Palm Beach Airport (PBI) Could Be Renamed After Donald Trump

I’d be surprised if this doesn’t pass, quite frankly…

Lawmaker proposes renaming airport after President Trump

Republican Florida State Representative Meg Weinberger has introduced a proposal to rename Palm Beach International Airport to Donald J. Trump International Airport. As she explained in a statement:

“President Trump is the most consequential president of our lifetime and a resident of Palm Beach County, which makes it only fitting to honor him, like many other presidents before him, by naming our airport Donald J. Trump International.”

This wouldn’t be the first that her efforts have caused something to be renamed after Trump. In February 2025, Weinbeger co-sponsored bill HB 987, to rename a four mile stretch of Southern Boulevard in Palm Beach County (near Mar-a-Lago) after Trump. While the bill was signed into law, the actual signage change is still in the works.

With Republicans holding a majority in the Florida Legislature, odds are decent that this proposal will pass. Trump has reportedly been pushing to have an airport named after him, and of course people love to score brownie parts for proposals like this.

I do wonder if this airport is “enough” for Trump, or if he’s going to hold out for a bigger airport being named after him (or who knows, I guess there could be multiple airports). In the past there was talk of Washington’s Dulles Airport (IAD) being named after him, but that didn’t have sufficient support.

Currently, more than 10 commercial airports in the United States are named after former presidents, including New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK), Washington’s Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA), Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), Grand Rapids’ Gerald Ford Airport (GRR), and Little Rock’s Clinton National Airport (LIT), among others.

I’m not a fan of airports being named after politicians

My opinion on this is the same as it has been about every proposal to rename an airport after a politician, whether a Democrat, Republican, or whatever (and if you don’t believe me, see my post about Las Vegas being renamed after Democrat Harry Reid).

I’m just no a fan of airports being named after politicians:

  • Why can’t we just keep airport names simple, and name them after their location, or the cities or regions they serve? There’s no need to complicate things
  • It’s one thing to name an airport after someone a vast majority of people can agree on, but to me it’s a bit different to name an airport after a politician, which is always going to be divisive
  • At some point this renaming stuff just comes down to partisan politicians ruling in favor of one politician over another, and that just seems like a rabbit hole that’s better avoided

But at this point over 10 airports in the United States have been named after presidents, so I guess there’s no reason to stop now…

Palm Beach Airport could be named after Trump

Bottom line

A Florida lawmaker has proposed renaming Palm Beach International Airport after Donald Trump. Given that the Florida Legislature is Republican, this could very well pass. It would be far from the first time that an airport would be named after a president, even if it’s a practice that I find to be rather questionable.

The airport code will go from PBI to POS.

Hopefully his billionaire donors can provide funding to Trumpify the terminal--gold picture frames, gold embellishments everywhere, statuary marble in the restrooms, and a ballroom.

      Like Turkmenistan. Emperor Trump

Trump doesn't deserve an airport renamed after him. He deserves a spaceport built after him.

The 7 runway Mar-A-Lago Interplanetary Space port. Paid for by tariffs.

Traditionally in old school America, at least before the progressive communists wave and by that I mean the woke-ie Obama-ites rather than the new NYC one… we gave names to all sorts of things honoring true American Heroes, not just the promoted faux created by the left.

I think President Trump represents the best of American resistance against the enemies within our borders, and thus is a true American Hero.

The President transcends and unites all classes and creeds of our America rather than finding new and creative ways of dividing us by say 151 different genders, and such as that other lot did.

Time to get on the same page I am on lefties cause you guys are on the wrong side of history if you love your country, your neighbors, your people, and your state as I do.

I don't see anything named after G.I.Joe, a real American hero.

Or captain planet, he's a hero

Airports are usually named after dead presidents. Seems like a good deal to me.

To anyone outraged with naming airports after politicians: The Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu, the Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, the Ted Stevens International Airport in Anchorage, and Reagan National Airport in DC (among others) would all like to have a word with you.

We NEED to name this airport after President Trump. He is the only MAN (remember when we knew the difference between a MAN and a WOMAN) MAKING AMERICA GREAT AGAIN and protecting us from Demoncrats like Madami crushing our freedoms and making us live under shakira law!

