Brussels Airlines has just unveiled its newest special aircraft, featuring an augmented reality livery. Yowzers!

Brussels Airlines’ Tomorrowland special livery plane

Since 2012, Brussels Airlines has partnered with Tomorrowland, an annual electronic dance music festival in Belgium. The airline has operated special flights for this event, and has just unveiled its newest Tomorrowland themed aircraft.

The Airbus A320neo with the registration code OO-SBB (delivered to the airline in December 2023) has been painted in a Tomorrowland livery. The aircraft is named “Amare,” and is special inside and out.

If you’re like me and assume “Amare” just means “love” in Italian, there’s more to the story for Tomorrowland fans. I’m not young enough (or maybe just not high enough?) to claim to make sense of this, as it involves magic birds, magic parallel spectrums, and energy lines and particles. So let me just copy and paste:

Amare is a Tomorrowland icon symbolizing bringing people together and is actually synonymous with Unity. In the Tomorrowland Universe, the bird is the only one able to travel through different Tomorrowland worlds via Paperworld (the magical parallel spectrum that connects the different worlds).

So from this line of thought, Amare was visualized as if the magical bird was traveling through the “spectrum of space” by having him fade out towards the back. This also conveys a stronger sense of motion and makes the aircraft even more dynamic and modern. This also emphasizes the very iconic head of Amare that is now known by many.

Furthermore, the new visualization also exudes a tremendous power in magic through energy lines and particles that are in the direction of motion, this to further emphasize that Amare is a magical being that is constantly in motion with the purpose of bringing people together.

On the outside, the jet has a special livery that’s sure to turn heads at airports. Not only does the livery look cool to the naked eye, but it even has augmented reality, a world-first. The bird in the livery comes to life when scanned through specific social media channels, such as Instagram or TikTok.

The entire livery design process took around 15 months, given the number of details, from the feathers of the bird, to the sparkles of the fireworks transitioning into Brussels Airlines’ logo.

The interior of the jet also has some special features. In addition to all kinds of Tomorrowland branding, the plane has an enhanced sound system and mood lighting, which you won’t find on any other Brussels Airlines aircraft.

While this jet will of course get the most attention when Tomorrowland takes place over the summer, in the meantime the aircraft will be cycled through Brussels Airlines’ system like any other aircraft. It’s entering service as of today (April 26, 2024), with the first flight being between Brussels (BRU) and Tenerife (TFS). You can track the jet here by its registration code.

This takes Tomorrowland flights to the next level

Brussels Airlines has been offering special Tomorrowland flights for over a decade, but this new livery is certainly the biggest investment we’ve seen in these flights. During the Tomorrowland festival, Brussels Airlines sells special flights with onboard parties.

For example, below is what one of the special flights looked like in 2012, the first year this was offered.

Back in 2014, I actually took one of these Brussels Airlines Tomorrowland party flights between Frankfurt and Brussels (I was invited by the airline, and couldn’t turn down the opportunity). While so not my vibe, OMG, it was quite a memorable experience.

In case anyone is curious, don’t worry, these flights were specifically designed for people booking Tomorrowland packages, so no one will randomly end up on flights with parties like these.

Bottom line

Brussels Airlines is taking its Tomorrowland collaboration to the next level, with the introduction of a special new livery Airbus A320neo. Whether you’re a music festival fan or not, there’s no denying that this is one of the coolest special liveries out there. So if you happen to see this plane at an airport, now you know the backstory.

What do you make of Brussels Airlines’ new Tomorrowland Airbus A320neo?
