Kristi Noem Blasts Democrats In TSA Checkpoint Video Playing Nationwide

101

When you’re waiting in line at Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints, there are typically some TV screens with a video message from a government official. Along those lines, a new video has just been introduced, and it’s probably the most unusual one we’ve seen.

Controversial new video playing at TSA checkpoints

It’s normal for the United States Secretary of Homeland Security to be featured in videos at TSA checkpoints. For example, up until this spring, there was a video reminding people of the REAL ID deadline (and for once, it was actually implemented).

Well, a brand new video has just been rolled out, and it’s not quite as apolitical as the above one. The government has been shut down since the beginning of the month, meaning most federal works aren’t being paid.

At some point, this starts to cause staffing issues in the aviation ecosystem, since many people can’t afford to come to work if they’re not getting a paycheck. So Noem addresses this in a new clip that’s now playing at TSA checkpoints. She explains that many operations are impacted by the government shutdown, and makes sure to place blame on Democrats, twice.

Here’s the content of the video:

“Hi, I’m Kristi Noem, the United States Secretary of Homeland Security. It is TSA’s top priority to make sure that you have the most pleasant and efficient airport experience possible while we keep you safe. However, Democrats in Congress refuse to fund the federal government, and because of this, many of our operations are impacted and most of our TSA employees are working without pay. We will continue to do all that we can to avoid delays that will impact your travel, and our hope is that Democrats will soon recognize the importance of opening the government.”

This is the most partisan video we’ve seen at TSA checkpoints

We don’t need to debate who is responsible for the shutdown (is it the Democrats for not funding the government, or the Republicans for not negotiating?), because that’s beyond the purview of this blog, and no one is going to change anyone else’s minds in the comments section.

However, I think this video is interesting on a few levels. First of all, most of us travel with some frequency, so we’re going to start to see this video, whether we’d like to or not. It’s the most noteworthy video I ever recall seeing at a TSA checkpoint.

The only other thing that I’ll say is this — historically, the TSA has been a pretty non-partisan organization. Of course that’s how it should be, and that’s a good thing. We even saw the TSA Administrator appointed in 2017 (in Trump’s first term) reconfirmed by Biden.

Personally, I think this kind of public blame at TSA checkpoints is a bit much. For the record, I’d be saying exactly the same thing if Biden were president, if the Republicans “shut down” the government, and a similar message were being presented with the opposite narrative.

I just think these TSA checkpoint videos should be limited to providing useful information to travelers about… well, whatever… rather than trying to place political blame on others. But I also understand the era we live in, so it’s hardly the most surprising thing we’ve seen.

Lastly, it’s interesting how the video has no hint of apology. Not even a “sorry for any delays you may experience,” without accepting any blame, or anything.

Bottom line

There’s a new video screening at TSA checkpoints, showing Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem explaining that the government shutdown may impact aviation. While there’s always a video playing at TSA checkpoints, we’ve never seen a video quite like this, so maybe look up while you’re standing in line at security to see it for yourself…

The Trump Administration doesn't believe the law applies to them and the GOP controlled Congress is so cowed they won't even stand up for their own rights as the legislative body of the US. Moreover, we have a Supreme Court complicit with Trump and they refuse to require Trump of follow the Constitution and laws of the US.

  2. Watson Diamond

Lol the party that controls all three branches of government is blaming the minority party. If they hadn't already blown their reconciliation vote on Trump's Small Flaccid Bill they wouldn't be in this mess. Unfortunately your average Fox News viewer will lap this up.

Ugh, how do these brainless hillbillies keep getting appointed to high public office in the United States?

    Elections have consequences.

    1. Jessica Guest

Because most Americans are uneducated hillbillies?

    2. JustinB Diamond

@Jessica elite arrogant elitists such as yourself are exactly why us uneducated hillbillies swept the last election. A bit of humility and an understanding that all people from all walks of life are what make our country tick may be good, perhaps?

Calling brainless people "brainless" makes them elite?

    4. Willieron Guest

Sorry, I find it difficult to find common ground with racist, homophobic, misanthropic corrupt criminals. Calling them brainless is demeaning to brainless people.

Way to use public infrastructure for partisan talking points. But those are the times we live in. You can't fix the problem, so blame others instead. No wonder our country is languishing.

  5. TProphet Guest

What's astonishing to me is that anyone in the TSA is still showing up for work when her boss outright said that federal employees won't be paid for the time they are working for free.

Look at government websites like Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Department of Agriculture (USDA) for even more extreme content. This is the worst of what America has ever stood for.

Spare me, Trump just gave $20 billion to bail out Argentina; I don’t see you whining about that. Part of American power is building goodwill with other people around the world - it’s what we have always done and should continue to do.

@Martin O'Connor, Ok, can I get a link? Anything published by a democratic lawmaker, or video of a democratic lawmaker, calling for this? Otherwise this is just you spouting off. So by legally you are no doubt including those that are awaiting 10 yrs for their erroneous asylum claims as well a parolees or those on TPS…..they are very much eligible for for those health insurance subsidies which is what the Democrats are holding out for.

