Once you’ve signed up for a program, I like to use AwardWallet to track my balances and keep points from expiring – it’s a free service (though you can also pay for more features), and keeps track of all your account numbers and passwords, which makes this all much more painless.

  1. Thanks for your time in making these lists. Do you know of a list of the credit cards most useful in following this hobby? Great presentations in DFW.

  2. Hi,

Out of the 3 major U.S. Airline locality programs (AA Advantage, Delta Sky Miles and United Mileage Plus) what would you say is the best one to qualify for? Which is the easiest to gain miles? Which provides the best elite status? And want one is the best with partner airlines and alliances? Thank You for taking the time to read my question. I really enjoy reading you blog.

    Thank You,

  3. @ Ted — As it stands now, I’d say American AAdvantage is the best in terms of value of miles and elite benefits. Of course that could always change, but as of now that’s my firm opinion.

  4. Scandinavian Airlines Eurobonus and Finnairs Finnair Plus are missing among the Airlines Loyalty Programs.

  5. Hello, I just watched an interview you gave on ABC. You are amazing! I am particularly in awe of the fact that you joined AARP. It is really all about perspective, and you seem to have a unique perspective that has enabled you to see the world. Thanks for this great website and for sharing what you are doing and how you are making seeing the world a reality. Thank you so much!

  6. I recently booked my first First Class award on American for travel in May 2016. However, a couple of weeks after booking, the transatlantic leg JFK to LHR went missing on my itinerary. I tried contacting American, to no avail. They told me my itinerary is complete, even though I can’t see it online. Should I be worried? It’s been over a month since the flight dissappeared.

  7. Blown Away,
Hi Lucky, Have enjoyed your blog and seeing your segments on TV. It’s been fun reading about your adventures with award status etc and maximizing points. It’s mostly been voyeristic for me as I haven’t had status since the 90s on Delta.
Out of the blue last week I got an email from AA offering me Platinum status free from that day until the end of the year. I couldn’t believe it. I only have about 17k miles flown this year. The lucky thing is I had a few RT cross country tix I bought for 148.00 each which will get me the 12k they said I needed to fly by end of year to keep Platinum until Feb 2017. They also gave me 20 500 mile upgrade coupons. I’m blown away. Have you ever heard of such a thing?? I feel like i won the lottery. Basically I’m going to be getting Platinum status for Gold effort.

  8. Hi Lucky,

Great site, and thanks for all the information you provide! I live in France and travel a lot throughout EMEA and only occasionally get to the U.S., and would love to find the credit card promotions and other great deals etc. available to European residents. I appreciate that you are aiming at the U.S. market but if at some stage you could extend to deals open to those on this side of the pond, you’d probably considerably boost your following.

    Thanks again,

  9. Just saw your site on”Right Now “. I love to travel and will memorize your suggestions. Thank you!

  10. Hi Lucky, may be you can add Life miles program from Avianca at the airlines list.
    Thanks for your tips !!!

  11. Hi Lucky! great site! I just gasped when I found it – unbelievably smart thinking and makes me really laugh at myself: I am a travelling artist frequently on board but I HAVEN’T SCIENCED OUT THE S*** of how to profit from that! believe it or not, I have a bf on another continent and we haven’t seen for more than 2 years now simply because I couldn’t afford flights or gather loyality points to win a journey! Now it’s my time to learn….Thanks a bunch Lucky <3

  12. Do you have detailed benefits list of Hotel Dining Privilege Membership in APAC?
    Club Marriott – Marriott
    Star Privilege – Starwood
    Accor Plus – Accor
    IHG Dining – IHG

Thanks in advance Lucky I will wait for your kind reply.

  13. I like the United pay for economy and then use miles and $$ to upgrade to business class and the fact that when you find them they are automatic. Do other programs have this…

  14. Do you just not like FFP of
    -Aeromexico (SkyTeam
    -TAM (OW)
    -SAS Eurobonus (*A)
    -TAP Portugal (*A)
    -Aeroflot (SkyTeam)
    -Turkish Miles & Smiles (*A)
    -Japan Airlines (OW)
-Hainan Fortune Wings (Partners with Etihad, Alaska & AirBerlin

  15. Hi you missed off Agean Miles & Bonus scheme which is a SA member – but you only need to fly 24000 tier miles to get gold or 12000 and 4 Agean or Olympic flights. Only problem is they are a bit picky on flights with other airlines that get tier miles so i’m going to start using another card once I requalify! You get 4 business class upgrade vouchers a year plus a bunch of other stuff that makes sense only if you are Greek. I have not tried redeeming points with them yet – but I mainly use it for the longe etc benefits

  16. Hi Lucky,

Is there any particular reason that you haven’t included Air New Zealand Airpoints Loyalty scheme on your list?

    Cool website and great information.

  17. Have you ever heard a frequent and loyal traveler for a particular airline is banned for flaying with them due to making excessive complain for demanding better and improvise services from that particular airline?.
On what ground that the airline is allow to ban that particular passenger to fly with them if not due to security and safety reason?
And what is the passenger right to deny the banning to fly with that particular airline?
    Please advise.

  18. Dear One Mile @ a Time,

On Loyalty Programs And Links you have info about Air Berlin.
Please put in some info that the airline is now under Chapter 11 and you can not une your point for anything and you dont earn any points 🙁

  19. Now that Delta is going to require $250K card spend, can i get status qualified (matching) on American Airlines?
If so, do you have a link or phone number to connect with?

  20. AirBerlin TopBonus (out of business), Virgin America (Alaska), Hyatt (now World of Hyatt).

  21. I have only used Delta to today and have earn some 500k+ miles (still unused). Their miles do not expire but should be best to use other airlines?
Have earned my status with combination of CC and flights. I will not be flying as often and concern my status next year will be limited.

  22. Hey there,

I already had the Chase Preferred and called them to apply for the Chase Reserve. They transferred it over without credit inquiry.

  23. I am trying to do some research on hotel loyalty programs. Out of the 110 million Marriott loyalty members worldwide, what % do you think are American ? Same for the roughly 74m Hilton members.

    Thanks Eric
