Link: Apply now for the World of Hyatt Business Card
The World of Hyatt Business Card (review) is Hyatt’s co-branded business credit card, issued by Chase. The card offers a generous welcome bonus, and there are also several reasons to hold onto the card (note that you’re eligible for the card even if you have the personal version).
The product has a $199 annual fee, though there are perks that help offset that annual fee, like up to $100 in Hyatt hotel credits annually. In this post, I want to go over one of the incentives for spending money on the card, which is that you can get up to a 10% rebate on award redemptions. This could impact the overall value proposition of the card, so let me explain.
In this post:
Details of the Hyatt Business Card 10% award discount
The World of Hyatt Business Card offers a 10% redemption bonus. If you spend $50,000 or more on the card in a calendar year, you can get 10% of your redeemed points back for the rest of the year, on up to 200,000 points redeemed. As you’d expect, there are some terms to be aware of:
- In order to unlock this benefit, you need to spend $50,000 or more on the card within a calendar year (between January 1 and December 31); spending from both the primary card member and authorized users qualifies
- You can then receive 10% bonus points back on the points you redeem in that same calendar year after reaching the spending requirement, for up to 200,000 points redeemed (meaning you can get up to 20,000 points back annually)
- Most types of redemptions qualify for this, including booking free night awards, Points + Cash stays, room upgrades, dining and spa services, etc.; points redeemed for Avis car rental certificates or points transfered to airline partners are not eligible
- Points are only considered redeemed on the day of checkout of a relevant service or experience; in other words, you need to complete all stays the same calendar year, to qualify
- There’s nothing specific you need to do to trigger the 10% rebate, aside from having an open World of Hyatt Business Card with your World of Hyatt number
- It can take six to eight weeks after points redemptions are completed for the bonus points to post to your account
How to value the Hyatt award redemption bonus
Quite honestly, I feel like the 10% award redemption bonus on the World of Hyatt Business Card could be a bit more generous, as it’s currently very limiting. It’s based not only on your spending within a calendar year, but then you also have to redeem points and complete stays within that same calendar year in order to qualify.
For the average cardmember, this isn’t a perk that I’d significantly consider when deciding on the overall value proposition of the card. However, the way I view it, there is a niche situation where this could be pretty valuable.
Keep in mind that the World of Hyatt Business Card is the best card for spending to earn Hyatt elite nights. You earn five elite nights for every $10,000 spent in a calendar year.
So if you’re someone who does largely qualify for World of Hyatt Globalist status through credit card spending, there’s something to be said for spending $50,000 on the card as early in the year as possible, and then taking advantage of the award rebate throughout the year.
Admittedly not everyone will value this similarly, as it all depends on how many points you’d otherwise redeem in the remainder of the year. However, if you’re a big credit card spender and also redeem lots of World of Hyatt points, then getting up to 20,000 points back per year on this card could add up, and could make a difference in terms of the overall value proposition.
Bottom line
The World of Hyatt Business Card is Hyatt’s only business card. The card offers some unique perks you won’t find on the personal version of the card, and among those is a 10% award redemption bonus.
Members can unlock this perk if they spend at least $50,000 on the card in a calendar year, and then they can receive a 10% redemption discount for points redeemed that same calendar year, for a total of up to 20,000 points back.
I don’t consider this to be the most exciting perk on earth. However, if you spend a lot on the card to earn elite nights, then there’s something to be said for getting that spending done as early in the year as possible, so that you have time to maximize the 10% redemption bonus.
What do you make of the Hyatt Business Card 10% award redemption bonus?
Does the 10% bonus apply on award bookings made from my account for use by someone else?
Do you know when the category bonus hits? I spent a ton on shipping to get to globalist but haven't seen the points hit yet.