They are fascists, and perhaps I will be arrested for flipping her the bird, though I am not sure under what law I will be charged. Do you? It maybe feel good, and the others in the TSA line, because we were speaking truth to power. Gabbard was subject to extra scrutiny due to her behaviors

That is all that would be needed. Senate Republicans vote 51-49 or 50-50 with Vice President Vance breaking the tie. Then they could hold an immediate vote to end debate, then another immediate vote to reopen the government.

Alternately, Senate Republicans could schedule 30 hours of debate mandated by the current supermajority rules. Once those 30 hours of debate have expired, then the Senate Republicans could hold an immediate vote with only a simple majority (or the Vice President to break a tie) because the need for debate would have been satisfied.

So, no, let us not debate this. Let us acknowledge that the majority party can very very easily pass this legislation. They will not, because they are already being murdered in polling and are wholly desperate to drag at least a handful of Democrats down with them.

If the video simply apologized for any delay and asked for the traveler's patients during this time, that is fine.

As for democrat or republican blame. If either party had control of all three (Senate, House, and Presidency), the party that did not have any control would do what ever they could to promote what they thought is important.

This is why I prefer to have one party always in control of one of the three, it gives all citizens a voice.

Good question. They don’t have these that I can think of at any of the airports I frequent - MCI (which isn’t TSA anyway), LAX T4/5, Can’t recall seeing them at DFW, BOS, or SEA either. Or maybe I just travel so much I don’t pay any attention.

If forced to pick between the current immature administration pushing propaganda where it doesn’t belong and the previous administration with special TSA lines for “Non-US Citizens without Passports” funneling unknown persons onto planes, it’s easy to select the former. It’s harder to know the latter situation existed because it wasn’t really reported on.

    1. Dan Guest

Can you provide proof of this? In all my years of traveling I never once saw any such TSA lane in any of the 20+ airports I went to.

Gentlemen, please google image search “Non-US Citizens without Passports”

These were up during the Biden years at near-border airports, as seen frequently by myself. The fact that you haven’t seen this before just proves my point. The mainstream media turned their back on this, and Fox News isn’t smart enough and/or doesn’t have the resources to cover everything for one side.

    10. Dan77W Guest

Yes but this was in the TSA security line, nothing to do with entering the country. Everything to do with providing a valid ID which a Permanent Resident Card sufficed (back before Real ID during the Biden era) which incidentally a green card holder is required to have with them AT ALL TIMES. Perhaps if you emptied your biases you might be able to comprehend your explanation is a red herring and these lines had nothing to do with LPRs.

    11. putout Guest

Ah that explains it. If it's for TSA, there's an even longer list of non-passport IDs that even non-citizens and non-LPRs can use to travel domestically. In fact, it just so happens that I'm currently flying using such a document (an Employment Authorization Doc) because my green card is on the way and that is sufficient evidence of my legal status without needing to carry a passport. It even counts as a REAL ID nowadays.

Yes empty your biases, because there are plenty use cases of legal immigrants falling into the category of the sign.

    12. gawkyninja Guest

For traveling domestically to go through TSA, someone who's legal can still use a document listed on the CBP website that's not a passport. They may not be citizens but doesn't mean they are undocumented. In fact you just answered your own question. Since a green card holder has to have the card with them at all times, if they don't have their passport with them won't they have to go through this exact line to fly and use their green card as ID?

    13. James Guest

Wasn’t the non-US citizens without passports line just for people who were going through the citizenship or green card process and had a US travel document that allowed them to travel prior to them getting an actual passport?

    14. putout Guest

@James: Yes exactly. Funnily enough I'm in this exact situation right now and I guess I would have went in that line! And I'm very much a legal alien in the US (from the UK).

    15. putout Guest

In fact for traveling domestically, there's a huge list of non-passport docs one can use to go through the TSA that non-citizens are perfectly eligible to have and use: https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/identification

Yes. I have a friend who processed these.

    17. Sel, D. Guest

Facts? Once again, Google is free. These lines were only during the Biden administration with a massive influx of people, using the CBP One app as “identification” to get through TSA. The practice is now banned. It was unique to his administration and not business as usual, had nothing to do with green cards, etc.

They can open the government any time they want. They don’t want to seat the 218th vote to release the Epstein files.

If you’re ok with this video, you do not stand for law and order, regardless of your politics.

Unfortunately, it has become clear that illegal activities are not of particular concern to most government officials.

What's the point of a law if there are no repercussions if one violates the law? The guy in the White House had a campaign event at the White House his last term, and nothing. Emoluments clauses get casually broken. Perfect example would be the Qatar 748. Nothing.

Who cares anymore! I wouldn't waste my time and the media shouldn't as well.

By your definition "is it the Democrats for not funding the government, or the Republicans for not negotiating".

If you are not funding it you are shutting it down.

The Hatch Act is a law. This is illegal. Federal officials cannot conduct policy in their official position using government property or channels.