    1. Timtamtrak Diamond

Shakira law is something I can get behind. Hips don’t lie, but the establishment does.

I also support shawarma law, samosa law, smoothie law, and especially snickerdoodle law.

Above and beyond the silliness of naming airports after presidents is the silliness of renaming an airport in the first place.

  9. OneAlphaTwo Gold

I like the names of Venice, Florence, Rome and Warsaw Airports. Those are unique.

Feel like the only time it makes sense to name an airport is if there are multiple airports for the city. Ie, New York, Chicago, DC., Houston, Dallas, etc. Personally, I think Pensacola would be a better airport for the President to have named in his honor.

"I think Pensacola would be a better airport for the President to have named in his honor."

      Actually, Moscow would be best.

For what it's worth, both DJT and KDJT are available as IATA/ICAO codes.

definitely gonna be a popcorn thread.

Donny and the GQP seem to mistake the true significance of the word consequential. The driver that ran a red light and killed my friend's mom walking on the crosswalk was the most consequential driver in her life, but it sure didn't do her any good.

    1. we'll never be rid of this @$$hole Guest

the Saudi consulate in Istanbul was also the most consequential government building in Jamal Khashoggi's life

PBI is too small of an airport for this great president. We should name ATL after Donald Trump.

    1. ORD_Is_My_Second_Home Diamond

If someone gave you an enema, all they'd be left with is a bag of skin.

    2. LOA Gold

ATL already has a glorious name:

Hartsfield Latoya Jackson International Space Port and Glittering Nail Emporium

Please don't ruin it with the Trumpturd's name.

    3. TravelinWilly Diamond

"Hartsfield Latoya Jackson International Space Port and Glittering Nail Emporium"

I'm so stealing that, difficult as it will be to remember. But the Latoya Jackson part is already indelibly seared on my brain. Thank you for this.

    4. Timtamtrak Diamond

@LOA For years I thought it was Fried Chicken Emporium. No wonder every time I book a ticket to Atlanta I end up in Nashville! Glittering nails… OF COURSE!

I appreciate Japanese airports even more.

And just like the U.S., the Philippines names every little thing after someone.

  16. Willem Guest

Midway is a better candidate for renaming after the Obamas, O’Hare is a worthy recipient of ORD’s name

    1. ORD_Is_My_Second_Home Diamond

No. I want the big airport renamed just to trigger Mango Mussolini's penis envy. I am well aware of the Obamas' connection to the South Side, being an alum of The University of Chicago. But I want to both honor him and piss off Trump.

“ I’m not a fan of airports being named after politicians”

He’s more than just a “politician “, he’s literally the best President our nation has ever seen.

Whose MAGA butt fumes have you been huffing?

    2. James Guest

@Dave Stafford This seems to be a very subjective statement. Some may even disagree with your view.

  18. ORD_Is_My_Second_Home Diamond

Let this happen. If it does, then the Illinois Legislature should immediately rename O'Hare after Barack Obama. Or do an LIT and rename it after Barry and Michelle. That will explode the heads of all of the MAGAtts.

    1. Dolphin Guest

More likely it would be Midway since O'Hare is already named after, well, O'Hare and everyone calls it that. Doubt any MAGA heads would explode, there are three Trump voters in the whole city of Chicago.

    2. ORD_Is_My_Second_Home Diamond

No. It has to be the big airport, something that makes PBI look like a mini-mall parking lot. You don't understand Trump's ego.

    3. TravelinWilly Diamond

"...something that makes PBI look like a mini-mall parking lot."

Well, in your favor, PBI *is* kind of a mini-mall parking lot already, so there's that. A RWNJ mini-mall, but a mini-mall nevertheless.

  19. Kevin Guest

Has an airport ever been named after a president while they were still in office?

    1. Alert Guest

      Yes . Coolidge airfield .

    2. Kevin Guest

Coolidge Airfield was built in 1941. Calvin Coolidge died in 1933.

  20. Dolphin Guest

For airports named after presidents, you forgot Abraham Lincoln in Springfield Illinois (SPI)!

And Little Rock is LIT. LIR is in Costa Rica :)

    1. Dolphin Guest

Also Dickinson Theodore Roosevelt (DIK) and Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower (ICT)
