPD, chancellor)
Munich -- Franz Josef Strauss (CSU, governor of Bavaria)
Stuttgart -- Manfred Rommel (CDU, Mayor)

However, these names are not typically used, and in any case, the names were added only after the death of the person.

Uhh… Thailand? BKK… Suvarṇabhūmi means "land of gold". The name was chosen by King Bhumibol whose name includes Bhūmi.

Only in America and in a state that is a backwater and ecological disaster in the making would a facility be named for a pedophile, a crook, and a criminal. The country is a disgrace for not just tolerating it, but putting him in office not once, but twice. Am an American, was born and raised there, have never, and will never be patriotic. Not grateful now or ever to be a citizen of it.

Well, Trump is doing everything possible to speed up the timeline for when Florida ends up underwater.
